Redmond returns for Southampton as Fraser benched again

Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond (£6.3m) is back in the starting line-up following injury.

He returns to the side just as Moussa Djenepo (£5.4m) drops out with a knock of his own.

It looks as if Redmond will sit next to Sofiane Boufal (£5.5m) in a central attacking midfield duo behind centre-forward Che Adams (£5.7m).

The return of Kevin Danso (£4.5m) will also be welcome news for Ralph Hasenhüttl, who was forced into playing a back-three with Djenepo as a wing-back in the win over Sheffield United.

Visitors Bournemouth have gone with a 4-4-2 formation which features Ryan Fraser (£7.3m) on the bench for a second match running.

On the flanks of midfield are Josh King (£6.3m) and Harry Wilson (£6.0m) while Callum Wilson (£7.8m) and Dominic Solanke (£5.4m) lead the line.

Also of note is another start at left-back for Diego Rico (£4.1m), who offers better value compared to the likes of Nathan Aké (£4.9m) and Steve Cook (£5.0m).

Southampton XI (4-3-2-1): Gunn; Danso, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Cédric; Højbjerg, Romeu, Ward-Prowse; Boufal, Redmond; Adams.

Bournemouth XI (4-4-2): Ramsdale; Rico, Aké, S Cook, Stacey; J King, Lerma, Billing, H Wilson; Solanke, C Wilson.

Surely does, a ball hitting a defender on the arm is not a penalty, but if the ball hits an attacker on the arm before he scores, then the goal is instantly disallowed.

In cricket they are not afraid by technology to hang umpires who get it wrong out to dry. Exact opposite with football

Too right. It should be about to correct decision not protecting egos. Rugby doesn't care either, nor NFL. Culture problem in soccer probably accounts for it.

      Cricket is an interesting comparison.

      Umpire's call for close decisions.

In pl though it seems to be umpire's call only when giving decisions denying an attacker.

tbf theres a hell of a lot more respect for cricket umpires tho.........you dont see players swamping and abusing a cricket umpire after a decision they didnt agree with.........maybe thats why football refs get more slack as its a harder more presssured environment

To sum it up in a soccer decisions like handballs and fouls or dives are so subjective I feel VAR cant help anyway its still a human decision in that area, unlike offside/line calls which work well

Why in other leagues referees go to the screen and see the replay and in England they do not? In Champions League they change their own decisions all the time... Or maybe English referees are infallible like the Pope?

Played my WC and took Salah, Sterling, Digne, VDD and Haller out amongst some dead wood. Very nervous about losing the two S (especially as I'll be at the City match tomorrow!) but thought the risk was worth it to switch to 3-4-3 with Tammy and Auba's fixtures and form. Just need Mane and Son to not be too far behind them. Have I been daft? On the plus side I've not taken any hits yet, have a good OR and if all goes Pete Tonge I can get Salah, Sterling and Haller back in with 3 transfers (subject to price changes!)

This is how it will look most weeks.

    Pope
    TAA / Ota / Soy
    Mane / KDB / Son / Mount
    Auba / Tammy / Pukki

    Button / Cantwell / Lund / Rico
