Eliteserien Fantasy: Gameweek 6 Preview

The first round of the NM Cupen took place in midweek, but there was little in the way of cup magic as all 16 Eliteserien teams beat their lower division opposition to make it to progress. In the league, fixture postponements due to Norway’s involvement in the U-20 World Cup have come thick and fast, with details of the teams affected below, along with previews of this weekend’s fixtures.

Mjøndalen vs. Stabæk

Centre back Sondre Solholm Johansen has surprisingly outscored set-piece wizard Joachim Olsen Solberg, but the promoted side are yet to keep a clean sheet. Julian Faye Lund has made more saves than any other goalkeeper but could face competition from fellow loanee Mathias Eriksen Ranmark. Tonny Brochmann has scored two penalties and set up two goals so far.

Franck Boli’s goals against B/G weren’t his most impressive, but they earned the hosts a big win and Boli three bonus points against the high flying Eagles. The only penalty save so far this season was made by Marcus Sandberg in GW1. Fantasy interest in Stabæk’s players will likely be heavily affected by their schedule.

Stabæk face consecutive blanks in GW9 and GW10 and consecutive doubles in GW14 (sif, odd) and GW15 (S08, bra).

Bodø/Glimt vs. Lillestrøm

Bodø/Glimt suffered their first defeat of the season against Stabæk. Still, they are unbeaten at Aspmyra and should be prepared for this match after a second string XI featured in an 8-0 cup victory.

Bodø/Glimt blank in GW10 and have two fixtures in GW17 (VIK, kbk).

Lillestrøm failed to win their first two away games this season and will be without Tobias Salquist after the defender picked up a red card in the cup, while Arnor Smarason is still unavailable. Thomas Lehne Olsen remains a threat up front despite not being the most clinical of finishers, while Kristoffer Ødemarksbakken was the matchwinner with his first goal of the season against Haugesund.

Brann vs. Ranheim

Despite not keeping a clean sheet in the first five games, Vito Wormgoor is the second top scoring defender in the game and is owned by over 60% of fantasy managers. Fredrik Haugen and Kristoffer Barmen will miss out this time, but Petter Strand and Gilbert Koomson are expected to be ready.

Brann will be without a game in GW17.

Change is in the air for Ranheim, with last season’s fantasy darling Erik Tønne now operating at left back. Even more worryingly for his owners, 3 of Ranheim’s 5 goals against Viking came without Tønne on the pitch. Mads Reginiussen looks more likely to repeat last season’s attacking exploits, while those looking for a cheaper option can consider Ola Solbakken and veteran Oyvind Storflor – all three midfielders registered their first returns of the season last gameweek.

FK Haugesund vs. Molde

Alexander Stølås is very good at free kicks. He blanked for the first time this season against LSK but is a direct or indirect threat any time the ball goes dead. Owned by more than 40%, he will surely feature in plenty of lineups even against the free scoring league leaders.

Magnus Wolff Eikrem has been a revelation and bagged a brace as Molde dismantled the champions. If they weren’t already heavy favourites for the title, they are now. Eirik Ulland Andersen will be out for a while with an achilles injury sustained in the cup, bringing Erling Knudtzon back onto the fantasy radar. Martin Ellingsen didn’t feature last season due to injury but has cemented his place in central midfield and could be a reasonable budget pick. Ruben Gabrielsen filled in at left back against Rosenborg – all defensive options are in play here.

Molde blank in GW17.

Kristiansund BK vs. Tromsø

Strømsgodset may have made it easy for him, but Flamur Kastrati bagged two goals in his first 45 minutes this season. Liridon Kalludra also impressed with a goal and an assist. Kristiansund’s two clean sheets thus far have both come at home and this seems a good fixture to back Sean McDermott and company. The Owls have won the corresponding fixture in the previous two seasons by an aggregate score of 9-2.

Kristiansund blank in GW10 and GW15 before a double in GW17 (ODD, B/G).

Tromsø will hope Runar Espejord can stay fit; he adds a different dimension to their otherwise diminutive attack and equalised against Brann with a poacher’s goal. There could be value to be found in midfield through Onni Valakari, Daniel Berntsen and Mikael Noro Ingebrigtsen, with the latter two able to play a more advanced role. Gutan’s defence looks one to avoid; Simen Wangberg’s 6-goal season seems a long time ago.

Odd vs. Strømsgodset

Odd find themselves second in the table with an abundance of viable fantasy options. The conundrum of whether Espen Ruud’s attacking threat makes him worth the extra 1m over Odd’s other defenders continues. It seems only a matter of time before Sander Svendsen opens his account. After two games without a goal, Torgeir Børven will hope to get on the scoresheet again – he has plenty of time to reach double figures in the league for the first time.

Odd blank in GW10 and have a double in GW14 (MOL, STB).

Strømsgodset seem to have the same problem no matter who plays: a leaky defence. It could still be worth considering Jonathan Parr for his assist potential. Yacouba Sylla has 9 bonus points this season but was less impressive in the last game and doesn’t carry much attacking threat. Godset still have an abundance of quality up front and Mos appeals with Marcus Pedersen a doubt.

Rosenborg vs. Sarpsborg 08

Nobody saw this coming. The champions, the biggest team in Norway, bottom of the table after five games. Their fantasy options look overpriced and rotation prone. David Akintola has disappointed, but regardless of whether that’s his own fault, he’s injured for Sunday’s match. Birger Meling was perhaps lucky to escape a red card against Molde, but is also injured. Gjermund Åsen hopes to be ready but in any case has looked lost since returning to his hometown club. RBK have been better at home, even if they haven’t taken their chances. Eirik Horneland badly needs a win.

Sarpsborg’s start has also been a strange one. They are the only unbeaten team in the league but may be disappointed to have drawn four games 1-1. Nicolai Næss scored a free kick against Mjøndalen but S08 are a little light at the back, with Jonathan Lindseth another fantasy midfielder playing in defence. Given they’ve managed to avoid losing to three top half teams so far, it seems as good a time as any to travel to Lerkendal.

Sarpsborg blank in GW10 and GW17, either side of a double in GW15 (stb, mol). Their fixture against Viking is yet to be rearranged.

Viking FK vs. Vålerenga

It was a brutal encounter for Viking’s defence last time out, but they’ll hope to bounce back on Monday night against a side yet to win on the road. Ylldren Imbrahimaj has probably been the budget pick of the season so far, with Kristian Thorstvedt also impressing. Tommy Høiland seems more likely to repeat his 2017 Eliteserien form than his 2018 OBOS-Ligaen form, but nevertheless opened his account with a goal and an assist against Ranheim.

Viking blank in GW10, the new date for their fixture against Sarpsborg is yet to be confirmed.

This fixture finished 7-1 to the club from the capital in 2017. Herolind Shala is the top scoring Vålerenga player so far but is a doubt for this game. Chidera Ejuke has been easy on the eye as ever and is probably the league’s best dribbler, Bård Finne has only played over an hour in half of VIF’s fixtures so far – both have 23 points.

Vålerenga blank in GW9 and GW15, with a double GW17 (sif, stb).

How are you looking for this GW?

    Yay thanks for publishing 🙂

I knew something would render this article out of date if I did write it and it's that Meling apparently trained and may still be available for RBK but Helland is out

      Thanks!

Thought about earlier to do Vilhjálmsson -> Børven because of the fixtures and Vilhjálmsson not delivering but his total shots / game 4, 5, 0, 0, 1 (sofascore) got me worried. Well... if indeed Strømsgodset has a leaky defence then I thought I'll give Børven a try so Vilhjálmsson -> Børven done!

I like that move and I wouldn't worry about a lack of shots as Børven seems to be more about sniffing out big chances

Cheers for writing it. Knudtzon in for me this week. Seems decent value while EUA's out, good team/fixtures and no blank to worry about for a while.

It seems like nffdirekte now release all the line ups exactly 1 hour before the games. I just checked for this round, and none of the lineups were up at 16:59, while all were up at 17:00.

Most teams do release their line ups on social media or on their website about 15 minutes earlier, but some teams are very inconsistent.

Not really their fault. Ruud timed his header perfectly, but hit the backside of Hagen's head instead of the ball. The graphics for the match is still showing the wrong goal scorer.

It's not the site's admins doing it wrongly anyway. The data is handled by Ota, so they are at fault if anything. Eliteserien Fantasy has to report any mistakes to Opta, hence it sometimes takes a while to correct the mistakes

            I'm planning for GW10 so it's difficult.

I'd like to downgrade him to Ejuke but considering how many transfers I'd like to use before 10, might be a waste of a -4

            Considering Reginuissen, Jensen, Sylla

Just got Reginiussen in from Thorstvedt for a minus 4 from Wihljamsson to Liseth.

Im no closer to a full side in GW 10 but should be able to get 9 out. Think that should be plenty. Having WCed I’m reluctant to break my side up for one Bgw

Wanted that move as I’m now cash rich and can get Wormgoor back (mistakenly sold on WC). His ownership makes him a necessity I think in 10.

My plan is to WC in GW11 so planning to get a full side.

I can get a full side with my FT's, but debating whether it's worth hits to make other transfers I actually want to make.. Layoun & Ejuke possibe Finne replacements, but that would mean getting Sylla instead of Diop for inclusion in my GW10 team

Nice to have WC in your pocket. GW11 looks good timing in principle.

Just noticed GW8 is a midweek game so rotation must be on the cards. It’d be a shame to take a hit around then to miss out

GW2 pretty much killed my season so I had little option but to roll the dice.

Does anyone have strong opinions about the comparative merits of Ronald and Psyche?

They’ve both done brilliantly for me - on my bench! One will need to go to get Wormgoor back for GW10.

I have Mc in goal so I suppose that argues for Psyche out. And I doubt I’ll be transferring fodder defenders again and those double doubles in 14/5 for Ronald look tempting. Brighton syndrome?

My only consideration so far for Stabaek doubles has been Boli, and haven't researched them much yet. I'm sure an attacking defender could be worth it though in such an unpredictable league.

I like it for the most part but if you can field something close to a full XI in GW10 I'd hold off wildcarding for now.

Parr over Vilsvik. Get Layouni in there. Espejord a bit risky but could be decent value as a lot rests on his shoulders.

          Thanks!

@ze_austin: Will probably get Boli back in for Mos, and plan towards the dgws. Except perhaps Layouni, I think I have all the must-haves.

@Tallestjohn: Parr over Vilsvik is interesting. Might find space for Layouni, but the plan was to wait until after the blanks. I am considering Botheim (4.8) if he starts today (352/442 also possible if he doesn't start in future rounds).

Have had an awful start, so I need a few non-template players as well. Hopefully Reginiussen, Zachariassen and Mos can be such options.

How did you go in GW2?

I scored a mighty 57 with attack attack attack. Almost gave up then.

(You’re timing your WC better than me anyway. Did it 2 weeks ago to try and recover ground. With the blanks announced I was down to 7 players!)

I did okay in gw2 with the rich uncle chip (105 points, gw rank 2-3k). Apart from that, I have had only one round with a top 10k gw ranking.

                Likewise

But the margins appear very narrow. This last week I was down to 26k but that had much the same effect of weeks with 13k or 15k.

Is sub 10k the normal benchmark for a decent green?

As a complete newbie it feels like that there’s probably a core of 25k hardcore players who are already on something very template and sizeable moves will be tough.

For now I’m happy enough to tread water two thirds of the way down that and learn a little and build squad value for some moves later.

The one upside of my WC is that I’ve put 2.5 mill in a couple of weeks. Probably meaningless but still satisfying on its own level

Managed to do Strand Larsen → Mos a minute before the deadline, I think he will be a great differential in the next few. Could barely ask for four better fixtures

Had to get rid of Nordkvelle who's been injured most of the season. Ended up getting Jensen in. Rosenborg has nice fixtures in the long term and Jensen is a sure starter. Lots of long balls in some games and a goal in the last game. Not totally happy though but couldn't anyone else in the short period of time that I had before the deadline. Oh well.

Jensen definitely the only RBK mid/fwd I'd consider other than Botheim if he looks like getting a run in the team

Botheim? 4,8?! Ok, one to monitor 🙂

Considered Jensen actually (but decided to drop Strand-Larsen instead). Think that could be a decent bet, as doubt Rosenborg will remain crap

I watched their last game and it looked like he was all over the place. Probably did hog all the set pieces too. How about penalties?

He usually seems to work hard for the team
Don't recall him ever taking a penalty but no idea really.

After halftime changes Valsvik -> Adegbenro & Botheim -> Soderlund Meling is again left fullback. And just almost scored a goal. Botheim didn't do a lot in the first half.
