The impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has had on Southampton’s FPL assets

Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

    Vardy and Moura/Fraser

    Or

    Kane and 5.5m

    This decision is killing me!

It wouldn't be killing me because the first option is a no brainer. I would avoid Kane and prioritise Sterling and Salah as your heavy hitters.

Kane bags a brace home to Villa, quite easily done. People are ripping their teams up to get him in.

No they won't because they will see the gw2 fixture. Also Moura will get the haul 😉

Bournemouth easy fixtures make it harder to choose.

A if only 5.5 with Kane. If Perez(6.5) could be combined with Kane then of course B.

It's great if you can discipline yourself. The early weeks bring price rises thick and fast; any transfer you make is likely to have risen 0.1.

Irrelevant unless you have a week 2 transfer planned. Just pick the best team.

Great idea. When all the prices 'fit' in their 0.5 increments you have bought yourself some waiting time on players who may rise in price before the week is out.

Just put together a non template team with 3 United players (que the haters) & Aguero..

    Ryan, Button
WBS, Maguire, Dunk(if at Leicester), Kelly, (4m)
    Sterling, Salah, James, Barkley (Dendoncker)
Aguero(May have to hold off due to fitness), Haller, Jimenez

On the final tinker of my team. So:

Is KDB worth the 1.5 over Bilva?

If so - how to get him:

    A) Fraser > Barkley

    B) Digne > 4.5 (rotate with Dunk)

    C) Digne > KWP, downgrade Dunk (current on bench) to a 4.0

Opinions and why would be helpful!
