FFScout all set for latest Charity Cup

The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup takes place today.

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held this morning at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked heremeeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

This is the perfect result for anyone planning double or treble Liverpool defence

Believe it or not, there will actually be people thinking twice about their Liverpool defenders for FPL now - bonza! 🙂

I know it's hilarious could work out nicely.
Robbo and TAA 12 to 15 pointers each 🙂

With Allison & VVD there that defence will be tighter than the tightest of duck’s arses come GW1.

With Robbo & TAA on the wings it’s genuinely frightening

Conceding 9 goals in around 4 matches is a lot. I will go with 2 max, maybe 1 now. It's a new season and momentum and confidence can be key.

It's pre season but the season is near I expect their defence to start coming together with almost all their defenders playing bar Alisson. It's still early but nonetheless a concern. Good news is early fixtures are nice.

As we see year in year out, pre season performances are notoriously unreliable predictors of actual competitive performance - teams key focus are on building fitness, avoiding injury, getting through the game in one piece and getting rid of the “dirty diesel” from the summer

GW1 is always a different animal altogether - we’ve been given a gift from the FPL Gods with this Liverpool defence, anger them at your own risk 😉

The charity shield will be the main thing that informs us of the best mix of City/Pool, not these results

Wouldnt give the charity shield a second thought when it comes to Liverpool defence - Dropping their defenders over a poor performance in the charity shield would be category 1 madness imo

It's a bit more than that.

Lose to City, that sets the tone for the season again

It honestly doesn’t set anything - the charity shield is unfortunately meaningless - it’s like the par 3 competition at Augusta before the masters

A nice little distraction, but ultimately a dead rubber

It can however be useful to gauge injuries etc

I agree with most of what you say. But calling the Charity Shield a friendly is nonsense. Pool- City in such a game is huge for each team. They will be doing their all to win it. And if Pool let's in more than 3 in this game, it will be a let down, not to say headache for Liverpool.

The Community Shield will give us clues, but Liverpool won't be facing the most dominant team in Premier League history every week.

    https://www.arsenal.com/news/why-lacazette-came-early-against-lyon

In Unai Emery’s post-match press conference, our head coach was asked why Lacazette needed to be withdrawn in the game’s early stages. Here’s what he said:

    on Lacazette's injury...
Good evening. We are thinking it's not important, he decided with the doctor and with me that it is better to take no more risk. He tried to continue playing but I think it was better in the pre-season to take patience. The doctor said to me he is going to check tomorrow but the thinking is that it is not important.

on if Lacazette will have a scan…
It’s in his ankle. [A sprained ankle. He will probably be assessed over the next few days - but it’s not serious].

If Pepe to gunners is confirmed what kinda price will he be could be a 2 week punt if looking like starting.
Almost an attacking return per game and we are talking Turkey or Belgium here.

          See stats say it was.
Any chance he could get pens? looks like he only ever missed one.
Would be interesting to know how many he wins as he can't get point for both in FPL anyway.

      His record looks pretty unreal

22G 11A in 38 games & seemed to play nearly every minute of every game

9 of those were pens allright, but he still seems to have outgrown Ligue 1

Not going near him with Emery though, at least until we see how things are for a few games

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

Almost exactly the same record as Zaha in fact if you deduct penalties and reason Ligue 1 is a distant 5th in league strength.

          • 14 Years

Good spot - but what I don’t know is how many of those pens he won himself which would bump him back up a bit

Plus Zaha at arsenal would likely have nuclear ownership

But admittedly not at the 9.0 or so that Pepe might be

Drop Wilson, get King. Use the million to up your allready good team. King will give you allmost the same, he in pens as well.
I'd say Zinchenko all the way. Vardy/Laca is hard.. However I would go Vardy and save another 0.5m. Now you have 1.5m itb and can upgrade Moura or Trossard.

    Ok quick fire question :-

    A. 3-4-3
    B. 4-4-2
    C. 3-5-2
    D. 4-5-1

    1. Offside
      • 4 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

Based on value 4-5-1 is the best formation, but 3-5-2 is retrospectively better. As in the cheapest highest scoring players from last season get more points overall in your team today at today’s prices. But if you take their values at the beginning of last season 3-5-2 is better.

So 3-5-2 if you can predict which players will offer the best value this season. But 4-5-1 if you are using this seasons pricing to judge value.
