Captains

Captain Sensible – No leading option for Double Gameweek 35

It looks like Fantasy Premier League managers will have the opportunity to use a differential captain for green arrows in Double Gameweek 35.

Just as was the case in the previous two Gameweeks, there is no one standout candidate for this round of fixtures, which significantly reduces the risk of going against the grain.

In fact, such is the nature of the schedule over the next few days that even a handful of single Gameweek options can make a strong case for the armband.

As usual, we’re here to analyse each player to help you find the best captain…

As this article uses Opta data, the main bulk is only accessible to Fantasy Football Scout members.

Captain Poll

Once again, there is no clear and obvious favourite in the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. Currently in the lead is Wolves striker Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) but he has just 26.35% of the vote at the time of writing. He is certainly not a bad choice with five goal involvements in as many Premier League outings. Double Gameweek 35 has probably been the kindest on Wolves, who have two favourable fixtures coming up. At first, they host Brighton, who seem to have sleepwalked into the thick of the relegation battle, before Arsenal come to Molineux. The Gunners have just one clean sheet on the road this season, while Wolves, and Jiménez in particular, tend to do better against the bigger clubs.

Soaring into second place after an impressive display in the Champions League midweek is Raheem Sterling (£11.5m). He has five goals in his last four league matches and also has two fixtures in Double Gameweek 35. They pit Manchester City against Spurs (home) and Manchester United (away).

Such is the support for the defending champions despite difficult fixtures, that Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) is currently third in the captain poll. His one goal since Gameweek 28 is not of huge concern to the voters as he has 14.87% backing at the time of writing.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) heads up a very tightly-packed contest to be the best of the rest for Double Gameweek 35. His support of 5.95% is only just a little more than Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) on 5.84%. While the Spurs man has two fixtures, against Manchester City (away) and Brighton (home), this is where we see how many managers are concentrating on single Gameweek players.

Salah and his Liverpool colleagues travel to Cardiff, who have conceded at least two goals in every match played against top-six sides this season. The Bluebirds shipped four when they went to Anfield in Gameweek 10, with Salah producing a goal and two assists. Furthermore, the Egyptian looks like he could be back to his best after his spectacular strike against Chelsea on Sunday ensured he had goals in back-to-back league games since Gameweek 23. Sadio Mané (£10.1m) is also in the top 10 with 3.55% support.

Arsenal’s Double Gameweek fixtures aren’t too bad as they face Crystal Palace (home) and Wolves (away). However, uncertainty over Unai Emery’s team selection is probably why none of their options backed by more than 4.41% in the captain poll. That honour falls to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m), who has a backed by just a few more than colleague Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) on 2.77%.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), Eden Hazard (£11.0m), Andre Gray (£5.9m), Gerard Deulofeu (£5.6m), Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) and Lucas Moura (£6.8m) are the only other options on 1% or more.

Having a punt, Deu/Perreyra are doubts while Deeney is out. I guess he starts at least the Hudds game doesn't he?

He's been very average lately and not because it is HUD that he'll surely score. Can see the MID outscore him.

    Robbo - TAA - Kola - Jonny - Bednarek
    Haz - Mane - Mili - Eriksen - Lucas
    Auba - Jimenez - Deeney
Already took a -4 to get in Deeney, is it worth it to do:

    Ryan Bednarek Duffy Firmino

    0.6 ITB, 1 FT.

Hmm how to get Raz. Only really getting him as main ML rival will captain him and I have decent lead.

I have Salah which causes cash flow problem but don’t want to lose him.

Only other option I can see is transfer out Pogba but he has DGW and my ML rival has him also. Maybe just bring in Kun (and captain) for vardy and hope Raz doesn’t haul?

Need some opinions, guys. I lead my ML by a mere 8 points, after me an my rival put out almost the exact same teams after last week’s WC. Now I see he’s on a -8, with 4M ITB. Have no idea what he has done.

Anyway, my triple Brighton defense punt is stinking up my BB team, but I also need to get rid of Siggy. Team is as follows:

    Lloris, Ryan
    TAA, Doherty, Valery, Dunk, Duffy
    Son, Eriksen, Salah, JWP, Siggy
    Aguero, Jiménez, Rashford

    A) Siggy and Dunk —> Jota and Christensen. Money ITB to do Eriksen —> Mané next week.
    B) Siggy and Eriksen —> Sterling and Hughes. Live with triple Brighton defense.
    C) Siggy and Eriksen—> KdB and Jota. Money ITB to do Kevin —> Mané next week.

Depending on your 5th mid I wouldn’t want to rely on Gray rest of the season

    Can’t decide when to Tc/BB

Which set of players gives more points in your opinion?

    A: 15 matches in total
BB35: Ryan Duffy Ings Valery + Kun (c)
    TC36 Salah (-4) or TC37 Kun

    B: 12 matches in total
    gw35: Kun (TC)
gw36: Ryan Duffy Murray Valery + Mane (c)

BB in gw35 gives 3 extra matches but also means I take a hit to get Salah if I wanna Tc him. I think both options make sense
