FPL position change and Leicester move boost Perez’s appeal

Ayoze Perez has completed a £30m move to Leicester City, leaving Newcastle United after five years in the north-east.

Perez was one of a handful of Fantasy Premier League assets who saw his position change upon the game’s relaunch this summer.

An FPL forward in his first four seasons in the top flight, Perez was reclassified as a midfielder in June after playing more than half of his games in 2018/19 in more of a supporting role behind Salomon Rondon.

Had his Fantasy position been altered 12 months earlier, the extra points he would have accumulated for goals/clean sheets would have put him in the top ten highest-scoring FPL midfielders of 2018/19.

Available for £6.5m this season, Perez would have been an intriguing prospect even if had stayed on Tyneside – but a move to a Leicester side that has developed an attacking swagger under new boss Brendan Rodgers will provoke even more interest in the Fantasy community.

Where to use 1.5? Pretty happy with this squad.

    Ryan
    LARD, Targett
    Salah, KDB, Siggy, Zaha/7.0, Stephens
    King, Deulofeu, Wickham

      not bad at all.

Personally I would change Ryan > Ederson and Laporte > Azpi, and keep the remaining 0.5 ITB

I guess if your set on this team then you could do King to Wilson if you felt worth it . Or if your not set on Deulofeu he could become Jiminez.

Or getting a premium keeper is an option.

    Zero love for Holebas around

I have him very high on my preseason watchlist. If he’s nailed I may well go there - until he picks up 5:6 cards - hopefully that gets me to first WC.

He matched Digne very closely last season until cards and that cs run began - got more assists. I could see that repeating unless Everton buy a striker better than DCL.

(Have one of Digne Coleman anyway so it’s not an either or for me - just using Digne as comparison)

    It’s a punt but I’m not seeing a better 5.0 spend if he’s nailed,

Try looking at returns up to GW 19 before cards kicked in - Ake is nowhere close to Holebas really.

Holebas was brilliant value first half last season. The question is whether that repeats or whether Holebas is being phased out.

It's such an awkward price though, I prefer Ake at 5m, but even then I'm not happy.
I'm either going big with TAA, Robertson, and Digne (no Salah), or I'm going TAA, Digne, and rotating 4.5s with Salah.

It’d be a punt and needs an encouraging preseason but Ake I don’t buy into at all. If it’s not Holebas then it’s either a big 5 or a big 4 wait and see for a 4.5 bolter early on.

The more I look at Kane the more I want him... AVL NEW and CRY as his first 3 home games, pretty interesting!

      1. HamezMace

Kane, Salah and Sterling is possible, but not if you want the super defence which is so popular on here.

        1. TheLord
          • 2 Years
          1 year, 1 day ago

Yeah exactly. I managed a draft with all 3 but that meant playing a 4.5 defender every week and losing Siggy for a 5.5 mid... Not convinced it's worth it atm

          Are you getting all 3?

          1. HamezMace
            • 5 Years
            1 year, 1 day ago

I really want all three, but I think it harms the team overall too much.

Last season I tried starting the season with Salah, Kane, and Aguero with a budget defence, and having a starting 5m midfielder, and it didn't go well, and was so difficult to get the RAM defence which was returning for everyone else, so I'm reluctant to try the same thing again this year.

Don’t like that back line really with both VVD and Laporte. For large parts of last season they looked marginal at best.

Laporte only moved ahead of Walker late last season - those returns seem a bit chancy to me. VVD was more consistent but again TAA blows him out of the water on ppm. I’d have one of Laporte or VVd but not both on the basis of very uneven attacking returns and potentially expensive cs.

Disagree with you on Ake. We’ll see.

Mili could be gold but needs patience. I had him starting last season when he didn’t get any returns. He’s not quite a one trick pony but very close.

I should add I had both VVD and Laporte first half last season and it was very sub optimal. Add in Ake and you’re wing back light. That’s where consistent attacking returns are likely.

Long term you might hit but I’m betting you’ll move off it early when they don’t

Looking at 5:3:2 formation with this team for now:

    Ryan (Button)
    Zinch Walker VVD Robbo Digne
    Siggy Salah Sterling (Hayden 4.5)
    Jota Wilson (Wickham)

Ryan the weakest link but the fixtures aren't very bad to start with. The issue here is if defenders fail to impress at the start, you will have to use the WC pretty much quickly.

    Any comments on this team?

With Mendy, Zinchenko and now Angelino, City's LB slot is too risky.

I don't see Wilson offering 1.5m value more than King, I'd downgrade and get Laporte if you're set on double City defence.
Personally I think I'd do Wilson -> King, Ryan -> Lloris and Zinchenko -> Azpi/Luiz

      1. ZeBestee
        • 5 Years
        1 year, 1 day ago

Yeah Lloris is on my radar, but I think Wilson offers much more than King, more so when he is injury free.

Why go with Chelsea defence? You think they will do well under Lamps?

Not sure yet, but they got 16 clean sheets last season and Luiz/Azpilicueta have generally been decent for goals/assists/bps.

Obviously pending preseason but any switch to get Kante back behind the ball should increase the appeal.

Either way, I think Zinchenko is wishful thinking

Mendy looks like he is still injured and he will miss the preseason. Will Angelino replace Zinchenko early? They had 14 CS's at the back end of last season with him in the starting 11.

With Rudiger injured, do you think Christensen will start the season as first choice? Zouma also coming back.

I rate Zinchenko very highly but unless it becomes clearer over preseason that situation is too murky for my liking. As Pingissimus says below, you need to be able to ride out rough patches with a big back 5, and I think over the course of the season Mendy/Zinchenko/Angelino will share minutes.

Not sure RE Chelsea CBs tbh, need to wait and see

Double City at the back feels suboptimal - City are about goals. All the records belong to them now - imo it’s perverse to double defence and not attack

On the big back 5 - to me it’s a midterm call. It’ll fail at some point simply because cs are so chancy - see City last season. It’s a system that works best if you’re prepared to sit and wait for value to kick in with cs over a 10-12 match run.

Think they've launched the game too soon this year. Yes I've created my team but havent touched it since. Just dont get the usual pre season buzz of tinkering with my squad.
    Should I see a specialist ?

As one commented earlier here, the PL want people to start discussing about it on SM earlier, the game to be more popular and even more addictive. They are smart you know.

Like the team bar Leno & I'm 50/50 on Pogba.

Love the Yarmolenko pick, he looked quality before his injury.

Alisson and Firmino to get 3 weeks off after Copa America final on Sunday.

    https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-give-brazil-stars-roberto-16528180

If Salah and / or Mane were to reach the AFCON final (19th July) and were given the same time off, they'd be back for in training around 9th August (same date Pool play Norwich).

I'm pretty sure both will start against Chelsea (14th August) in the Super Cup Final, but unless they cut their holidays short by a week or so (?), there's a good chance one or both are on the bench for Norwich.

Yeah and that may have an impact on their early form as well. I think going Pool defence will be less riskier, imo.

Double Pool defence is an absolute no brainer imo.

Saw the prices the other day and I think TAA, VVD and Robbo came in 0.5-1m cheaper than expected.

They "eat" a lot of the funds though, TAA is the best pick but with Gomez now back, i fear rotation will be a lit bit more this season in the RB position. I would just go with the absolutely nailed on options to forget about tinkering every now and then.

WIll still only double up, a free slot for on off Salah/Mané

Will have to monitor that situation closely. Think I'll go Salah-less from the start if no playing, and rather plan a double swap in GW2/3. Casuals may even cause a slight price drop if they don't start.

I'm just speculating on the basis of Alisson's + Firmino's break. Maybe Salah + Mane might fancy cutting their break short, although they're in their rights not to.

Can I have a number 1 but swap the Fraser for a King and the Deulofeu for a Maddison?

        I already have King:

        Ryan
        TAA, Robertson, Coleman, Walker
        Siggy, Fraser, Salah, Sterling
        King, Deulofeu

Will it? I'm hoping that the addition of Rodri, plus KdB and Gundogan being fit, will allow Pep to play Bernardo wide most of the time.

I haven't got him for now, but I'll be keeping an eye on that situation

        Thanks mate.

        Team is:

        Ryan
        TAA, Robertson, Coleman, Walker
        Siggy, Fraser, Salah, Sterling
        King, Deulofeu

First RMT (Although it has changed a few times)

    Ryan
    TAA, VVD, Digne
Salah (C), Siggy, Filipe A, Perez, Zaha
    King, Kane

    Bench: Button, Targett, Kelly, Wickham.

0.5 ITB after swapping Maddison for Perez in light of his move.

Serious worry but I don't see value in the defence at the moment. The only player I could really get in is B Silva (unless I sold Kane / Salah or reshaped the whole team).

The only city players I would seriously consider is Sterling & Kun!

Maybe an early wildcard get Son & Kun after a few weeks?

please appreciate some thoughts, then I think it is time to stop tinkering for a while. Have to rotate Diop Dendoncker whose fixtures dovetail OK.

    Heaton
    TAA, Laporte, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Zaha, Grealish, Dendocker
    Kane, King
    4.0, Diop, Wickham Gibson
