How Liverpool’s key FPL assets compare ahead of 2019/20

With a week to go before Gameweek 1, five of the eight most-owned Fantasy Premier League assets are on Liverpool’s books.

The Reds’ players were a rich source of FPL points last season and there is optimism that they can replicate that in 2019/20, although we have had to swallow price rises with a number of their key Fantasy assets.

FPL managers will be especially keen on Liverpool in the first two months of the upcoming season, with the Reds sitting second on our Season Ticker in Gameweeks 1 to 8.

Can the Reds match their performance levels of 2018/19, though?

In our latest Numbers Game series, we assess Liverpool’s key underlying statistics from last season and highlight the numbers that matter to Fantasy bosses.

    A) Ake, Salah & Greenwood (bench)
    B) Zinc, KDB & 6.5 FOR (King, Deulo, Jota)

B with greater team flexibility. Salah v KDB the big question

Help me I cant decide between these two:
    A) play with 4-4-2 and have the likes of Dunk, Laporte, KDB and Doncker in a team that looks like this :
    Heaton
    VVD | Digne | Dunk | Laporte
    Salah | KDB | Perez | Pulisic
    Auba | Wilson
    or
    B) Twist it a little bit and play with 3-5-2 like this:
    Heaton
    VVD | Digne | Zinchenko
    Salah | BSilva | Perez | Fraser | Pulisic
    Auba | Wilson
Basically what I would be doing is downgrading Laporte and KDB to Zinch and BSilva to get to money to squeeze in Fraser ( or someone elso who gets it going and costs 7.5 ).
So what do you think ?

I’d try get Siggy into that midfield. Prefer him to Bsilva and Pulisic. Otherwise good. I’ve also gone Kane over Auba, but that’s just a personal preference and I see both doing well.

    Ederson
    TAA | VVD | Coleman | Rico
    Salah | Sterling | Barkley
    Kane | King | Adams

    Button | Gibson | Dendoncker | Leitner

Could go Ederson to Pope and Rico to Zinchenko/Stones but probably prefer Bournemouth rather than Burnley for the first 2 gws.
Is Greenwood a must for the bench ie. Avoid a 3 striker formation if so would probably ditch King for Perez, what are your thoughts?

First post in probably five years 🙂 Good to see the animal spirit growing here still!

Looking at FPL Paulius' 'A practical guide to finding undervalued players' based on some of Ludo's analysis, I have to say this apparent tamagochi & VLOOKUP inspired wizardry makes a few sweeping and potentially fatal assumptions..

What is Value? ....By definition Points Per Million must be the fundamental value consideration, in a game whose purpose is to obtain the maximum number of points from a limited budget.

Points Per Game is almost as lovably simplistic if you believe a certain player is likely to play more games (say as a result of having established themselves as a first team player), however this should only be done on an individual basis, not to compare large groups of players, which diminishes its value, as picking any one player means not picking all other options.

If you are targeting a steady team for the early weeks of the season, to prevent an enforced early wildcard (assuming this part of the game is the same!), or to run a ghost team - you want to know the players will start, and that if they do so and perform roughly as well as they have done in previous seasons, they should rack up roughly a certain number of points. Clearly this is impossible to know, but a players historical performance is the most certain indication we have of the metrics used to score FPL points.
Therefore, for established players only - usually the safer bets at the start of any FPL season (a logical assumption considering only a few players not starting or scoring as freely as they did against Accrington Stanley in pre-season is likely to trigger your Wildcard as the leaderboard becomes ever more distant), points per million is further an important indicator of value.

What's particularly interesting about running PPM analysis this season, vs when I last did many seasons ago, is that some of the higher value players actually come off as best value (likely to surprise FPL "you will always find that cheap players offer greater value than expensive ones" Paulius and many who get carried away in their analysis). This is particularly true for premium defenders and keepers.

For example Van Dijk, Robertson, Allison and Pickford who come out on top (and have favourable opening fixtures), offer over double the PPM of say Harry Kane (yes we imagine he will stay fit and consequently do better), and nearly the same over Aguero. You can also benefit from the stability of points defenders can offer (they cannot benefit from a hat-trick of clean sheets in any one game, but in this premium bracket are less likely to go on as dry a streak for clean sheets as a striker may for goals), which perhaps indicates a premium keeper and 3 premium defenders, is pretty much a fundamental must if planning for stability, to allow the early transfers to focus on obtaining the latest in-form players, rather than fire-fight ambitious choices.

Sure this is a very simplistic approach, but if you regard long-established players who have excellent PPM, and plum early fixtures, (Sigurdsson is 4th PPM Midfielder), perhaps this may aid the steady start desired for those managers hoping to maintain their endurance through the FPL season..

🙂 it looks pretty good to be fair, I'm not convinced by Barkley as I want to see Chelsea play under Lampard although they do have a number of potential great picks, eg Pulisic/Azpi, I have just taken Siggy out of my team as they seem to be drawing blanks in pre-season and it allows me to bolster my defence

Yeah I was happy barkley may have the space to become the next Hazard as was originally intended by his move, but him not starting their last pre-season match has me a little nervous.. I just want a team of steady eddies, metaphorical James Milners (though I don't have the space for him).

I'm pretty much the same, trying to avoid any punts and go for proven fpl picks who are 90% guaranteed starts, then pick out the value picks/punts over the coming weeks

Barkley does have good pre-season stats, will probably go without especially as they have utd away first up, but will monitor him (Chelsea also seem to have a plethora of options so need to be sure he's a starter)

lol, a team of James Milners, imagine that 😀

He's had a decent pre-season. My concern is he had a decent season under Benitez but prior to this he never really showed us nothing.

Is he a one season wonder (of sorts), possibly.

He managed 14 goals playing for a defensively minded Newcastle. Under Rodgers I fancy him to comfortably better this tally

was totally against murray, now for some reason thinking he might be worth a punt over those early fixtures - prefer Jota for example but he's playing in Armenia in Europa league, 3000 mile journey I think, then they have tough fixtures so a Murray punt could be mint!

Why is there no love for David Silva, he's never been cheaper and it looks like he will play big minutes again this season, as Sane is expected to join Bayern Munich. Also could Mahrez be a good option at 8.5 with Sane gone?

He's never been older. I'd expect his minutes to be managed more than in previous seasons.

Big minutes? He will play many less minutes with KDB back fully fit and firing. Sané has nothing to do with it and Mahrez remains a non-option. Favoured front 3 will again be B.Silva, Aguero, Sterling

      1. DIMITRIS

David Silva was never part of front three, he rather played in AMC position in 4-2-3-1 or alongside KDB and Fernandinho in 3-3-3. He will be rotated, but I think he'll play far more than Gundogan who's his main competitor for a spot in the team.

10 man draft league took place tonight. How do you think I did....

    Heaton Pope
    Robbo VVD Luiz Pereira Vertonghen
    Siggy Maddison Fraser Barkley Grealish
    Kun Tammy Adams

Realistically I think it's just the strikers I'm.disappointed with

not too bad for a 10 man, the attack is poor but aguero and rest of team makes up for it. I'd be just a tad disappointed about no big hitting midfielder but you got 5 guys there that will score a solid amount of points

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I am disappointed but everyone else has only 1 or 2 max captain options so I suppose we're all in the same boat.
I think as long as Tammy and Barkley start, I'll be strong. What's the odds though?

Rate the team plenty of players you can rotate depending on fixture, covering the majority the top attacking teams with the midfielders and forwards barring Liverpool although Robertson basically plays at a lw.
Personally I think Southampton will do really well since the new manager took over last season they were in top 6 form and they’ve added a proven goal scorer in Adams, saw a bit of him for Birmingham he looked like a tank.
Barkley is my pick this season for a cheap player who I think is gonna explode, not seen enough of Grealish to form a good judgement although people on here are bigging up villa ahead of the new season, and Obviously Kun has big potentially to haul against any side proven by hattricks against both Arsenal and Chelsea last season plus he is hunting down shearers record for a draft team I’d say 9/10

Any opinions on this team would be a big help
    4.5 (Button)
    VVD TAA Zinchenco (Taylor) (Lundstram)
    Salah Sterling Perez Barkley Mcginn
    Auba Ings (Greenwood)
I’m thinking of rotating McGinn and Taylor depending on the fixture
Undecided on a 4.5 goalkeeper looking at Heaton/Pope/Henderson
    Also Undecided Between Ings/Adams
I Think Southampton will play attacking football with a high press making their forwards good value
Barkley has really impressed me over pre season
Probably Keep Auba for the first two then move to Kane just really like Arsenal’s first two fixtures

Similar ideas to my draft league team (please rate above)
I went with a pope/Heston rotation which looks great on paper, just hoping pope plays!
Pool defence double up I think is really popular so lets just hope it all works out for us.
Love the Barkley punt, let's hope he plays. Rest of your midfield is dynamite. I went for the extra .5 and took Grealish over mcginn though.
Forwards are an interesting one, I dont trust ings to stay fit so I went with Adams, hes been good pre-season atleast

With Ings vs Adams, Ings has pens but will probably be subbed around the 70 min mark and is injury prone which could waste a transfer, I don’t really know much about villa although I’ve seen people taking up McGinn on here would need the extra 0.5 for all the others that I don’t have, Barkley is a complete punt just praying he can continue some form into the season and secure his place, I think he’ll only get better as he is learning from one of the greatest midfield goal scorers there has ever been

Ings xG/90 last season was 0.53 (better than King, Deulofeu, Jota...) - and he plays 2 former clubs in his first 2 games! I think he'll start the season hungry

Really like this - slightly concerned about McGinn's card-magnetism though, consider Robinson (Sheff Utd) as an alternative. If he starts the last friendly, he should start at Bournemouth, playing OOP as a forward, with a good scoring record for Preston last season and for us in pre-season so far.

My team's quite similar, but Perez + Sterling vs KDB + Vardy is something I keep toying with and I've not decided which I prefer yet... At the moment I've got KDB and Perez to help me afford Fraser where you have McGinn, not sure whether I'll stick or not

Choosing a Chelsea striker as your lone striker is asking for trouble I think - rotation risk all season long. Rest of the team looks really good though. I'd be tempted to drop Robertson to VVD and go for Haller up top - tough first fixture, but really good run after that, and being supplied by Anderson, Lanzini and Fornals should mean he grabs some good returns
