How FPL transfers and chips will be affected by coronavirus suspension

The Premier League have released official confirmation of how Fantasy Premier League will operate over the next few weeks.

The top-flight of English football has been suspended until April 4 with all matches from Gameweeks 30 and 31 postponed from their original scheduled dates.

That decision was taken after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.3m) tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

With no matches between now and Gameweek 32, Fantasy managers had been wondering what this meant for their transfers, chips and other decisions made in the build-up to Gameweek 30.

The Premier League has now moved to answer all those questions.

You can read the information published on their site below:

What happens to Gameweek deadlines?

The deadlines for Gameweek 30 (Saturday, 14 March, 11:30 GMT) and Gameweek 31 (Friday, 20 March, 19:00 GMT) will remain at their scheduled times. Any activity managers undertake ahead of each deadline will apply to that Gameweek.

Given all fixtures have been postponed for these Gameweeks, managers will earn zero points for their players.

For managers who took a points hit for transfers, their Gameweek scores will reflect the points they lost.

What about Head-to-Head leagues?

In Head-to-Head league matches, if neither manager made transfers incurring points deductions that Gameweek then the matches will be drawn and managers will earn one point each.

What about the FPL Cup?

If both managers incurred no points hits through transfers, their scores will be zero and their FPL Cup match will be decided by a virtual coin toss.

What about transfers, Wildcards and chips?

Managers must also be aware that any transfers made, or Wildcards or chips played in a Gameweek where all the fixtures are postponed will not be reinstated.

Please note that managers can cancel any Triple Captain or Bench Boost chip they have played ahead of a Gameweek deadline. However, this does not apply to transfers they have made, or Wildcards or Free Hit chips played.

What happens to the postponed fixtures?

It is the Premier League’s intention to reschedule the postponed fixtures when it is safe to do so.

Points scored in these fixtures will apply to the Gameweek in which the fixtures are played and not to Gameweek 30 or Gameweek 31.

What happens next?

In this fast-moving environment, the Premier League will provide further updates when appropriate.

These are exceptional circumstances and we appreciate the understanding of FPL managers while the situation evolves.

It doesn't matter if Liverpool get the 6 points. They can not be champions unless everyone plays 38 games. Am I wrong?

P.s. Hope the season finishes and Liverpool do get crowned champs.

Wrong. City lose their next match this season will end in a draw at the top with 3 points. It will come down to GD.

They'll be crowned champions no matter what. It's not a question of maths, it's about what's right and fair.

So I guess the game is just an investment game for the next few weeks, right? Buy and sell players to try to gain value?

Not the topic for this forum but food for thought.
I am 64 years old so don't think of me as insensitive.
The World Health organisation hunger report states 891 million people are undernourished in this world. 15% of the world population.
A large portion of this number are children.
It is expected in the United states alone, the bill for testing the Corona virus is between $30 and $90 billion.
Indirect costs such as stock exchange crashes makes this number inconsequential.
Saving people from starvation costs less than testing for the virus never mind treating it.
95% of deaths from the virus are people over the age of 65 and mostly unhealthy.
Some people may say this is a culling process for an over populated planet hitting the less efficient part of the world community.
Is it not an idea to let it run its course and feed people rather; giving life to many who have hardly had one to this point.
It may sound callous but I for one would go with it.
At the moment it is hitting the wealthy so the pandemic has people working on it.

I just don’t get this stuff around transfers and deadlines.

I’ve got 2 FT. If I used them for GW30’s fixtures, after the deadline I’ll get another transfer, and the transfer made will physically take place for GW31 when the games are run, or not? Pls help.

    1. Dthinger
      • 3 Years

      Yes.

Just think of it as a regular blank GW, but every team has a blank. If you make tow transfers before the GW 30 deadline then those players will be in your team for GW 30 just like normal. They just won't earn you any points. Then you will get one FT for GW 31, just like normal.

But if you are on level points and have used less transfers then you go above the teams on the same points that have used more transfers so surely you would be better off not using the transfer.

That backline is pretty lackluster. Kompany ahead of Ferdinand is meh. I mean Kompany was a very good CB but still... Really no better LB than Zabaleta? Would honestly have Baines ahead of him.

        Hi TM

How does this affect LMS? Made 2 transfers for this week for a - 4. Would seem somewhat harsh to be eliminated for making a transfer with no games played :(.

Got 1FT so going to just leave it until we know if/when there will be a GW32. Hard to make transfers without knowing who’s playing.

And of course it goes without saying that this kind of chat is trivial at a time like this. But I get my news from news websites, TV and radio - and this is a place to forget about some of that grim reality. So let’s enjoy this site for what it is!

Hope you’re all safe and well.

My dad and I booked up for Leverkusen last week. Both hotel and airline (eurowings) have since offered to reschedule our bookings. It's not a refund (which we never expected to get) but at least we have a summer break in Cologne to look forward to.

FPL has lost all credibility here. People making transfers. What gameweek are you planning for?

Gw32? How do you know the game won't restart with gw30 or 31 ?

Why are they allowing transfers for gw30 and 31 when it could be played later in the season?

Personally I think it's all good and the season won't continue. Do people actually think the virus will disappear in 3,4 even 6 weeks time? According to the scientists the peak wouldn't have even hit by then so reality is all this planning is just pointless

FPL should have postponed the game and frozen it. Let people take time away, concentrate on the important that things in life. Instead it seems they want to revenue from hits on their website or continue the revenue streams

    Absolutely bizarre

    1. FOO FIGHTER
      2 months, 16 days ago

I mentioned earlier, all remaining GW's should be blanked on FPL.

      Until further notice added.

If the game gets postponed for a further few weeks after the suspension do they continue to let people make transfers?

All transfer plans people made planning for gw32 scrapped in that case. Just a mess and frankly unbelievable decision

To be fair it’s a game doesn’t matter what they do in terms of communication, revenue from website clicks etc it’s ok. Whether they communicate, freeze the site or whatever surely all rational people won’t care.

Why? If the loonies are still making transfers then let them but I agree it would have been better to freeze the game for time being.

If you only have the 1FT, does that mean the optimal play is roll this gw and make 1FT next gw?

Or should we make the transfer incase there is a glitch and fpl doesn't roll any transfers? :/

don't think you need to plan for a 'glitch'

      This is possible IMO:

      1) Postpone the Euros
      2) Pick up the existing season in July/August and finish it off in the normal timescale
      3) Have a pre-season
      4) Start a new league campaign in January 2021
      5) Finish up prior to World Cup in Qatar
      6) Extended break after World Cup and then hold Euros in Spring 2022
      7) New season from August 2022

        3) Have a pre-season
        4) Start a new league campaign in January 2021
        5) Finish up prior to end of year
        6) Start new season in Jan 2022
        7) Finish up prior to World Cup

Arteta and CHO testing positive for coronavirus has changed things in the UK. With people now seeing live cases of fit and healthy people who they thought were invincible getting it. Means more people are taking it seriously.

      nobody thought anyone is invincible.

Anyone can get it - pro athletes just have a much higher chance of beating the virus than the more vulnerable in society.

Have a look at comments sections of articles on websites such as BBC news, Daily Mail, Guardian. Around 10%/15% of comments on the sports articles are similar to "it is just like getting a cold, why are they postponing? get on with it"

I a not saying it is the majority, but those type of comments have fallen in proportion since yesterday. Even true of the radio stations like TalkSport, where they are taking it more seriously.

People always knew fit and young people could catch the virus. Your narrative about this is dumb. People's argument has always been that fit and young players are not under threat of dying from the virus. This is still true..

I think you underestimate the logic of some (not the majority) of people.

These are the same people who think you can take antibiotics to kill a virus (you can't in case you actually think that is true).

Football authorities in England and Europe are braced for a total shutdown of the game until at least September, amid fears that scores of clubs could go out of business and the sport could be sent into meltdown.

On the plus side I can move Martinelli for Nketiah for free with these transfers and have 2 waiting for when it all kicks off again.

But all in all the free transfers does level the playing field for early wildcarders vs those still with a wildcard to some extent. Wish I still had a WC left as it's priceless for when the season gets going again.
