How newly-promoted players performed in Gameweek 1

A number of newly-promoted players caught our attention in the opening weekend of Fantasy Premier League action.

Norwich City were thrashed 4-1 at Liverpool but still caused their illustrious hosts plenty of problems.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa proved a stiff test for Spurs on Saturday evening while Sheffield United were the first of last season’s promoted clubs to earn a point in 2019/20.

We’ve gone over the numbers to see which of their players could provide some value this season.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 campaign can access it in full.

    Hate the look of fraser/Trossard/Guilbert in the team 😕
    If Kane goes on a run of 1/2 goalscoring games i might have to WC to get him. Kind of worried with non-big hitters in the team atm

      Mate you have salah and steroids for captaincy. If you really want kane (next week), he’s a relatively easy upgrade from vardy (who’s still a good pick in his own right)

      I did Wood -> Pukki ...picked Wood because of a great pre-season but their fixtures keep getting tougher and Pukki is leathal, enough said!

    How does everyone feel about their teams with 2 premiums (11+)? 3?

    Currently have one (salah)- it was the only way I was happy with my starting 11- but of course last gw was gw of the heavy hitters

    Thoughts on my wc team with 1.0itb:

    Ryan (Pope)
    VVD, Digne, Maitland-Niles (Zinchenko, Lundstram)
    Salah, Sterling (c), Fraser, McGinn (Dendocker)
    C. Wilson, Jota, Pukki

    It's pretty flexible & allows me to play any formation.
    I have 1.0itb to bring in Martial or Rashford next week for Fraser or C. Wilson.
    I'm a bit nervous having 2 promoted players in McGinn & Pukki but they are rising in price & seem good picks & McGinn is the enabler.
    For my starting 11 is there anyone on my bench that you would play & who would you take out.
    Are there any other player options you would choose over my current players.

        I probably didn't need to. I scored 79 in gw1 which is ok but I wanted to move away from double Liv defense. I now have just 2 Pool so it gives me the option of getting Mane down the line.I had Greenwood as my 3rd striker & with MU looking great I didn''t want to waste a MU spot on Greenwood plus Pukki scored v Liverpool so it was the obvious move. I also wanted a 2nd playing gk so upgraded Button to Ryan. I also believe you get more benefit playing the wc early to bring in the form players & you get a nice points boost. I used it really late last year & I only ended up bringing in 2 players so I got no points boost at all.

      Nothing wrong with having Mcginn and Pukki, but I do not like the balance of your team. I would try to fit Auba in there that you can switch to Kane next week.

                Mane overpeformed last season and is bound to regress on his unsustainable shot to goal conversion. His 2018/2019 campaign is the outlier, whereas Kane is reliable af and if he plays 3000 minutes he could rival Salah

                  I’d have to disagree with your logic

                  There are several reasons mane outscored Kane by 70 points last year - one is that he played an extra 600 minutes/8 appearances... another is that he gets an extra point per goal.... another is that he gets points for clean sheets.... yet another is that he plays in a better attack etc

                  I’d personally be a little suprised if Kane outscored him...

                  Will Mane regress on his shots, his shots to goal conversion, or any other indirect statistics? Perhaps, perhaps not... but I wouldn’t get too fixated on a conversion ratio - above average players will always deviate from average - he may also improve on his quantity of shots for example which would offset or partially offset a deterioration in a conversion rate were it to transpire

                  But I would wager that on his direct statistics - I.e. FPL points - he isn’t regressing significantly for a season or two, given that he’s a good age/27, and has carved out a forward slot in one of the best attacks in world football - crucially, a slot for which he scores points as a midfielder 😉

                  Mane has been pretty much priced out of the game though - and Kane just can’t compete with Salah & Sterling over the longer term, so I’m not really a fan of either for FPL as things stand

    Hi All

    Had a decent start to the season (83) but I keep looking at my team for GW2 and can't help but think it's going to be a stinker. Current team is:

    Ryan
    AWB / Robertson / Coleman
    Sterling / Mo / Perez / Moura
    Jota / Vardy / King

    Button / Lundstram / Leitner / Diop

    Looked at Moura to Martial but waited too long and his price has gone up. King to Pukki is a consideration but hoping Howe goes with 2 up top this weekend instead of three and King benefits.

    I guess I really want to keep the transfer so I can upgrade Vardy to Kane at the expense of Moura next week.

    Any feedback appreciated. Would you stick this week or make a change?

                          12 games isnt a big enough sample size mate. And what were the other factors in those 12 games? What were the fixtures? Who else was injured? Unfortunately it doesn't work like that in football, you cant just say a CM was missing for 12 games and that's why a certain players performance went down. There are many other variables, Wilson might even not be at his sharpest those games or any other issue.

                              What I mean is, there could have been other variables apart from gosling that affected him in that period. And bournemoth have signed Billing in that position who is a good player as well.
