Which Watford players should FPL managers consider in 2019/20?

It’s as you were for Watford going into the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

At the time of writing and with just 24 hours before the transfer window closes, the Hornets had made only two first-team signings this summer – one of them Danny Welbeck.

Centre-half Craig Dawson (£5.0m) has arrived from West Bromwich Albion and he was the only player not on the books in 2018/19 who was involved in Watford’s final pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad last weekend.

Javi Gracia’s side are also set to be lining up in their familiar 4-2-2-2/4-4-2 shape, with the Watford boss having briefly experimented with a three-man backline in their penultimate friendly against QPR.

We can be fairly confident about the system and personnel going into Gameweek 1 and beyond, then, but what can Fantasy managers expect from Watford’s players this season and are they worthy of consideration?

        Azpi is a consistent 150+ points scorer every season. There is no current option at 6.5m in attack that I would be confident getting that score. Until then I am happy with Azpi (and he is likely to turn into a Chelsea cheaper nailed on defender when I know who one is and I want the cash).

          If you have 11 players getting 150 a year, you’ll score 1800 points. Which is poo. Even if you add an extra 100 points for Salah.

          Whilst the 6.5 strikers may only total 130-140 over the season, if you get the right ones at the right time and you score 200+ with them.

          It’s harder to do that with the defenders.

        He is the one I am considering but great fixtures after GW1. Nailed on. Can easily be traded out for some cash for a United or cheaper Chelsea defender.

      Ignore criticism

      This is a nice team. Auba is the one to be on in GW2 for sure and he has a good GW1 fixture.

      The big 3 isn’t sustainable beyond week 2 imo but there are clear ways to redistribute cash. Question is do you believe Salah Auba or Kane Sterling is the best combo going forward.

          Mo and Sterling aren’t necessarily season keepers. Perfectly reasonable to see them as a binary choice to allow a premium forward.

          (Mistaken notion imo that premium forwards are poor value. Case of causal oversimplification. They failed individually at different points last season but as a class they worked. I made two transfers and got 250 points from my premium forward slot. This season premium forwards are priced very attractively.

        Cheers mate. I think all four premium options will score similar points. But Salah is at his best wheb playing with Mane and Firmino. Neither of them have had much of a pre-season.

          That looks reasonable. Though Mo looked hot in CS. It’s the captaincy rotation that swings it for me as a decider.

          I think as a 2 week move Kane Auba can work with one of the big mids. Week 2 is problematic with Sterling Kane of course. One alternative is to Hokey Cokey them in 2/3 - that looks costly in transfers.

          That’s a reasonable theory.

          There are now only two premium mids (unless Mane comes to the fore) and three forwards. Pick and captain the right ones at the right time and you’ll do superb.

          Most think you need at least two of them at any one time, some think you can fit in three, some think you can get away with one.

          Everyone seems to think Sterling and Salah are the “correct” two to start with.

            3 premium players does make the rest of the team weaker, but it's an easy downgrade if a cheaper alternative pops up. I hope Salah does well for you, but not as well as my trio 😛
