Liverpool options dominate Gameweek 36 captaincy in spite of Salah’s USA trip

Liverpool players are going to be the most popular in the Gameweek 36 captain poll.

After witnessing Manchester City reclaim the Premier League top spot outright on Wednesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s men will almost certainly be at their best when Huddersfield come to Anfield on Friday night.

However, selecting the right Liverpool player may take some work ahead of the Gameweek 36 deadline.

Sadio Mané (£10.0m) has already taken an early lead in our latest captain poll, which you can vote in below or on the sidebar of our website.

The Senegalese international has 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League home matches, making him the most reliable in terms of form in front of his own fans.

However, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) may give Mané a run for his money given his impressive performance in his last Anfield match, against Chelsea in Gameweek 34.

The Egyptian’s spectacular strike in that game marked the first time since Gameweek 23 that he had scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

Salah also picked up an assist for James Milner‘s (£5.6m) penalty against Cardiff and has won more spot kicks in the league for Liverpool than any of his colleagues this season.

There may be some reticence from his owners to captain him though, after he spent some time in New York this week.

Salah was recently named one of the world’s most influential people by Time Magazine and was in the USA to attend the prestigious Time 100 Gala.

He has reportedly returned to the UK now but his travels (to a different time zone) could affect how much faith Fantasy managers are willing to place in him for Gameweek 36.

There are a number of options worth considering in Liverpool’s defence too.

Andrew Robertson (£6.8m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.6m) could all benefit from the fact that Huddersfield remain the division’s lowest scorers and Liverpool have more clean sheets than any other side.

While Barcelona await Liverpool next week, the fact that they are playing Huddersfield on Friday night should ease concern over rotation.

Outside of the Reds, it is hard to truly find much inspiration for a differential captain, such is the quality of Liverpool’s fixture.

Manchester City are the only team whose form is comparable as they travel to Burnley but backing Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) or Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) may still be seen as a risk.

The two players combine for just five attacking returns in their last four away matches, each player blanking twice in that run.

That said, Burnley look safe from the drop this season and have little to play for, so there’s every reason that Manchester City could record a heavy win, especially with no Champions League to consider any more.

Spurs, on the other hand, do have to concern themselves with European competition still, which could affect how they line-up against West Ham on Saturday lunch-time.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) is banned from the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Ajax so he should feature, and is probably the most likely to succeed out of his colleagues.

West Ham have one of the worst defences in the league over the last six Gameweeks, so there should be plenty of chances for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) has been a key player for them in that time but he could be finally handed a rest ahead of midweek after starting every league game since Gameweek 18.

Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) remains in the picture as a differential captain too after he extended his scoring run to eight goals in as many league matches in Double Gameweek 35.

This weekend he faces an Arsenal side that continues to struggle away from home, most recently outperformed by Wolves in a 3-1 defeat at Molineux.

    Ryan
    Laporte - Vertonghen - TAA
Mane - Sane - Son - Jota - Babel (TC)
    Aguero - Firmino

    Foster - Jimenez - Duffy - Valery

Chasing 70p in ML therefore i have benched Jimenez and TC Babel.
The only real difference in our team is 4 players: Sane, Jota, Babel and Firmino so this is where i would have to get the points.

Stupid or give it a try?

You ain’t catching him whatever you.
Just play for OR now imo.
BTW I would TC Firmino over Babel

      Crazy enough!
I think if you don't like any pool attackers, Son might be your option. Babel may work, but it might be unnecessary risk

Saw a FPL “advice” video on YouTube about popular players to avoid this GW.
One was Ryan because: “Brighton defended heroically last GW against Spurs and Wolves and will not likely do it again.
Just awful advice and effort put into the video.
No stats to back it up or anything.
    Woeful 😯

The stats that worry me most regarding Ryan are:

        Cardiff and Bournemouth at home:

7 goals conceded, 1 point in total.

I’ll still probably play him over Foster though when push comes to shove

Boly's team don't normally perform well away from home, especially (wierdly) against non top six sides.
Dunk plays for a side who couldn't keep a clean sheet at home to two underperforming sides recently, haven't won for quite a while, facing a player who just scored a hattrick.
Valery, fresh from illness, at home, plays wing back, against (granted have their moments) an underwhelming side who when bad are really bad.

        I'd actually say Shaw here.
Stones isn't nailed enough, Matip might be, but with CL football still going I'd say it's too much of a risk.

Shaw is nailed for three games, two of which are at home, and two of which are against bottom three teams.

Who is more nailed Sane or Bilva?

        B.Silva.

Although with KdB, and Fernandinho potential out, both should be pretty nailed.

          Good point lad.
If Fernandinho & Kdb are out pep might play SAS again
I might swap © to Raz from Bobby in that case

Never any guarantees with City, Foden might come in the midfield, although as he didn't last night, it could be suggested that B.Silva is preferred overall, and his versatility is useful.

      A) Jota (wat) or Redmond (BOU)? Already playing Jimenez.

      B) Duffy (NEW) or Doherty (wat)?

Aren't the Liverpool teams normally posted 61 minutes before kick off? So if you are quick enough you could see the team sheets before your transfers.

Nice pick, in worst-worst case he will return assist, I think, because Huddersfields will concede 3-5 goals easily. Remember that a lot of peoples use TC on Sane 1 pointer in DGW/Salah vs Fulham. No real pressure.

Have a 9 point gap to try make up in my ML.
Leader has used TC and currently has no Liv attack.
I can see him bringing in either Mane (who I have also) or Salah.
I think Bobby would remain a differential and it's a now or nothing situation.

9 points is absolutely nothing, in your case I`m actually would get Bobby as a differential, but TC Mane or even get Salah for a hit and TC him. Bobby in a nice captain/TC pick, but when you really need differential, not in case of 9 points. You can easily overthink this gap.

True. I think overall I have the better team for the run in. And the 9 points can easily be clawed back.
I reckon its a final day story this one.
              Cheers

Is Eriksen to Mane really worth it?

Think to do that move cause I don't have any Liverpool attacker. Eriksen tend to play deep and Mane is vs HUD is my reason.

Yeah. I don't think Eriksen will be rested. But like you say, Huddersfield heighten Mane's potential returns.

Two playing favourable home fixtures, so ultimately an undesirable sideways move. Try and see if you can facilitate the Mane move alternatively especially with assets that will fixture in the remaining gws.

Have all the league tables been fully updated? I was top of one of my leagues by 27 points before the DGW 35 began. He scored 113 during the DGW while i scored 137. But i'm somehow 2nd and behind by 2 points. I can't figure out how and I can't remember how many points I had before the gameweek. Just remember being 27 ahead.

      BB:102 Points

Going without Sterling is making me crazy, but hits required. The alternative is Bilva for some more City coverage. Thoughts?

      Foster ( Ryan )
Robbo Doh Duffy ( Kolanisac - Bednarek)
Salad Son Pogba Jota ( JWP )
      Laca Aguero Jimmy
