Captains

Captain Sensible – Man City take centre stage in Gameweek 37

Manchester City options have dominated the captaincy for Gameweek 37, but are not the only ones worth considering.

The defending champions host Leicester as they close in on a second succesive Premier League title and have largely been a formidable force at home.

However, the Foxes will be no pushovers considering the work Brendan Rodgers has done since arriving at the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, there’s a tough fixture for Liverpool at Newcastle and Manchester United and Chelsea have easier opponents.

We’ve covered the Gameweek 37 captaincy debate from all angles to bring you what we think of the key candidates.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) tops the captain poll for Gameweek 37 ahead of Leicester City’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on Monday night. He has been backed by 37.26% at the time of writing. The Argentinian may be waiting for his first Premier League goal at home since February, but he still has Fantasy returns in every single match he has started at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) is sat in second place but surprisingly has just 13.9% backing. That may because he has blanked in five of his last eight Premier League matches. However, the midfielder certainly offers powerful points potential in what will be a crucial fixture for Manchester City’s title bid. In the 10 home matches that both Sterling and Aguero have started this season, the Englishman has outscored his colleague on six occasions.

Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) completes the top three with the support of 9.5% ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle. The interest in the Egyptian is understandable given that he has attacking returns in each of his last five Premier League outings. In fact, it is now his longest run without a blank all season. Furthermore, no midfielder has more away goals than Salah in 2018/19.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) heads up the differentials department with 7.07% support ahead of Fulham’s visit to Molineux. His goal at Watford was actually his first since the Gameweek 30 trip to Chelsea, meaning the Mexican is without one at home since the 2-0 win over Cardiff in Gameweek 29. Jiménez’s backing is almost certainly based on the fixture, with the Cottagers still the worst side defensively this season. However, Scott Parker has managed to achieve clean sheets in each of Fulham’s last three matches.

Just behind Jiménez is Eden Hazard (£10.9m) on 6.79% with Watford coming to Stamford Bridge. The Hornets have conceded 1.55 goals per away game this season, and have fared even worse on their travels to top six sides in 2018/19. They have been breached 14 times in such matches this year, averaging 2.8 per game. Meanwhile, Hazard himself has registered double-figure scores in three of his last four at home and, with rumours surrounding his future, this could potentially be his final Premier League match at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player.

Despite a favourable fixture in a trip to Huddersfield, interest in Manchester United players has been decidedly low for Gameweek 37. That has been reflected in the captain poll where Paul Pogba (£8.5m) is the most popular Red Devil with just 4.1% of the vote. The Frenchman has just two goals since Gameweek 27, both of which came from the penalty spot against West Ham in Double Gameweek 34. Romelu Lukaku (£10.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) also have minimal support, 2.27% and 1.3% respectively, and both have questions over their fitness and form ahead of Gameweek 37. The pair has just five goals between since Gameweek 27.

The cheaper alternatives to Salah and Jiménez are also inside the top 10 but are not going to be huge players in the Gameweek 37 captaincy scene. Sadio Mané (£10.2m) has pulled in just 3.3% for the trip to Newcastle, while Diogo Jota (£6.3m) has 2.86% support for Fulham’s visit to Molineux.

Son Heung-min (£8.9m) completes the top 10 with his 1.86% backing ahead of Spurs travelling to Bournemouth, while Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is the only other option with more than 1% backing. The Icelandic international will be in action for Everton on Friday night as Burnley come to Goodison Park.

Chasing 18 points in ML and our teams are very similar bar the defence.

    Would you do:

    Mane > Hazard(c)

    Would give me:

    Ryan
    Trippier TAA Doherty
    Sterling Son Jota JWP Hazard(c)
    Agueto Jimenez

If Trippier is a differential defender, then I'd look at him, think it's unlikely he starts this weekend.

I own him and I'm selling him for sure. For some reason he doesn't play 2 games a week let alone 3.

A very valid differential. Or if you're fairly sure who they'll captain, save FT and just captain somebody else.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 37

Two more gameweeks to go. Still a battle at the top with the FFS Scout having taken a whooping 13 points in the last 5 GWs to stand their ground firmly at the top.

We are also now officially up-to-date. Plenty of times in the race for 3rd, and some pride further down. Let's get going!

    ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

    ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit on team value) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must comply with FPL formation rules and be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

    GK
    DEF DEF DEF
    MID MID MID MID
    FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Friday 3rd May, 7pm.

    ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

    1st place: 3 points
Top 4% of the population will rank "second" and score 2 points.
Top 10% of the population will rank "third" and score 1 point.

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. If you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 10% scoring positions or not.

Welcome to the game, and good luck.

    ***** THE STANDINGS *****

    Your top three:

    1st - FFS Scout (35pts)
    2nd - Ramboros (31pts)
    3rd - Lord (26pts)

I'm waiting for more clarification on this, hopefully later.
Norris is one thing, but he's probably the only player with no PL minutes, which is what the comments sound like.

I think Gibbs-White might also start the last two, but don't think we'll see too many other radical chances...at least I hope not

Well, the general theme of rotation and playing untried players does make this feel like Wolves are not that bothered. I can see some logic 🙂

20 points ish behind in ML..... thanks to rival playing TC on Salah last week and leapfrogging me.

We have similar teams except I have Kun/Jimi/Zaha he has Wilson/Jimi/King. Both have Sterling.

Thinking TC Kun or Sterling this week or next.

If city and liverpool are still neck and neck I’m thinking final week will be a crazy goal fest for city and Liverpool will choke.

So save the TC until next week?

No, I'm 90% sure I'll captain Aguero, actually TC this week.

For me, Aguero is the safer pick (hasn't failed to return in a home game all season, when playing over 60 minutes)
              Both excellent picks though.

    Best potential for points here:

    A) Dann (gw37/38) + Jwp (gw38) + Rashford (gw38)
    B) Shaw (gw37/38) + Jwp (gw38) + Mitrovic/Wilson (gw38)
    C) Jwp (gw37/38) + Taa (gw38) + Mitrovic/Wilson (gw38)

Basically debate between doing duffy >> Dann/Shaw this gw which impacts who i upgrade jimenez to next gw. Or

Saving FT (and starting Jwp) and use 2FTs next gw to do Doherty/Jimmy >> TAA + Mitrovic/Wilson

Ole Gunnar 'knocks and niggles' Pulis:

"Eric Bailly has probably been the one smiling the most out of all of us because you fear the worst (about his knee injury). There are a few little niggles, so let’s count the numbers on Sunday morning I reckon. Mason Greenwood started off this week training but then he’s out injured again unfortunately. We were looking at bringing him into the squad for the last two games - maybe he’ll make the last one."

    Current team is as follows

    Lloris
    Robbo TAA Kola
    Salah Eriksen Son Jota
    Aguero (c) Jimenez Wilson

    Foster, JWP, Duffy, Yoshida*

    2FT 0.1ITB

I'm thinking of doing eriksen and son to sterling and Redmond.
Or maybe eriksen and kola to Bilva and Laporte.
Crazy to go for Bilva over sterling at this stage?

Alright guys, I’d appreciate any feedback on this lot.

    Lloris
    Shaw | Kola | Robertson
    Bilva | Mane | Jota | Son | Eriksen
    Firmino | Aguer(c)

    Foster | Jiminez | Valery | Bednarek

1FT, 0.2 ITB. Not Comfortable with Jiminez on the bench but can’t see who to drop for him.

    Thank you!

I agree, 3-5-2 with Jimi on the bench looks weird, but agree, not sure who you'd move around instead.
