Lanzini can provide cheaper route into West Ham attack

Now that the first international break of the season is out of the way, it’s time to make those all-important FPL decisions once again.

Differentials continue to play a part in that as we prepare for Gameweek 5.

Last time out there was more success for this column as David Silva delivered the goods with two nifty assists in Manchester City’s win over Brighton for a 10-point haul.

Is there another player with his quality waiting to be snapped up? Here are three low-owned players worth considering for Gameweek 5…

Manuel Lanzini

Lanzini has been West Ham’s most creative player so far this season

Price: £6.5m

Ownership: 3.3%

GW5 Opponent: Aston Villa (A)

It is no coincidence that West Ham’s attack struggled at times last season with Manuel Lanzini (£6.5m) sidelined by a long-term injury.

Now fully fit, the Argentinian has started all four of the Hammers league games since August.

For players priced at £6.5m or less, Lanzini is ranked joint seventh for final third touches (85). Due to his involvement with set pieces, he also averages 27 minutes for every chance created, which at present is better than the likes of Mason Mount (36 minutes) and Todd Cantwell (44 minutes).

With Sébastian Haller in-form up top, the expectation is for Lanzini to potentially increase his output of assists.

But he’s also more than capable of scoring, having netted 19 Premier League goals during his first three seasons for West Ham.

Dare I say it, is he a bandwagon waiting to happen? His next opponents are an Aston Villa team that have only kept one clean sheet this season having conceded more shots than any other side so far.

West Ham will relish such an encounter considering their recent goal-scoring run and without a doubt, Lanzini should be key to their attack on Monday night.

Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min (right) has been an overlooked Spurs asset after the first four Gameweeks

Price: £9.5m

Ownership: 2.7%

GW5 Opponent: Crystal Palace (H)

It’s surprising to think that a player with 38 goals and 25 assists over the last three Premier League seasons is owned by only a handful of Fantasy managers right now.

Then again, Son Heung-min (£9.5m) was suspended for the first two games of the campaign.

Tottenham have had a mixed and unsettled start to 2019/20. Son’s absence did not prevent them from scoring goals in their opening two matches but they certainly missed his energy up top.

Since his return to first-team action, he has already registered eight shots on goal, four of which were on target.

Son’s assist in Gameweek 4, winning a penalty for his team, could be an indication of what is to come.

He hasn’t scored so far, but based on his pedigree it won’t be long until he finds the back of the net again.

Tottenham’s next Premier League opponents are Crystal Palace and Son has scored three goals in five competitive games against them.

Having said that, he was playing in a World Cup qualifier in Central Asia on Tuesday night which could put him at a slight risk of rotation for Gameweek 5.

After all, Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t been afraid on occasion to bench the South Korean immediately after previous international breaks.

That’s the only concern with buying Son right now. But can Tottenham afford any more slip-ups? If he’s fully fit I see no reason why he won’t start on Saturday.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings has two attacking returns to his name so far this season

Price: £6.0m

Ownership: 2.2%

GW5 Opponent: Sheffield United (A)

It’s fair to say that there’s not been a strong collective desire to buy Southampton’s players over the past two seasons.

They are no longer a source of reliable clean sheets and it has also been hard to trust their attacking assets either.

The Saints’ fixtures since August haven’t exactly helped their cause either, having faced Liverpool and Manchester United in short succession.

In spite of these challenges. Danny Ings (£6.0m) has scored a goal and chipped in with an assist.

The forward has started three games so far and for forwards priced at £6.0m or less he has played the fifth-highest amount of minutes since Gameweek 1.

Of course, Ings hasn’t been playing 90 minutes per game regularly since 2015 as a result of serious injuries and squad management.

But last season he averaged a Fantasy return (goal or assist) for every 165 minutes played. That’s fairly commendable for a cheap priced and low owned player.

Having said that, Che Adams will certainly give him competition up top, but he has yet to score or assist in the Premier League and has also missed more big chances than any other player so far.

Southampton next face a Sheffield United team that has conceded four goals in their last two games which bodes well for Ings as he seeks to add to his goal-scoring tally.

    Considering an 8 point hit:

    Laporte, Martial, Pulisic, King out
    Soyuncu, KdB, Ceballos, Haller in

Two injuries to deal with and don't really want to hold on to King much longer. And this lets me get KdB

      Any thoughts?

Or should I keep King/Pulisic for another week or so and move gradually?

If you think Ceballos with be a Prem player and not a EL player for Arsenal, then yes!

Don't need to play him for the next couple of games as my other defenders have better fixtures and he seems a good value option in a decent defence long term

    Evening gents,
On the WC with two questions
    1) any obvious errors?
    2) 6.8m available for a mid now Trossard is out... who gets the nod? Anyone better than James?

    Pope (4m)
VVD TAA Otamwndi (Kelly / Lundstram)
    Salah KDB 6.8m Cantwell (Hoyden)
    Aguero Pukki Abraham

    Thanks in advance.

      Considered Ceballos?
Arsenal/Spurs both have nice runs of fixtures coming up so might be worth considering how Son/Auba other cover could fit in.
Also check press conferences, Kelly may not play, and long term could lose his place with others coming back from injury.

Looking to replace Martial...best to just do a direct replacement with A for free or take a hit to get TAA in with B?

I think TAA could be a good option long term and the likelihood of returns against Newcastle this weekend are also high. 1FT, 0ITB.

    A) Martial > Mount/Lanzini/Ceballos
    B) Martial & AWB > Cantwell & TAA (-4) ...with a view to going Jota > Haller with the spare funds next GW

    Pope - Button
    AWB - VVD - Digne - Zinchenko - Lundstram
    Sterling (c) - KDB - Salah - Martial - Dendocker
    Pukki - Jota - Greenwood

I looked at it in detail earlier this week and whilst his consistency on the road has improved, it tends to be a single goal he scores. One exception last season was Fulham when he bagged an assist too.

He's world class and of course could rip it up against a weak Norwich defence, but triple captaining him with the possibility of rotation too, it's risky.

Appreciate your input mate for sure, you offer some good opinions on here, but I don't see it as risky as I feel the chip is very overrated on this site! What's it's true value in best case scenario 15-20 points on average? I know with Sterling last season I got 11 I think and was delighted as many spunked it off on a Sane 1 pointer!

If you had to choose one, which one would it be:

              A) TAA, Matip, Salah, Ayew
              B) TAA, Robertson, Vardy, Haller

              Thoughts appreciated.

On a WC. Have Nick Pope and thinking about moving Tom Heaton (4.5m) to a 4.0m bench GK. Who has a better chance of seeing minutes this season, Button or Stekelenburg?

it aint minutes youre after... it's not dropping .1.

def go with a 4mil sub GK. I went woodman as cant drop in value

Neither of them will see minutes unless their first choice keeper goes down. Plus you'll play Pope week in week out so don't even worry about it.

In the past I've opted for Stek, both of them only get a game if the 1st choice is out so go for the one with the better team in front of them.

Thanks, all. Now, do I bank the .5m or use it to move Montoya?

                  Current squad:
                  Pope/Stekelenburg
                  TAA/Montoya/Mings/Lundstram/Kelly

              Afternoon All,

Here's how I'm looking for this weekend.
              1 transfer made. 1.1 ITB.

              Heaton
              VVD - Robbo - Lundstram
              Salah(c) - KDB - D.Silva - Perez - Cantwell
              Kane - Barnes

              Pope - Emerson - GWood - Rico.

Really want to get Perez out but wondering if it's worth a hit to bring in a 7.3 mid??

Need some thought on whether to take a hit now or use my 2FTs next week:

              Ryan
              Robbo TAA Digne Zinchenko Lundstram
              Salah Sterling (C) Mount
              Pukki Haller

              Bench: Greenwood, Dendonker, Martial

              A) Save the FT, then next week Martial, Robbo > KDB & Pieters/Zouma
              B) Take the -4 hit now

Seems silly getting rid of Robbo at home to Newcastle, and really want to survive just one more week without KDB, but Norwich defensive is a shambles and can see City scoring 5. Thoughts?

Bernardo played 90 minutes twice aswell, who’s to say he wont be rested instead? Mahrez played international football miles away in Algeria, i bet he’s knackered, he might need resting aswell. Didn’t Zinchenko aswell? Im sure 90% of the man city squad player international minutes, he might rest them all and play the kids

How important is everyone rating spending in defence?

17/80 possible cleansheets so far this season I have a feeling they won't be that easy to come by..

The big team defences normally tighten up around xmas I think, so no need to go heavy in defence yet. Two out of TAA/Digne/Ota is enough at this point.

Well generally my defence is cheap. But TAA is the exception.
