Good news for Salah’s Fantasy owners ahead of Gameweek 36

Fantasy managers were offered reassuring comments by Jurgen Klopp in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Mohamed Salah‘s midweek trip to New York and Liverpool’s forthcoming UEFA Champions League double-header against Barcelona are nagging doubts ahead of Liverpool’s appealing Gameweek 36 fixture against Huddersfield Town but Klopp was quick to pour scorn on any suggestion that he would have one eye on next week’s trip to the Nou Camp.

Klopp said:

I will not push that wrong mindset with a fresh line-up or whatever, no chance for that. We had enough time to recover from the last game, we have enough time to recover for the next game. Barcelona has nothing to do with the game on Friday.

Asked if Salah’s brief jolly to America would be an issue ahead of Friday’s match at Anfield, Klopp said:

Travelling these days is no problem any more. It would be more of a problem if his car was broken and he had to walk from here! That’s pretty comfortable.

Of course, he can miss one session [on Wednesday], that’s what he did. Today he will be in training, everything will be fine again. He’s back and everything will be fine.

The Liverpool boss meanwhile provided updates on Adam Lallana (unspecified), Fabinho (head) and Dejan Lovren (illness), saying:

All a bit questionable, we don’t know exactly at the moment. We will have to see today. Dejan trained yesterday so that’s OK, probably. The others we will have to see.

The man in the away dugout at Anfield on Friday, Jan Siewert, also held his press conference today.

Siewert confirmed that Ben Hamer (knock) and Laurent Depoitre (foot) won’t feature but Adama Diakhaby (hamstring) has had two weeks of training and could come back into contention.

Elsewhere, Richarlison (rib) is a “major doubt” for Everton’s match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Rounding up Everton’s injury situation on Thursday, Marco Silva said:

Lucas [Digne] is OK.

Richarlison we have big doubts about. He has tried yesterday to work with us, he felt it again. Let’s see how he will react tomorrow, today he tried again. He will be a big doubt for us, a major doubt for us.

Let’s see how Theo [Walcott] will be tomorrow because he was sick this morning.

[Yerry] Mina started [training] with the team also, beginning of the week. He is doing well and preparing well himself.

Davy Propper (hamstring) will miss Brighton’s home match against Newcastle United on Saturday but Anthony Knockaert is available after a three-match ban.

Ralph Hasenhuttl had much to clarify in his own pre-match press conference.

The Southampton boss said of his injured contingent:

Jannik [Vestergaard] not [fit], that’s for sure. Ryan Bertrand has got a hit on his ankle and is maybe also a question. Matt Targett is back in team training. Stuey Armstrong has a little problem with his hamstring.

Shane [Long] is fit, I think. He trained today, had a little problem at the end of the game against Watford, so it looks good that he can play at the weekend.

Fulham manager Scott Parker will welcome Tom Cairney (personal reasons) and perhaps Alfie Mawson (knee) back to the first-team fold this weekend.

Parker said on Thursday:

Tom Cairney will come back now that his girlfriend has given birth. There’s a slight doubt over André Schürrle due to his wife having a baby as well, but [Alfie] Mawson is back in contention. He’s been out for some time so it’s pleasing to have him back.

He came in over the summer as a big addition to the squad and has struggled a little bit with injuries but he’s been back now for the last few weeks, played a couple of under-23 games, so we’re looking forward to getting him involved, hopefully at the weekend.

The 14 remaining Premier League managers will hold their press conferences on Friday so we will bring you up to speed on any injury updates in our regular article and video round-up tomorrow.

Would you sell Vardy for Firmino? I'm going to do it next week anyway but Vardy has form. Tough decision

Something that is barely being talked about to maybe consider:

A high % of people will be TCing Mane/Salah this week but a VERY HIGH % of people will be Cing Mane/Salah which slightly degrades the impact of the TC.

Example: My rival, whom I'm chasing, and I both own Salah, he'll defo C Salah as he used his TC. It's in my interests to save my TC and simply C Salah as well and TC Sterling, who he doesn't own, in 37/38 in hopes of making up ground.

When catching your rival is more important for you than your overall rank, then you can think that way. Otherwise not.

      Not quite true

If your aim is purely maximising points then you TC when you think a player scores most points, what others do doesn’t matter.

However, you are right that if you are chasing it’s your best chance of making up a big points gap by TCing a player your rival doesn’t own.

      1. L S P
        • 8 Years

well, then a lot of people probably made a mistake not using their TC earlier in the season in that case. Most people, myself included, saved the TC for a key DGW to, as you say, maximize points. Options in the DGWs were not great and now we're left with fewer options and A LOT of action is going to be on LIV options this week. And for good enough reasons. I just don't think you're maximizing impact with the TC on LIV this week with so many Cing.

But again, everybody has their own situation to deal with.

Depends what you mean by impact. All I care about is OR so if a Liverpool mid this week will get a higher score than anyone else in 37/38 I’ll use it this week.

I get what you are saying - you use it on a low % owned player you give yourself more chance of a big rank boost but if you follow that logic, why don’t you always captain low ownership players each week to maximise the impact of the captaincy? See?

because it IS situational and based on the info you have in front of you. Also I'm not advocating Cing lower ownership players every week. or even TCing a low ownership player - so you might not be getting what I'm saying.

I think OR gains/losses on a LIV TC will be minimal in and of themselves this week. But we'll see.

            4 years, 11 months ago

This is such complete nonsense. You are basically saying the way to play it is high risk - why not go and triple captain Foster this week then because nobody will captain him - the reason is because that’s not a good option

that's not what i'm saying at all.

I have been a keyboard warrior here. Sorry. You have a point in what you are saying - you can’t make big gains by largely following the masses but the flip side of course is that a good option is a good option and that’s probably where the chip will yield the most points for you (but maybe not the biggest points difference between you and others)

            in terms of usage, yes

feels like the expected weeks to use chips have largely been disappointing this year so maybe shake things up. or not. i don't care.

        4. AndyCook
            4 years, 11 months ago

This logic is rubbish. Next week if you didn’t triple captain Sterling you would captain him, your rival could still captain him and it’s the same again. Any good triple captain option will be highly captained. Take the highest number of extra points and have done with.

what if my rival doesn't own him? ever think about that?

                  4 years, 11 months ago

If you want to block a rival or gain on a rival in isolation then it works for you but to suggest it is a bad move in general is a stretch. Apologises if I came on a bit strong, might be talking at crosses purposes. I agree totally that triple captain gets overhyped because often that player is captained significantly. I guess where it matters this week is if one of Mane or Salah massively outscores the other?

He doesn't like playing him because he is horribly out of form and has been for a few months. An error from de gea doesn't change that.

No clue what to do jere.. the obvious move would be KDB> Mane, but need to go something different.. Salah /Sterling means a -4

Which is the better option for a -4 hit?
            A) KDB + Eriksen > Sterling + Bilva
            B) KDB + Trippier > Sterling + 4.5 def probably AWB
            C) Neither and don't go for Sterling

Plan to close out season. Currently lead ML by 64 points. Seem reasonable? Subject to change, of course.

gw36: Doh > TAA with Mané as TC (final chip)
            gw37: Foster > Gunn
gw38: Wilson > Zaha -- this one definitely up in the air

            Foster, Ryan
            Robbo, Laporte, Doherty, Duffy, Valery
            Sterling, Mane, Son, Jota, JWP
            Aguero, Jiménez, Wilson

Interested to hear thoughts on what I should do with this team. Currently in top 1k so looking to consolidate rank, still have TC. 1 FT and 0.2 itb.

            Ryan Foster
            Robertson Laporte Doherty Duffy Valery
            Mane Sterling Son Eriksen Hojberg
            Aguero Jimenez Gray

            Thanks!
