Three differential FPL forwards to consider ahead of Gameweek 13

With the final international break of the calendar year well and truly over, it’s time for us to turn our attention back to Fantasy Premier League.

In the previous Gameweek, we only saw one player with a double-digit ownership – Jamie Vardy (£9.6m) – to feature among the top five FPL points scorers of the round.

In fact, with the exception of Bernardo Silva (£7.9m), no other player from Manchester City or Liverpool featured in the top ten in terms of points.

This once again reinforces the importance of those plucky differentials, with two-thirds of this campaign now remaining. Here are three low-owned picks worth considering for Gameweek 13.

Gerard Deulofeu

Ownership: 2.6%
Price: £6.1m
Gameweek 13 fixture: Burnley (h)

It wasn’t long ago that Watford players were being avoided en masse. After their 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, the situation looked perilous.

However, in the past five Gameweeks, they’ve somehow mustered three draws and a win that puts them only three points away from 17th spot.

The defence has had a large part to play in their recent turnaround but Gerard Deulofeu’s (£6.1m) influence hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Having failed to score in the first ten games of the season, he has now registered two goals in his last two games.

In the last two Gameweeks, he was joint-third for final third touches and ranked second for penalty area touches among forwards priced at £6.5m or less. It’s clear that he’s getting in the right places and is finally being rewarded for his efforts.

Deulofeu scored ten league goals last season and he’s more than capable of matching or exceeding that tally this time around.

However, despite featuring in every Premier League game this season, he hasn’t always started or has been subbed off early, which is a minor concern. Indeed, he has only played three complete league matches since August.

The fact that Watford have only scored four goals in their last seven Premier League games also needs to be acknowledged.

However, Deulofeu is a key focal point of their attack and the Hornets depend on him for his creative output. Their next opponents are Burnley, who have the second-worst away record in the league and who have conceded 11 goals in six games, which should bode well for Deulofeu in his pursuit to make it three goals in as many matches.

Danny Ings

Ownership: 3.0%
Price: £6.0m

Gameweek 13 fixture: Arsenal (a)

Southampton are another team that have struggled in the league since August. Goals have been in short supply and the Saints have been prone to conceding at the other end, most notably seen with Leicester City’s 0-9 triumph at St. Mary’s.

Having said that, if there’s a flicker of hope in their team, look no further than Danny Ings (£6.0m). He’s quietly scored five goals this season – more than the likes of Raul Jimenez (four), Son Heung-min (three) and Kevin de Bruyne (two).

From an attacking returns perspective, Ings has been involved in 55% of Southampton’s goals since Gameweek 1, which is all the more remarkable when considering he’s only played a full match on two occasions.

Looking at sub-£6.0m forwards over the past six Gameweeks, Ings is ranked first for most goals scored, second for goal attempts and joint-second for big chances created. There’s a strong case to be made for his name in the third forward spot.

Of course, if we look closely, he’s only scored one goal in the past three games.

But I’ve got no doubt that he can benefit with the fixture run ahead. The Saints next face a demoralised Arsenal team with one win in their last five league games and with only two clean sheets this season, which provides Ings with another viable opportunity to add to his goal-scoring tally.

Alexandre Lacazette

Ownership: 1.7%
Price: £9.3m
Gameweek 13 fixture: Southampton (h)

There’s no doubt that the Gunners’ attack has been weakened without the regular appearances of Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m). The France international registered a respectable 25 Fantasy returns during the last campaign and much was expected of him again in 2019/20.

Unfortunately for Lacazette, injury meant that his opportunities have been largely limited since Gameweek 1.

But with Arsenal under pressure to deliver better results, he will be key in their pursuit for fourth spot. The fact that he has started their last three games and assisted twice shows that he is improving and getting back to his best.

The biggest concern with Lacazette is his expensive price tag, especially when considering that there are cheaper players like Raul Jimenez (£7.3m) and Tammy Abraham (£8.0m) that have been scoring regularly of late.

It can also be argued that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) is Arsenal’s main attacking outlet and is less likely of being rotated than Lacazette.

But if you want to capitalise on Arsenal’s good fixture run and can’t afford Aubameyang, then maybe Lacazette is an option for you.

Despite their shaky start to the season, Arsenal have scored 11 goals in six games at home. They can’t afford any more slip-ups if they are serious of finishing in a Champions League spot and it’s high time for players like Lacazette to prove their worth and pedigree.

I think Ayew as first sub with upcoming fixtures is fine. Don't fancy Rash until United can show some consistency of form, double United attach seems about much. I don't fancy Dele at all. Son, I'm tempted by but want to wait and see how Mou uses him and how much tracking back he's asked to do. Can see Kane benefitting, not sure if Son will yet.

I'm playing Mount over Lundy because (a) City are a shambles at the back without Laporte, (b) Mount has had most of his attacking returns away from home (c) Sheff U are forced to make changes at the back due to Henderson illegible to play against parent club, (d) I'm a Man United fan and fancy Martial and Rashford to fill their boots.

It’s basically sterling & bench fodder vs son & jiminez. If you captain sterling, then it’s a different comparison with your captain points.

You are applying this to one week in isolation though . Are you saying that by owning Sterling he has to be captained every week in which case by your theory you would get rid of Mane & KDB ?

Well, if sterling is someone you want to captain is the next few GWs, then don't get rid. But to me, mane and vardy would prolly be my go to captains for the next few GWs, so yes I would not get rid of Mane and KDB is not in the 12m premium range. My money will definitely be on son + jiminez to outscore sterling points easily over the next GW

Yes. That’s why double Liverpool defence is a nightmare. You have so many value picks in defence and could realistically play all of them every week.
You can’t bench Robbo or TAA. So you end up benching the likes of Mount. Urgh

That's not an issue of owning 2 Liverpool defenders though it's more one of the balance of the rest of the squad. He could still play Mount and Lundstram by benching Soy. Simple.

Cannot bench Soy due to overall ownership of Leicester defenders among top managers. Soy may seem benchable but those who spent money on Pereira or Chilwell will pay them and Leicester cleanie can cost your rank dearly. Same goes with Lundy/Henderson

Me too. I'll have benching headaches most weeks and I'll almost certainly end up missing out on points. However a strong GW18 team and Xmas period squad is what I'm aiming for. Heavy rotation hasn't really kicked in so we could start getting a lot of autosubs.

            a lot of autosubs i don´t think
that gameweek in midweek in beginning of december often gives some funny line ups, and the gameweek between boxing day and new years eve, but for me it is also about having good subs for injuries/suspensions and rotation in terms of freedom to pick what you think is the best for that week. I have always used that strategy in this time of year and served me well, alongside that i never miss a deadline etc. This also gives you much better room for saving transfers, even if you have an injury or two. If you suddenly needs to play Hayden or Dendoncker it is so much easier to just do a transfer to get someone more exciting but if you have Grealish then you don´t. That kind of thing.

I tend to agree. I'd rather be benching points every week than have 2 non-players and a semi-playing cheapie that I can't rely on (Cantwell maybe). If you are benching points then it shows that you've selected the right players anyway. As you say, when injuries start happening and suspensions start kicking in, plus playing every 3-4 days for the next 5 weeks, there will be inevitable turmoil in starting XI's and we will be digging deep in our benches.

With a bit of planning I plan to bench 2x Liverpool assets, have a strong XI and hopefully even the luxury of benching Soyuncu in GW18. However that's 6 GWs away and anything can happen in the meantime.

                yep, my sentiment exactly

looking to the same, but i might sell Pereira before gw18 to free up some funds and have no Lei def in that week. A lot of decent cheap picks in that week and also in holiday period that can be good.

Yeah I think there's definitely ground to be made that week. Currently 6 of my players are playing each other, Mount to Grealish would make 5. However most people are in the same boat, so a couple of relative differentials (Jimenez, Doherty, Zaha, PvA, Martial, Rashford, Grealish or McGinn) could really shoot you up the rankings.

Downgrade Firmino to Jimenez, that should leave you enough to upgrade a midfielder. Say hayden to McGinn or Tielemans. Or Downgrade KDB or Sterling to two solid midfield picks like Martial and Maddison.

Connoly won´t play and your bench is very thin

Brighton got some very nasty fixtures to come, i would perhaps lean towards just getting a cheap decent def this week to play either by taking Dunk out or upgrade Simpson, but the latter is a bit more complex as 4.3 def is not much to come by, you can of course just do Cantwell to someone 4.5 mid but not sure if that is much of a point really. You need to get more flexibility, Hayden/Connolly/Cantwell/Simpson and to an extent Dunk you will not away with in coming gameweeks, downgrading one of your premiums is needed as i see it

    Mornin' lads!

    Current team:

    Pope (Button)
TAA - Lundstram - Rico (Willems, Hanley*)
Sterling - KDB - Mount - Mané (Dendoncker)
    Vardy - Abraham - Connolly*

    * injured

Feel like my team is unbalanced and that I need to offload one big name to get two solid value picks.

Have 2.4m ITB. 1 FT. Can't think of anyone worthwile to get with that without a hit though..

Feel like I'm too invested in City with their current form and upcoming shedule, but wouldn't dream of going without any City asset.
So I was considering KDB to Richarlison (just for this GW, after that to Maddisson) and Martial for -4 hit.
Or maybe Sterling out instead of KDB?

    Any suggestions are welcome!

at the same time, is Mount ceiling that high this week? He could grab something but hardly more than 7. I´m currently playing janmaat and aurier over Mount, both defenders have decent cs chance and both good in bonus system which and attacking potential

...depends on the type of manager you are is right, for a safe manager it's not worth it as he could easily blank and then a safe manager would be upset over it!
But for me, a guy who captained 19 different players last season, Richarlison punt v Norwich is very exciting and if he blanks so be it 🙂

So this is my team at the moment:
    Ryan Heaton
    Robbo Soy Lundy Mings Rico
    Salah Sterling Youri Madders Cantwell
    Auba Tammy Wickham
1 FT, 0.2 in the bank

I'm not really sure how to go about improving the team. Auba to Vardy is the most straightforward transfer but I am captaining Auba this week at home to SOU. If he doesn't score though, he's out. And is it really worth keeping Sterling for want of owning a MCI player, or should I consider some of their cheaper options like KDB or one of the Silvas?

Still obviously waiting on the LIV injuries.

Firmino to Ings is a choice. Of course you can hold. Reassess after. Would Firmino, Cantwell and Mendy. The likes of Ings/Jimmy or even Kane might be tempting next gw.
Mendy to someone cheaper. Palace def might be it.
