Leicester differentials could reward investment in 2019/20

Leicester City’s squad could provide Fantasy Premier League managers with some powerful differentials in the early part of 2019/20.

Probably because of uninspiring opening fixtures, none of Brendan Rodgers’ players is owned by more than 13.7% ahead of Gameweek 1.

However, there is enough in the underlying statistics from last year to suggest the Foxes could enjoy Rodgers’ first full season at the helm.

As this article uses data Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who are signed up for the 2019/20 can access it in full.

Pepe added to Sky as a midfielder for 9.8, which is cheaper than Kante Jorginho and Gundogan 🙂

I can't see pepe putting in as much combined passes, interceptions and tackles as those other three.

that's true, especially with Jorginho who racked up passing bonus's last season iirc, that been said though Pepe should outscore all of the above with goals assists + shots on target Bonus,

with Sterling Mane Salah etc classified as forwards this year, i for one am very happy that Pepe is a mid and a reasonable price too

How convinced are we that Pérez is a nailed on starter over the likes of Gray / Barnes?

Would love to have him in on the basis he is nailed, otherwise il get Tielemans

Ederson and King or Wilson and Heaton?

If you take last seasons point into consideration Ederson scored 65 points more than any of the current goalkeepers listed at 4.5

Do you think Wilson will outscore King by 65 pts?

If so, then B. If not then A.

I would go for A as there are many good 6.5 options in attack if King fails and less good 4.5 options in goal if Heaton fails

But Fab was 4.5 last season and both Heaton and Pope have scored in the neighborhood of 150 in recent seasons unmarred by injury.

The 4.5 keepers is a lottery...rather go for save points and not spend transfers trying to find the cherry in a pile of dirt.

Easy to downgrade to a 4.5

Easy to find a replacement for King in the 6.5 Category when fixtures turn

Guess it depends on how risky one wants to play

It’s true that you have to pick the right 4.5 (or one of them), which is not always as easily done as said. “Lottery” may overstate the case somewhat.

My dilemma exactly. Having Wilson gives more flexibility to change to Haller, Abraham or other options after week 2. However I have been burned by 4.5 keepers the last two seasons. For now I am sticking Ederson/ King. I could be tempted the other way if Pope is the established Burnley starter. Villa has added so many players I fear a repeat of Fulham with Heaton.

Well last season I went for Fab, so wouldn't see it as a 65 point differential. I think someone will prove to be value at 4.5 and I feel like Heaton can be it, just got to nail it. The thing about going Ederson means that I need to get rid of Zinchenko due to too many City players. I already have Coleman and don't really like AWB or the other 5.5 options. Leaning towards Wilson/Heaton

                    I’m All for I formed opinions 🙂

I think the point people are making is that there is a flaw in the logic being used to support the opinion - that being that Only looking at the ‘’available 4.5’s’’ misses The facts that Pope & Heaton have already gotten 150’s in the past as we established... and that Etheridge & Fabianski both smashed it at 4.5 last season

Hendo, Pope, Heaton could all easily do the same this year, or they might not. Ederson might get 180, or even push for 200 if he saved a few pens... or he might not... it’s all ifs & buts 🙂

                    all of this

I get the point. But Etheridge had a wonder season in terms of penalty saves that lead to CS and 3 bps. That is a lot points in the end. Burnley in the two seasons you mentioned were something else. They are not at that level defensively anymore. No one expected Fabianski to turn up like he did. Ederson is the safer pick. He is not dependent on unreal saves etc. You know what you get. He is easy to downgrade. Whereas its harder to upgrade a 4.5 to a premium. Your stuck with straight swaps unless you use two transfers. The value of transfers is essential. You only get 38 for free during a season.

If a 4.5 turns Up and proves good value obviously I would switch too. But would not build a team around it and depend on it. Rather start with a safe premium option and then downgrade than the other way around. To me its about balance.

But as you said. Each to his own. And thanks for reply. Very kind of you sir

Completely disingenuous to make a point about points of current 4.5m last season and conveniently excluding the 4.5 from last season that have risen in price

I don't think it's good analysis to only pick out the top-performers at any price point. Sure, with any player, if you are lucky enough to start with the one who most highly overachieves, well done you. But the point is at the start of the season it's a punt. Look at the AVERAGE number of points accrued by a 4.5 keeper last season - it was around 2.5 points per match. That should be your base.

Ederson averaged 4.5 points per match. So a fair comparison is to ask whether Wilson is likely to score 2 points per match more than King.

Added to that, if you have Ederson, you're not going to change him. With the 4.5 unless you are very lucky, you're going to be dropping him when a seemingly better 4.5 emerges and using up a transfer, uncertain that you got the right bandwagon.

Plus Using the average for the entire bracket will way undercall things

There are 29x 4.5 keepers, we can with a fairly high degree of certainty isolate the likely top end of the bracket in terms of points - I.e. nearly ~25x of those 29 can pretty safely be ignored

It’s Heaton, Pope, Henderson where the action is at... there may be one or two more but those three are the likely stand outs

I was excluding goalkeepers who never played or only played a few games. Perhaps the most average specific example would be Lossl. Average 2.5 points.
But that raises another complication - many of the 4.5 keepers were rotated i.e. dropped by their managers - Hart, McCarthy, Begovic etc. Ederson will not be vulnerable to that.

Those lower scores can very safely be removed from the average by removing the poorer performing GK’s from the sample

Any FPL manager (imho) should be looking at Heaton, Pope, Henderson & seeing the *potential* 140-150+ points - and weighing it up against the *probable* 160-180+ that the Brazilians offer

                          There are no guarantees

2.5 PPG is less than 100 points in a 38 game season.... Heaton has 2x 150 point seasons under his belt already, Pope has 1x, Fabianski did it last season, Etheridge did it last season

Even simplistically giving those keepers 38 games and 8-10 clean sheets is 120-ish before getting a single save - 20-30 points of saves net of deductions isnt a huge stretch at all, which using this 2.5 PPG average completely misses

"Those lower scores can very safely be removed from the average by removing the poorer performing GK’s from the sample"

You sound like someone who prepares the data for Boris Johnson. Why would you remove the low scores if you want an accurate analysis? Why would any good fpl manager only look at the maximum potential points rather than the likely average? I don't see you jumping all over Joelinton as potentially the next Jimenez and rightly so.

What I'm saying is that at this time last year, people were not anticipating low scores from Begovic and Hart. For all we know, this year Henderson and Heaton at newly-promoted clubs could just as easily turn out to be this year's Hart and Begovic as they can this year's Fabianski or Etheridge. You can't reasonably say that about Ederson.

Because I have a brain? There are 26 of the 29 4.5 GK’s for whom it can (pretty safely) be said will not be a factor points wise

                          This isn’t rocket science 🙂

What you’re basically saying is “if you ignore all the 4.5’s that have done well in the past, it looks like 4.5’s won’t do well this season”...

Ederson & Allison are both more expensive for a reason and should be safe bets for 160-180

But Heaton, Pope and Henderson all individually have hugely positive cases for this season & no one would be suprised to see any of them get 140 - 150+

Cardiff conceded 7 pens last season, Etheridge saved 3 of them & let in the other 4 (generally 4 out of 5 penalties are scored)

Whilst It was a great record - cheaper keepers in general face more penalties than elite defences, and therefore generally get more pen saves

They also generally get noticeably more save points than their more expensive brethren - this is why in each of the last 4 seasons we’be Had multiple 4.5 keepers break the 150 barrier (Heaton, Pope, Fabianski, Eheteridge)

I clearly did not say that. I said if you ONLY consider the overachievers you get a skewed picture. To get a BALANCED picture you need to consider the underachievers equally.

Why not? In GW1 last season Begovic was popular - we were lured by Bournemouth's easy opening fixtures, hence Bego, Daniels and so on having high ownership. Hart was also popular due to Burnley's previous season. Hennessey - yup, him too. They all seemed very viable bargains before the season started. You're only judging them in retrospect which again distorts the picture.

Hart and Hennessey averaged 3.6 and 3.7 respectively which is much better value than Ederson offers. There always is some risk at that price your odds are fairly high

Whilst I lack the desire to go through all 25x 4.5 keepers - let’s take Begovic, Boruc, Travers for example - who in their right minds will start with one of those three when none are nailed, and their defence conceded 79 goals last season?

                          keyboard fail 🙁

My examples: over 3000 minutes - the beloved Ryan and Lossl.
Fair crack of the whip at over 2000 minutes - McCarthy.
Dropped by their managers fairly promptly - Hart, Hennessey, Begovic.

All of these bargain gks were deemed viable options before GW1 last season. It's only in retrospect that they're rejected now. Henerson and Heaton at promoted clubs are just as likely to be this year's Hart or Begovic as they are this year's Fabianski or Etheridge.

Help me understand this correctly - are you saying your 2.5PPG average for 4.5 keepers from last season excludes Fabianski & Etheridge?

It would be helpful to see he exact players & points totals you’ve used to arrive at he 2.5 PPG

As intuitively speaking - a 95 points total and Heaton, Pope, Henderson’s prospects this season just shouldn’t be in the same sentence

I've listed the specific goalkeepers I'm referring to in the post above.
Re. Etheridge - be honest now, no one, absolutely no one had him in their GW1 starting line up.
For those who started with Fabianski or Patricio fair play, you chose wisely, although Patricio at just over 3 ppm wasn't great.

I think that covers all the starting 4.5s apart from the Fulham GK who I can't even remember, but who's below-average performance probably balances out Fabby. So my average of 2.5 points each stands.

If your GW1 choice turns out to be this year's Fabianski, you've done well. But you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting it right from the off.

I’m going to take a leaf from your book here and quote your previous post 🙂

“Look at the AVERAGE number of points accrued by a 4.5 keeper last season - it was around 2.5 points per match. That should be your base.”

Can you list the keepers, their scores, and how you’ve got to 2.5 PPG - as it’s starting to look ridiculous now as a representation of what we can expect from Pope, Heaton, Henderson bs. The brazilian 6.0’s.

Your GW1 choice doesn’t need to be this years Fabianski, or Etheridge, or Ryan/Pope from the prior year, or Heaton from both the years before, or any of the other 4.5’s that have broken 150+ 😉

I already listed the keepers and you can see their scores on the FPL site. I'm not prepared to get bogged down in minutiae and repeat myself for those who refuse to see. You're going off speculative expectations, I'm going off raw data from last season.

But if you like, I'll sign off with this speculation. Currently, there are 10 starting keepers priced 4.5-5m owned by over 3%. It doesn't yet include Henderson but let's add him to bring the total up to 11. Going by previous experience, 2 of those will turn out to be good value and worth keeping for the season. 9 will turn out to be misjudged punts.

Does your 2.5PPG include Fabianski & Etheridge?

I'm not pouring over spreadsheets, I'm going off the figures on the FPL site. I don't have the figures fro Cardiff and Fulham (fortunately Lossl's is to hand).
I didn't include them in the initial 2.5. If we add them alone maybe the average goes up a couple of spots. If we are fair and include Fulham, maybe it's back to where I started. But if you insist on ignoring figures that don't confirm your bias, we end up wherever you want to be.

I only included the top 3. The other 3 played insufficient minutes so I didn't use them to get to my average. However, I did stress that you need to consider how many 4.5 bright prospects get dumped by their managers to get a full and accurate picture.

I’m afraid I’m still exactly where I was an hour ago before you started this rat hole with a fictitious 2.5 PPG that we allegedly “should use as a base” when judging Heaton, Pope & Heaton’s prospects versus the 6.0 Brazilians

Your position seems to have no discernible basis in fact (or at least none that you’re willing to stand over & be transparent with), seems totally impractical (I.e. we should use but part/non-nailed 4.5 jeepers from last year rather than Fab/Eth/Pope/Other 150’s) and instead seems to be much more focused on capitalising certain words and repeatedly quoting sections of others posts 🙂

And I think the point people were making here is that there is a flaw in the logic being used to support the opinion - that being that Only looking at the ‘’available 4.5’s’’ misses The fact that Pope & Heaton have already gotten 150 in the past... and that Etheridge & Fabianski both smashed it at 4.5 last season

Henderson, Pope, Heaton could all easily do the same this year, or they might not... Ederson & Allison might get 180, or even push for 200 if they saved a few pens... or they might not... it’s all ifs & buts

I'm tired of politicians wilfully ignoring data due to their Brexit agenda and trashing the UK economy, and I'm tired of seeing the same confirmation bias when I try to switch to something more relaxing. If you are so sure you know who's the best 4.5 goalkeeper for next season because of your expectations, you just go with that. Sorry I tried to help.

Andy, just get a 4.5m GK, (Pope or Heaton, Pope for me), transfer to the best 4.5m after there is enough data/WC and use your extra 1.5m to improve elsewhere. Do not get Ederson or Alisson. Get Lloris if you're feeling saucy.

I was all set with my draft did not change it for ages now I am starting to doubt everton defensively and I Pickford and Digne.
        Reasons -
        1) poor pre-saeason form defensively
        2) no De Geuye anymore.

I was think of swtiching to man city edserson and zinchenko.

But the problem this would leave me is
        1) Second gameweek v Spurs
        2) Used up man city quota - already have Bernardo Silva
        3) It then becaomes difficult to get other city options

I think I am better leaving it as it is with the double everton?

That could be an idea alright - losing a defensive mid who does most of the unseen work could wreck a team like everton.
B Silva I am kind of 50/50 he was only there because he could be good value - with great run of fixtures after gw3

It's funny how it goes. I am the same and I was all in at one stage.
But that Geuye and Zouma stuff has really changed things.
What are the other midfield options with decent fixtures around that price besides Bournemouth.
Brighton - Trossard, Watford - Pereya, the villa lads. man city is only B silva/D silva,
Will probably end up leaving Sigurdsson there because there is not an obvious better alternative.

At the back of my mind I feel I will see a lot of 'Toffees come unstuck' headlines.

Decent insight into Arsenal’s new signing:

22 goals last season - 9 from the penalty spot
        11 assists
Plays on the right and cuts in on his left foot - similar to Salah
Possible line up on the right as part of a 4-2-3-1 with Lacazette spearing and Aubameyang on the left(?!).

        Heaton (Pope)

It’s a tough one. I think anyone one of these has merit:

Ryan - fixtures, proven save points.
            Heaton - as above.
Henderson - 21 CS last season.
Pope - proven and save points. Monitor transfer merry-go-rounds.

Currently I’m on Heaton and Henderson

Kind of agree with above. I think the no Salah comment is based more on ownership and Kane struggling in August. Certainly not a bad template at all. I would say over the next 6 games I think you’ll get more from Salah. But Sterling, Salah and Kane in the same team is over a 3rd of your budget - I’m currently Kane-less.

            TAA/VVD/Zinc/coleman
            Sterling/Salah/Fraser/Grealish
            King/Vardy

            Dendoncker/Greenwood/Lunstram

Fraser and King too much? Pulisic for a gamble? Or other 7.5 or lower?

In my draft I have wilson king and fraser - so no fraser and King is not too much.
Bournemouth are playing the championship for two weeks.
If you want a punt at 7.5m Moura fits your criteria.

Which team is better? Experimenting with a few punts:

              1.
              Henderson – Button
              TAA – Zinchenko – Taylor(BUR) – Guilbert – Lundstram
              Salah – Sterling – Alli** – Maddison – Dendoncker
              Laca** – Barnes – Locadia**

              2.
              Henderson – Button
              TAA – Zinchenko – Taylor(BUR) – Guilbert – Lundstram
              Salah – Sterling – KDB** – Maddison – Dendoncker
              Haller** – Barnes – Deulo**

Pretty much Alli + Laca + Locadia vs. KDB + Haller + Deulo

Second for me. Alli has been struggling and don’t think Laca and locadia will be playing every week

Thoughts on Holebas? Had only 1 less goal involvement than Doherty and the same amount as pereira despite playing 800 less minutes. Great first four fixtures.
