How Man City assets changed towards the end of 2018/19

Manchester City options are likely to form the bedrock of Fantasy Premier League teams again this season.

However, selecting the right ones might prove challenging in the early part of the season.

In this latest article, we take a look at how they performed last season and what trends were set at different stages of the campaign.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout members area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

How good is Aston Villa's defence?

    Best rotating GK with Pope?

Would personally avoid rotating keepers, however Heaton/Henderson if you do want to go down that route

John McGinn or Callum Robinson for my 5.5 or I could use other .5 to upgrade to a 6 but who better?

Robinson for me. The best ones for 6.0 are Barkley and Grealish imo but Robinson better to save that 0.5.

Who'll score more in the first 8 gws and what are your choices in those price brackets?

    A - VVD + 5m def + 6.5m for
    B - VVD + 5.5m mid + 6m for
    C - TAA + 4.5m def + 6.5m for

And how would VVD + Ibe + Wesley fare wrt above options. Can use those extra mil to upgrade Coleman and zinch or button

I quite like the idea of opting for Murray until a standout 6.5 emerges. 3 good fixtures for Brighton to start, and the new system looks fairly productive

None appeal, like st all really. Went down to Murray as he has a better potential than any of the 6.5s in his new system imo. 1 game a week will see him nailed, focal point of attacking side with penalties at 6m. Easy. Other than that try and make any 6.5s you have into Wilson imo

I've gone for King because I think Bournemouth are a good attacking side, I believe he's on pens (don't quote me on that) and I think he underperformed last year. Expecting more goals this year.

If you have two forwards, one of which is around 6.5-7m, isn't it almost always preferable to switch to a defender instead as their points ceiling is higher, e.g. a Van Dijk vs King...?

    1. Twisted Saltergater
      • 14 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Yes. The point at which you stop is when you have non playing 4.5m strikers and zero flexibility in your squad in terms of transfers.

Remember there are playing 4m defenders.

      1. Kobayashy
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

True, but the bench usually doesn't have a significant impact at this stage and there are some 4.5m forward options like Greenwood. Nothing that can't be resolved with 1 or 2FT if necessary.

    2. b91jh
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Not the case if u have to play a lone striker after switching a 6.5 slot to a defender, i.e. lack of flexibility/a spot wasted with no show from your lone striker

      1. Kobayashy
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I don't quite see your logic, surely if you have a no show from one striker, you have an extra chance at CS or attacking potential from the extra defender you switched to?

    3. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Isn’t it the other way round? Isn’t it that the point ceiling for the 6.5 is higher but they are simply unreliable and the VVDs will outpoint them in the long run through consistency.

Reliable long term points vs unreliable short term form and chance of hauls. Set and forget versus aggressive transfers

      1. Kobayashy
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I guess I'm referring to the 'longer term' points ceiling. The forwards will have their moments with the odd goal, assist or brace, but the defenders (at least the decent few in the 6-7m range) will do better due to added CS potential.

    4. Thomas Jerome Newton
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

I was going to go 5-4-1 instead of 4-4-2 for your reason stated. It made sense until I saw what was left on my bench.
      Sticking with 4-4-2 as a 4.5 defender a guaranteed starter on bench where's 4.5 fwd isn't.
If not worried about a bench then sure, go 5 at the back.

Similar team to mine, I’ve gone for both TAA & Robertson as not convinced on which lower priced strikers to go for, so invested in defence. I’ve gone for Sterling over KDB, not sure on Martial, all depends on what happens with the Dybala/Lukaku saga.

B personally but getting the right 6mil mid straight away is difficult. I’m going with Lamela first few weeks and then picture should be clearer

Mane returns to training Monday, do we think he will start next week? If not who do you think plays Origi or other?

      No
Probably Origi, but a poor FPL pick

Yes Klopp already mentioned that he's had 14 days rest and he looks after himself so he should be ready

If Klopp starts Mané on GW1 without a proper season, he’s panicking. Liverpool have Oxlade Chamberlain and Origi who can do a capable job for a week or two.

my BB GW1 dream is dying, how's this instead?

    Pope (Woodman)
    TAA Robbo VVD Zinchenko (Gibson)
    Sterling Moura Fraser Perez (Donck)
    (K)ane Wilson (Gallagher)

It's very good ..It's the worry of no Salah.. are you prepared to go without knowing how important a good start is and knowing he's the number one captain option most gws

yeah, I can wildcard if it looks like becoming a disaster - but he usually starts slowly AND the Kane/Sterling captaincy rotation is pretty epic, also neither of them had busy summers

I'm actually more concerned about Liverpool conceding in the first few games and ruining me than Salah doing so

Yer I don't think I could go 3 pool at back. I'm too cautious

So long as you have an exit plan then great but if Salah goes up .1 after gw 1 then you have a decision to make with that .1 being effectively .5 at the start. Big decision

yeah, could be nerve racking, but all 3 also capable of attacking returns - I'd commit to it until after GW3 at least I think, so wouldn't be too bothered about the .1

Is Perez & Tielemans double up a bad idea? (6.5m budget options are weak)

Looks fine to me. Both will provide good value. Easy to move to Barkley, Lanzini, Fornals, McGinn or Robinson if any emerge as genuine options

I have both and Vardy and I'm looking at my team making Minecraft villager noises thinking about it.

    OK I have something nice.

    - Optimal 4-man defence
    - 3xPool + 3xCity
    - Salah + Sterling
    - Good value picks in Wood + Perez + Barkley (I hope)

    Happy 😀

I’ve got coleman and Zinchenko in my team and have space for a 6m defender. Should I double up on city defenders and go walker or double up on Everton defenders and go Digne?
