Sitting bottom of our Season Ticker in the first ten Gameweeks of the season, Newcastle United and their players aren’t likely to be popular Fantasy choices when the 2019/20 campaign gets underway this week.
The departure of Rafael Benitez was seen as something of a hammer blow, too, given the widely held consensus that he overachieved with the squad of players at his disposal.
New head coach Steve Bruce has so far been savvy enough to (largely) stick with the same system and players that Benitez managed last season, replacing any departees rather than looking to move on the reliable club servants of 2018/19 – although Mike Ashley’s transfer policy is, of course, a contributing factor in that regard.
Benitez was at St James’ Park for over three years so his methods may still be in evidence going into the start of the new season, with a core group of his players (particularly in defence) remaining on the books.
An analysis of last season’s numbers is still relevant, then, so we will examine the Magpies’ key underlying stats to see how Bruce’s side may affect the Fantasy landscape in the early part of 2019/20.

I’ve had Kane in pretty much every draft since the game re-opened. I’m now starting to doubt Spurs given their injury list and lack of pre season form. What do peeps think about Kane’s prospects over the first few games?
Kane’s touch and goals have been great pre-season. Spurs are third best team in the league. I guess I’m not following where these thoughts are going. If I wasn’t going to pick Kane it would be cause I didn’t want big bucks up front, not because of Kane
Have you watched him play pre season? He is dropping very deep to collect the ball and looks a bit sluggish to me. For me, it’s about what I can do with the money across my squad. If I replace Kane with a mid price striker my entire team looks a lot better. I’m still unsure. I’ll sleep on it 🙂
First Timer Here! Thanks in advance . . . RMT with any upgrades. 1.5 in the Bank . . . Heaton / Pope (Rotation) Wan-B / VVD / Zin-O / Stevens (Lundstram) Salah / Sterling / Perez / McGinn (D-doncker) King / Aub-yang (Greenwood)
Crazy, 4 year member and this is your 1st post. How can Stevens / McGinn rotate if you are starting them both... Spend that money in the bank. You could strengthen Stevens, McGinn and King. Also £4.5m rotating GKs is a painful strategy destined for frustration.
Sorry for such a negative reply on your debut post but I can only give your team 5/10
