De Bruyne the top 10k favourite for Gameweek 10 captaincy

Kevin de Bruyne (£10.1m) proved to be the most popular captain among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers in Gameweek 10.

The Belgian was neck-and-neck with Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) in the latest Fantasy Football Scout poll – each player exchanging top-spot throughout the week.

In the end, Sterling just edged, finishing the build-up to Gameweek 10 with the support of 29.4% of voters, while de Bruyne had 28.7%.

However, the top 10k managers were considerably unequivocal in comparison, with the cheaper of the two players proving the more popular captain.

31% of managers inside the top 10k handed the armband to de Bruyne as Aston Villa prepare to come to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

By contrast, Sterling, who arguably carries a greater threat of rotation compared to the other headline Manchester City assets, was backed by just 21.6% at this level.

After proving a favourite of the top 10k in recent weeks, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) has dropped down to third place in the captaincy debate for managers at the top level.

That may have been influenced by his recent Gameweek 9 no show, although his 19.8% of captainers among the top 10k are probably encouraged by the fact that he’s had a rest in the last week and usually starts home matches.

Either way, we are expecting anyone who features from the beginning against Aston Villa to do well in Gameweek 10 – as those who read our recent Captain Sensible article will know.

In terms of the overall template in the top 10k, de Bruyne continues to consolidate his position as the most popular player.

His ownership at this level has now reached 77.4%, a gap of 11 percentage points compared to next most-fashionable John Lundstram (£4.6m).

Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) remains the most popular forward among the top 10k but Teemu Pukki (£7.0m) has dropped out of the top three.

He was in 38.3% of these squads for Gameweek 9 but has been replaced by Jamie Vardy (£9.1m), who contributed to a massive win at Southampton on Friday night.

Interestingly, Pukki and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) are still trusted by the wider world of FPL.

Also pertinent is the fact that de Bruyne is the third-most popular midfielder when the lower-ranked managers are taken into account.

Back to the top 10k, Aguero’s popularity has also dipped from 36.1% to 33.5% but he does face a favourable match-up this weekend.

Bournemouth appear to have been turned to for a source of budget defensive investment.

Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) was the fifth-most popular defender for Gameweek 9, but he has been replaced by Diego Rico (£4.2m) ahead of the Cherries trip to Watford.

Fantasy managers at the top level appear to be eyeing up Wolves’ favourable fixtures.

They face Newcastle this weekend, before travelling to Arsenal, hosting Aston Villa and facing Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Naturally, Liverpool and Manchester City are the teams using up most of the slots in squads among the top 10k.

However, Wolves are sat in second place with an average of 1.8 of their players in top 10k squads.

Finally, an update on the chip usage among managers at this level.

47.4% of these have now used their Wildcards, which understandably remains the most deployed of the chips.

The Triple Captain has been spent by 25.5%, 13.7% have used the Free Hit and 13.9% the Bench Boost.

SOU experts: any chance Hasenhüttl will be fired for this result?

Not an expert but the fans don't want him sacked, and I am sure the board don't either. The team needs to buck up their ideas but firing him would be mad.

Hassenhuttl is a bad manager. Underlying statistics are worse than Hughes both attacking and defensive.

A 7-point average swing is a bump in the road mate. It’s a long, long season. :).

It's a long season, no one gw will determine your season.

9-0 was rare and unexpected but Vardy getting points isn't - I owned him and I can honestly say I was never going to captain him over a Man City asset.

This is true, but being able to extend or catch a lead by such a swing in one week gives that sudden edge - not to mention building squad value boost.
They don't come round often so when they do you can't help but feel a lost opportunity has passed.

This is the problem. LEI Ownership/Effective Ownership is very low. Vardy is actually the most owned.

The ownership is not the end of the world. If Salah, Sterling, Tammy did this and you didn't own them, then we are talking about something completely different.

Gutted to have been 0.1 short of Vardy GW9 and gone with Wilson instead plus both main rivals in my mini league have him.

Question is do I pull the trigger on bringing him in tonight to avoid price rises?

    Thinking either
    A: Wilson/Salah > Vardy/Mane
    B: Wilson/Mount > Vardy/CHO
C: Any other suggestions with 2FT? (team below)
D: Wait and lose value/potential to do moves above

    Ryan/Button
    Robbo/Rico/Tomori/Lund/Soy
    Sterling(c)/KDB(v)/Salah/Mount/James
    Abraham/Wilson/Greenwood

I know it really does - but hard to ditch Salah, especially before they play on Sunday (the question is will Mane match him or will Salah punish me for getting rid)

If it makes any difference neither of the mini league rivals has Salah or Mane

Tricky. I think Salah marginally ahead over the LT, so maybe B. Can’t see much difference between Mount and CHO (and I have Mount!)

This is really tricky - I feel like waiting till after all the fixtures makes the decision easier but if I wait till after Liverpool play I could be priced out - atm I only have 0.3 spare after the move

Decision being forced by price rises

    A) Greenwood / Sterling / Dunk -> Vardy / B Silva / Rico (-4)

    B) Aguero / Kelly -> Vardy & TAA (free)

Yea it's not even the injuries, i'm just pretty sure something outrageous will happen tomorrow and all the best laid plans go t!ts up. Outrageous freak result today though and King out is the ticket regardless of what happens this week!

Did it in the end, sometimes just throwing it out there helps you make a decision

My rivals are riddled with Leicester lads, and here's me with Kdb, Salah and Sterling. None of which they have and they're smashing it!

      Need a comeback tomorrow!

Safe to do Wilson > Vardy before the rise or wait?

Good moves or too drastic? Connelly, Maddison & TAA to Vardy, Douglas Luiz & Chilwell (-4)

    Current team:

    Pope
    TAA Otamendi Soyuncu
    Mane Mount Sterling KDB Maddison
    Abraham Wilson

    Subs: Lundstrom, Rico, Connelly

      Incredibly drastic

After literally a full season of captain fails, I finally bag a haul. I meant to cousin de Bruyne instead as well lol. Bask in my jam

    Pick one to bring in:

    A) Lowton
    B) Lascelles
    C) Soyuncu

    Kane to Varsy
    Cantwell to Mount

    Yes or no?

    To enable the above:

    A) Kelly to 3.9m def (Reid)
    Or
    B) Pope to Heaton/4.5m or under keeper

    Thanks

In total the moves would be for -4

Can't you do the move without a -4?
e.g. Kane > Vardy and Cantwell to xxx?

        Cantwell to CHO?

If I did this I could in theory wait as CHO considerably cheaper than Mount. What do you reckon?
With current prices it's a midfielder max 6.7m

i'd be tempted to wait in that case
See how Mount and CHO play e.g. who is more dangerous etc. and who offers better value

Thanks mate, it's probably the most sensible, nobody else in that price bracket seems overly appealing either, except arguably Tielemans though he's 6.4 so leaves me just enough wiggle room even with price changes I think.
