Scoutcast Episode 299 – Magic Potion

Norwich’s striker Teemu Pukki has given the Scoutcast crew, of Joe, Holly, and Luke, a welcome lift as they consider the key issues facing Fantasy managers ahead of Gameweek 4.

Just like the magic potion of strength that Asterix the Gaul’s village used to defeat the Romans, the five-goal Finn has helped ease away some of the worries of the previous Gameweek and the trials and tribulations that lie ahead.

The Canaries’ goalscoring hero has also helped embolden Luke to already deploy his Wildcard, with Holly and Joe considering using this chip as soon as next month’s international break

Sergio Aguero’s re-emergence as a captaincy option this weekend, with his rival for a starting berth, Gabriel Jesus, out injured, is among the discussions.

Spurs’ problems this season, as the north Londoners struggle with managing out-of-favour players and taking on supposed minnows like Newcastle, is another topic covered.

The community questions section of this week’s episode also focuses on 2019/20’s lack of clean sheets so far. Is the influx of new striking options like Pukki to blame?

Elsewhere, the crew reveal their Gameweek 4 teams in detail, there’s a celebrity rough-with-the-smooth candidate and David delivers a statement to the crew regarding last week’s heated discussions.

Finally, Joe takes his turn to unveil a differential player for the next four Gameweeks. Considering Pukki was a previous choice this season, the pressure is well and truly on.

If I were to use WC this week I would defo get Kun, but still it’s a nice team.

I probably would use it in your circumstances

I like most of the team except Wesley

Unpopular opinion: Wesley to Greenwood, keep the change ITB and play 3-5-2. Since this is an early wildcard, money ITB will give you high flexibility for later moves as you won't have to "raise" the funds from elsewhere in the team. Cantwell is the key to this, as he would most likely have been priced at 6.0 (Buendia) if FPL Towers knew he was going to be a staring winger at Norwich. This means it might be wise to view Cantwell as a severely underpriced 6.0 asset and make decisions based on this, like Wan-B last season... And Lundstram this season as well, I think

I also would advise against owning a Brighton defender between now and GW9. Mings feels easier to own due to fixtures, although he'd most likely be your first sub except on the few weeks you wouldn't want to play Cantwell, such as GWs 5 and 13

Money ITB could allow: Zinch to Mendy/VVD any time it becomes clear to make the switch; Mount to 7.0-7.5; Barnes/Pukki to Jimenez/Wilson. Just more flexibility while still having a strong starting XI and bench, imo

No. But just know it could very well backfire. Arsenal aren’t tight at the back, and won’t play defensive like Newcastle

neither are that impressive to be honest. Always felt they were very solid when Delph was playing there actually. I guess their offensive capabilities outweighs the negatives

City transformed defensively with Zinchenko in the team last season (4 goals conceded in 12 games or something like that). I'm sure there were other factors at play, but he tends to be more disciplined than Mendy and is very tidy on the ball which helps. I'm a big fan of him though, so maybe I'm just being biased.

Then Martial to Pepe in GW5, if he still isn't fit by then. The international break is a long time to recover from the type of injury where he was still walking on the pitch until the match ended

    A) Jota —> Haller
    B) Jota Siggy —> Wesley KDB (-4)

The hit and not sure on Wesley yet is the reason I’m wavering on B. If A, I could get KDB in for Sigurdsson next week by downgrading somewhere else. 1FT 1.6 ITB, thoughts appreciated!

    Pope 4.0

I would go B but I would rather have Jota over Wesley. Least you will have KDB

Back? He is injured. When he is fit he has so far only played 92 mins in 2 gw's.

Kun has 4 goals in 3 games. He doesn't need 90 min games.

            Last yr Kun scored:

..5 goals in the 3 games he played less than 80 mins in and......7 goals and 3 assists in the 6 games he played less than 67 mins in.

Yes! Considered this too but if Kane scores, Aguero's low ownership will mean I am hurt (unless Aguero scores too). Another factor is my rival this week in one of my H2H leagues has Aguero - the only differential to my team that I think can hurt me.

His 20 pointer against Newcastle a few years ago was in 65 minutes.

I had him for a fair stretch last season and he mostly played around 60-65 mins per match then and I still raked in the points

Rubbish! He will still play. Everybody says this every year and he is still first choice striker.

I got Aguero in place of Kane and will captain him. The assumption that he will not play after IB is irrelevant. I will assess after - afterwards his price seems easy switch to anyone really

Yes this is kind of what I think too. I still think he will play after the IB. The problem is, he is more expensive and the goals at City can come from a variety of players. Kane will probably be the one to get them at Spurs.

Yes, easy to transfer out at his price because he is so expensive but it just seems like a waste transferring Kane to Aguero and then Aguero back to Kane a couple of GWs later. I really am torn with this. I am not just being argumentative for the sake of it.

Spurs were very poor vs newc and if Poch keeps on freezing Eriksen out Kane is screwed

This^ Eriksen is so important to that team for creativity but I wonder if after the transfer deadline if he will start playing him again though. Newcastle defended deep but Arsenal will attack is the counter-argument. I think in all fairness, I will bring Aguero in because Brighton at home and Norwich with that defence followed by a Watford team who are not that good this year, also at home, are too tempting for a team banging in the goals currently.

              Kelly def Crys pal.

I dunno, maybe Salah back for Mane or Laporte in for Dunk.

If I get Barnes over Haller I can do both.

I am keeping Kane. I trust myself on why I picked him in the first place.

I didn’t pick him preseason for Newcastle United at home.

I prob won’t own him all season but I’m gonna keep the faith and keep him till I’m ready to switch

    Had a decent start, and while my initial thoughts were to hang onto WC I’m keen to get KDB and rather than hit here’s my WC thinking, current team followed by WC;

    Pope / Heaton
    Wan-Bisakka / Zinchenko / Rico / Robertson / Digne
    Sterling / Salah / Cabellos / Dendoncker / Martial
    Haller / Pukki / Jota

    Now the WC team;

    Pope / Button
    Wan-Bisakka / Zinchenko / Lundstram / PVA / Dunk
    Sterling / Salah / Cabellos / KDB / Mount
    Haller / Pukki / Wesley

    1. WC
    2. Stick
    3. Other transfer option

    Cheers

Close call. I like both. Would like Laporte, but Barnes look great value. Would like to "cover" the value attackers I like to see who's best long term, if that makes sense.

I still don't get why Lund was classified as a defender. Was there weed/alcohol in the office that day?

Could easily have been a 4.5m mid like D Luiz, as I'm told he usually played as a DM for Sheffield the few times he played...

Confuses me, but I'm a happy owner

Is this a good plan? Seems too much of a hit to me:

    GW4

    GW5

    Aguero + Maddison -> Salah + Barnes (-4)
