Scoutcast Episode 307 – Learning from FPL mistakes

Making mistakes in Fantasy Premier League is the easy part.

Fantasy managers can do that on a weekly basis, from the wrong captaincy decision to disastrous bench selections.

The tricky part is learning from those errors and attempting to improve each Gameweek.

In this week’s Scoutcast episode, Joe is joined by Holly and FPL Family’s Lee for a soul-searching look ahead to Gameweek 12.

They consider some of the errors they’ve made this season and what they’ve learned from them.

Meanwhile, the community owns up to their own blunders. More of these can be found via Joe’s Tweet on the issue earlier in the week.

The Scoutcast crew also look at the Lord of FPL (aka Sheffield United star John Lundstram) and how he’s transformed the game this season.

With a fixture swing and questionable captaincy credentials, Manchester City and Liverpool assets also come under scrutiny.

Lee takes his turn to pick a differential, clean sheets get an airing and there’s a cavalcade of fireworks to contend with in this packed episode, that was recorded on November 5.

Finally, our podcast and video trio reveal their plans, including captaincy choices, for the next set of fixtures. Is this the week they finally learn from their mistakes?

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

Anyone considering getting Auba for Arsenal's nice 4-5 run of fixtures?

no way.. consider he doesnt usually play striker like last week (it was only cos pepe was out of the line up so they set up with 2 strikers)

I have him and won’t sell but I certainly wouldn’t buy when you can Vardy for way cheaper. A double up of those two could be nice tho given lack of performing premiums

Transferred him out already this week for Vardy.

1 return in 4 considering the fixtures he's just had, combined with Arsenal's form, was enough for me to go for Vardy.

He recently blanked vs SHU BOU and CRY, 3 in a row.

Vardy Abraham Jimenez all better picks, irrespective of price... and they happen to be less expensive.

      My answer is no.

How is Jiminez a better pick?

Love him but really. Auba has 9 attacking returns in 11 and an insane GI - he's just one attacking return off Mane and won the golden boot last time out.

It is nothing wrong to keep faith in Auba. People are overreacting, they talk about him like he is Ayew or someone. Ok he is pricey but thats because he is one of the best players in league. If Ars didn’t had him they would be in relegation zone

Have him for the whole time and keeping him. Ars are bad but I think he will do good, I am looking at pairing him with Party. potentially lethal combo

If Rash hits form it wouldn't even be a question but currently I need to see more from Utd and Kane just feels like a different player this year. Shame that Emery is lost, it Lacca Pepe and Auba could click for the run it can be fun with a lot of pts.

    Ramsdale (Ryan)

    Abraham, Vardy, Jiménez

              I'd rather Mousset than Ayew.

              https://hindumonkey.blogspot.com/2019/11/

AYEW (5.1 CRY) – A scruffy looking nerf herder of a football, how is it that Jordan Ayew manages to look like he’s just been picked up from the local park each match. I mean, he fundamentally has to wear the same clothes as everyone else, yet still manages to look like he’s dressed up for a bonfire night no matter the weather. He’s also about as much use as firework with no fuse and all. I mean… Ayew is a terrible footballer. Does any club have worst strikers than Crystal Palace? Imagine having to choose between Ayew and Benteke every week.

With Mount and Silva out I have 2 choices:

    1) Use my FT on DSilva for: a Leicester asset or McGinn

    2) Save FT and play 5 at the back, or 4 at the back and Cantwell.

    Backline is:
    Rico(new), TAA(MCI), Lund(tot), Soyuncu(ARS), Dunk(mun)

So 5 at the back or use my FT on a player that should be back after IB.

      Go Leicester from Dilva

All the sides in Europe have really heavy workloads after the IB with 7 games in 21 days or so. City will certainly rotate (inc KdB and Sterling probs) and it wouldn't surprise to see managed minutes anyway at Chelsea too.

Bonus of Leicester is not just that fixture run but they get more rest in between too.

Only ones nailed to start are Abraham and Kovacic this week (since Jorginho is suspended). The rest are all up in the air and its anybodys guess. Id personally guess the following team (Chelsea fan btw)

      Kepa
      Azpi Zouma Tomori Emerson
      Kovacic Kante
      Willian Pulisic CHO
      Abraham

definitely keep for now.. even if mounts injury is slight, i think he'd get rested (same ankle from last injury).. Im an ex physio actually.. i can tell you that if players are not given sufficient recovery time from ankle injuries, they will come back to ahunt them in bad ways.. thats probably what happened with his first ankle roll.. if you notice with this one, little contact but nothing to encourage that ankle rolling but mount rolled anyways.. shows weakness and that it hasnt recovered well from the last one.. my educated guess is that they give him the 3 weeks off before bringing him back.. his next tweak could be a lot worse.. if this isnt already.

Looks good to go for next few weeks. Cantwell the issue though, not likely to start. Id swap lowton to soyuncu and play 4 at the back. Lundstram is basically a 5th mid now, goal threat, good fixtures, im going 4-4-2 from now on but 4-3-3 also works

Bloody Donkey - remember some noob trying to persuade me in pre-season that he was good enough to play every game as a 3rd or 4th midfielder and he would get over 15 attacking returns this season 😆

OOP and playing number 9 for united so in theory should be good, the problem is united have no creativity so I’d have to agree he’s not the best asset

Historically his minutes have been sporadic, but his ppminute are usually right up there. Relatively nailed these days and oop. Fixtures make him a decent punt for now, but it is United after all.

Jimmy is clearly better value, but with the lack of in-form premium assets Auba might be one of the best premiums for the next 4-5

Can't remember when Arsenal did either.
Auba out wide gets fewer chances than Vardy
He is 11 mil compared to Jimi 7.2
      Arsenal are at sea politically.

Tbf Arsenal looks like scoring more than wolves in general but I hear ya buddy, even from wide he’s very effective and I already own Vardy and Tammy just not sure what to do about kun here.

        1. Eze Really?

Arsenal score 2 more league goals than Wolves this year. Wolves have scored more overall. Jimi is 4.8 mil cheaper and 5.9 cheaper than Kun. A lot of tom to play with in midfield.

    My team and its problems:
    Pope (Button)
TAA Robbo Lund (Soy Rico) (I have .9 on the bench too much)
Mane KDB Martial Mount* McGinn (Mount injury and McGinn wasted money on the bench)
    Vardy Jimi Abraham

I have Sterling at present but will do the move to Mane this or next week. Going to leave Mount and see a drop in real value.

Any ideas to tidy it up?

Martial last week but had him first 3 games. Mid playing No9 in average side at 7.5 ok.

Martial is definitely not for everyone
Has done well scoring a few goals but has yet collect any bonus points. Personally I’d rather save 1m and invest elsewhere.

Throwing out KDB and Cantwell for a hit, in order to switch to 3-4-3:

    Pope
    TAA, Lundstram, Rico (Tomori, Mings)
Salah, Sterling, XXX, YYY (Douglas Luiz)
    Vardy, Abraham, Jimenez

Which of these alternatives would you prefer, if Mount is ruled out this GW?

    A) Maddison & James
    B) Maddison & Tielemans
    C) Tielemans & Martial
    D) Save FT, mini WC during int break

I've played D'ish all year, but my rank is still around the 1M mark. Starting to get impatient...

with the number of options Lampard has, it would be a sin to play him.

He would also be sending all the wrong messages to the other players.

If I can bet on him not playing, I certainly would throw a grand right now.
