Is it worth paying extra to have Jiménez over Jota?

Fantasy Premier League managers may have a tough decision when considering Wolves’ attacking options in 2018/19.

A price hike for Raúl Jiménez (£7.5m) has put clear daylight between him and colleague Diogo Jota (£6.5m).

Despite the latter’s switch from midfield to the forward department, his offer of a £1.0m saving is certainly enticing.

In this latest members article, requested by readers on site and social media, we will compare Wolves’ two central strikers to assess which is the better option for our Fantasy teams.

As this uses data taken from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for 2019/20 can access the bulk of the article.

Selecting the right period for comparison

Wolves changed their formation to a 3-5-2 in Gameweek 15.

On the surface, it’s hard to look past Jiménez given that he outscored Jota across the 2018/19 season.

The Mexican recorded a final total of 181 points compared his Portuguese colleague’s 139.

That is probably why Jiménez is, by a long way, the more popular of the two following the release of the 2019/20 game.

In fact, currently sat in 42.7% the former Benfica man is the most fashionable asset in any position.

Obviously, his price means that auto-pick selections will still be influencing that figure, and it has dropped slightly from the 43.5% he was at on July 5.

However, to suggest either his 2018/19 score or early 2019/20 popularity are cause to back Jiménez over Jota would be somewhat naïve.

I feel like I should squeze in Kane for atleast 2 reasons : Aston Villa at home to open season and rather tempting price but I kee lookinh at Vardy and 2m saving.
Will observe pre-season but something tells me that Rodgers and Foxes will really rip it up this year.

Thing is, if you pick vardy and then Kane goes mad and scores really well then you have at the very least two transfers to get him in.
But if you start with Kane and then decide to go with vardy then it’s a simple downgrade and frees up cash for your next transfer.

      Kane for me.

Kane has villa at home GW1 in comparison to vardy playing Wolves who are a MUCH stronger side than villa.
Yes Kane has city gw2 but vardy doesn’t exactly have an easier fixture as he plays Chelsea.

just saying if Kane does go mad against Villa you don't necessarily want to do a -4 for Kane before GW2 anyway

True, but if he also grabs a goal at city then everyone’s going to be scrambling to get him in before his amazing run from GW3 onwards.

Not bad, different with mane in there who is still a great pick regardless of his price rise.

Don’t like the jota pick, think we need to wait and see with them as they have Europe to deal with. Jota could hardly string multiple 90 minute matches together even when they weren’t in Europe last year, so who knows what his minutes will be like this time around.

After loads of research into budget defenders, keepers, benching options etc this is the result I've come up with
    Ryan
Robertson VVD Taylor/Oconnell/Diop (Rotating for one spot)
Salah BSilva Siggy KDB(swap to Son if it goes Titus bramble up)
    Vardy King Deulofeu
With Button and dendonker on the bench. Probably the cheapest way to get and entire bench without compromising your first 11. Doesn't look half bad tbh

Mentioned the fixtures of the 3 way rotation on the previous post.. Its beautiful. And I like owning a 4.5 gk. I do understand that this won't be for everyone though. I just know how I play and an expensive defense is nothing but a money bank for me to upgrade my attack after a few gws so I'm keeping most of my value in attack now itself lol

Not read all of the comments so don't know if this has been mentioned, but Jota's 5.7 points per game is slightly misleading given he was classified as a midfielder so benefited with an extra point per goal (9 points) and point per cleansheet (10 cleansheets - although not all after gw15).

Fairly. Who to pick is another question.

Ederson? Nailed completely but won’t deliver much more than 6
Laporte? Probably best bet, nailed while also having some threat, but is the most expensive
Mendy? Great option and my favourite IF he stays fit and claims his spot. Big if
      Walker? Meh
Zinchenko? Interesting option if he claims first choice over Mendy

Folks planning to go with a 6.5 6.5 4.5 frontline...

Are you not worried about not even having someone like Vardy at his pricepoint? Feels a bit risky having a frontline of King Deulofeu fodder, way less so (for me) than sacrificing a mid to PLAYING fodder to get Vardy in?

I’ve got two teams, one with Vardy one without, posted on the last page (or can be found in my comment history)

Good for thought, and just wondering what our justifications are?

Note: if going w/o Vardy I’ll almost definitely have Perez/Tielemans/Maddison

        Potentially. I quite like:

        Heaton (Button)
        TAA VVD Laporte Coleman (Kelly)
        Salah Sterling 6.5 (Dendoncker Romeu)
        Vardy King Deulofeu

Option to downgrade Vardy and upgrade a mid with maximum of one hit if necessary, and you’re at least getting a nailed 4.5 with the mods as opposed to the forwards.

Can FFS do article about Vardy too in members area?

    1. Can Vardy match or surpass Salah and Sterling?
    2. How Vardy performance against big six?

    Thanks in advance.

Vardy rips "the big six" as they don't sit back. Most of the lower teams sit deeper (less technically gifted players or generally not as confident) where as the "big six" play ball so they step further up the field (more attacking generally). This allows Vardy space in behind the backline which he uses to his advantage and is how he allows to play. With talent like Maddison, Tielemans playing through-balls or over-the-top balls it's easier for Vardy to penetrate, especially on the counter attack.

Kelly only starts if there’s an injury crisis. Gomez could be a reasonable call but it seems perverse to ignore both TAA and a Robbo. They’re the tops as they return even without cs. Vvd can but does do less often

Three premiums isn’t really doable without sacrifices. It isn’t a bad defence - it just looks odd. Neither here nor there.

If you’re set on S and S then I think Vardy can get you a defence that isn’t so cs reliant.

Tielemans at Leicester - surely this only increases the attraction of Vardy (9.0) - up front with Firmino (9.5) and a 6.0/6.5 Striker.
    Looks like a winner

Will Tielemans arrival have an effect on Maddison, or is it looking like a triple Leicester?

I know there is 2.0 difference in cost, but is triple Leicester better than triple Bournemouth at the start? I’m thinking:

    A) Maddison (possibly Gray to save 1.5), Tielemans, Vardy = 23 (21.5 with Gray)
    B) Brooks, King, Wilson = 21

His price rips my team up too much and I think set and forget captain on him is so boring. I've always stood by if you had 20M to spend on two players would I rather Salah (12.5) and a 7.5 or two 10.0s I'd probably go with two 10.0s.

    Good article Jota Vs Jimenez...

Of Wolves first 5 fixtures only one (Burnley @home GW3) is really enticing.

The others are middling to tough, otherwise Jota would be straight in at that price.

Then again, Wolves did show form in tough games on paper last season.

I'm tempted by Murray if only he would get the minutes - cheaper, plus 3 decent home games and away at Watford in the corresponding first 5 games. After that he could retire...
