Salah v Mane: how they compare after FPL price changes

Fantasy managers who are looking at owning just one premium Liverpool midfielder in 2019/20 may face something of a dilemma.

The relaunch of Fantasy Premier League has seen the gap in price between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane narrow considerably.

The Egyptian has dropped to £12.5m while his teammate, who shared the Golden Boot with Salah in 2018/19, has risen to £11.5m.

The price gap between the two players was £3.5m at the start of 2018/19.

Owning both premium midfield options isn’t impossible, of course, but it would leave a shortfall of cash elsewhere and sacrifices would have to be made in other positions.

Given Manchester City’s favourable-looking run of matches from Gameweeks 1 to 11, many FPL bosses will be needing a considerable chunk of their £100m budget to acquire Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) and/or Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), too.

Liverpool’s opening eight fixtures are among the most appealing in the top flight and indeed the Reds sit second in our Season Ticker from Gameweeks 1 to 8.

Jurgen Klopp’s side face newly promoted Norwich City and Sheffield United during that run, as well as three teams who finished in the bottom eight of the top flight last season: Newcastle United, Burnley and Southampton.

The Gameweek 3 visit of Arsenal, who kept fewer away clean sheets than any Premier League club in 2018/19, is also enticing from an attacking perspective.

In this latest Members’ article, we will run a direct statistical comparison to weigh up the pros and cons of each asset.

As well as the usual goal threat and creativity comparisons, we’ll be assessing their record against ‘lesser’ sides (given Liverpool’s favourable run at the start of 2019/20) using our new Flat-Track Bully tool.

Definitely, Classed as a midfielder and can only win more Penalties with VAR, which also makes Mili seems great value.

I'm liking King at 6.5, I don't think there is a 1.5 difference between him and Wilson. Jota at 6.5 would be gold at mid, I'm a bit hesitant to get him at FWD with those fixtures but Wolves are so unpredictable.

Digne, TAA, Robbo, Sterling, Siggy, and Zaha ain't leaving my team. I think they're fantastic picks.

I put the first five of those names immediately in to my team, but haven't considered Zaha. What gives you impression he'll be in the same league as the others? I started with him last year which wasn't a good move...

Something like 10 goals and 11 assists last season if I remember correctly, ended the season in a good streak of form, not getting much playing time for Ivory Coast in AFCON, criminally underpriced at 7.0...I can't see anyone better than him in the 7.0 and under bracket unless Sanchez becomes Arsenal-Sanchez again

Back in midfield gets him another 12 points in the season via cs and there’s Var as well.

        Not a bad pick

      Digne too expensive for me.

TAA, Siggy, Sterling, Zaha in my first draft too.

My main problem is I would have liked Kane. But cant have him + those above + one of Mané/Salah.

I'd happily pay 6m for Digne with those fixtures. Think you should reconsider mate!

Kane is priced very kindly. Hard to pick him over Sterling+Salah/Mane though

here is my draft, rotating JWP and Arnie through the first weeks. Have 0.5m itb which can move Button to who ever the starting Bournmouth keeper is

    Ryan
    Laporte VVD TAA Coleman
    Siggy Salah KDB Maddison JWP
    King

    Button Arnie Simpson Andone

Thoughts? any players in there who you initially dont see value in

I don't see value in having a 7.0/6.0 on the bench every week. Surely that bench money can be much better spent, e.g. on KDB --> Sterling

Jack O'Connell could be a decent 4.5m defender.

He's an overlapping centre-back for Sheffield United. He gets really far forward down the left, sometimes crossing or getting in the box. 3 goals, 3 assists last season.

And if Henderson renews his loan, Sheffield could be quite solid defensively.

    1. DantheManinaPan
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Given the lack of 4.5 keeper options, I expect I'll go for Henderson in goal (assuming he moves and costs £4.5, which is likely) - that would take O'Connell out of the question as two Utd defenders would be too much I think.

For those going with Ederson, I think he could be a good pick, though I'm not hopeful for Utd's clean sheet chances

How nuts is it to consider starting a £4.5m mid in a 4-4-2 to enable a back line of:
    Robbo, VVD, Laporte, Digne
    ?

Basically means I have 4.0 def, 4.5 mid, 4.5 mid, 4.5 fwd so one of them has to play (until I totally change my team of course)!

I don't disagree but I'm not sure what to change in the rest of my starting XI to fix it at the moment as I quite like it

        Ryan
        Robbo, VVD, Laporte, Digne
        Salah, Sterling, Siggy, **Stephens**
        Vardy, King
        (4.0) (Rico, Dendoncker, Greenwood)

I know what you mean... the trouble is I like the rest of the starting XI:

        Ryan
        Robbo, VVD, Laporte, Digne
        Salah, Sterling, Siggy, **Stephens**
        Vardy, King
        (4.0) (Rico, Dendoncker, Greenwood)

It's not bad, but not strong enough overall for me. I'm personally never comfortable having a non-playing third striker, just my preference, so 4-4-2s always look unappealing to me.
