Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

Hey guys here is my BB team below.

    Foster Ryan
    Duffy, Taa, Dunk, Valery, Dunk
    Mane, Son, Kdb, JWP, Eriksen
    Aguero, Jimi, Vardy

Is this move worth a -8? Vardy, eriksen and dunk to llorente, sterling and vertonghen? Now that city are knocked out, I feel as though tripling up on their attack is quite important? Also eriksen might rest for the second game this week?

Coasting against inferior league opponents has had a competitive effect on their ucl participation. So let's hope that Spurs round III and Utd are more than challenging upcoming fixtures regardless of the fact that they've only the title to focus on. Losing is as much a habit as winning, ask Brighton and a more relevant example in PSG in their current endeabours to wrap up their league.

Very close call. But if I had to pick one I'd go for Son as Spurs fixtures are better and he's slightly cheaper. I also prefer the explosive goal potential Son brings, whereas with KDB you're more or less relying on assists.

      Got bottomed!

      A) Keep Murray and save FT
      B) Murray to a 5.5 forward (already got 3 Spurs, so Ings maybe?)
      C) Eriksen/Murray to Mane/Llorente -4

Was planning to sell Sterling to Mane in 36 but now that City have gone out the CL, I want to keep him and sell Eriksen instead. But it leaves me only 5.5 for a Murray replacement.

If you have Son, I would do C although I'm not keen on Llorente, but I guess there not much else on offer at that price point so probably worth the punt.

You definitely should keep Sterling for the rest of the season.

        Where's the C option? ...
I'm in a similar boat, however waiting for the pressers to decide between TAA (Gomez may deputise soon) and Firmino.

Really struggling to save the FT and not get Sterling in for a hit... anyone else?

      Lloris Foster
      Robertson Laporte Duffy Doherty Bednarek
      Mane Son Eriksen Pogba Højbjerg
      Aguero Vardy Jiménez

2FT, 0.2 ITB. BB next week and TC intact 🙂

        TC this week?
Sterling is on such form though! I might do another -4 and take out Hazard. What would you do to get him in though? Højbjerg+Vardy+who? I suppose it would be either Pogba or Eriksen both DGW players. Tough call mate.

Mendy is good, and he's been out injured so rested and he's a favourite, so yes could play both games.

Am I the only one that thinks that removing a DGW Brighton player for a hit might be an error? Horrible results and stats but a -4 for a defender normally a bad % move

I'm also a bit sceptical, but with away fixtures against Wolves and Spurs, (who both could easily put a few past them) I fear that minus points are coming again. So I dont think you're guaranteed to get at least 4 points from Duffy / Dunk / Ryan, but more so a 1 pointer in each game.

But with Watfords fixtures for example, it's hardly likely that Huddersfield or Southampton are going to score tons of goals so the minus points are not really a concern. So essentially I see Watford defenders having a minimum of 3/4 points for appearances plus a good chance of a clean sheet.

Wouldn't say it's an error. Speculate to accumulate. Recent form portents to all three of the high profile Brighton defensive picks bottoming in gw35. Why not take hits for defenders from other teams with more favourable fixtures this week and the remainder of the season? My intention is too replace one of the three (Dunk) and keep the remaining Brighton player(s) as bench fodder post gw35. Crucially for me these assets do not deserve any loyalty based on their gw34 performance.
