Recapping the best Manchester United players ahead of FPL restart

Our series of team-by-team refresher articles continues with a look at Manchester United, as the clock ticks down on the Fantasy Premier League resumption in June.

Taking data from Gameweeks 24-29 as a jumping-off point for wider discussion, we will be analysing the Red Devils’ prospects for the season run-in and pinpointing the Fantasy assets who could prosper in the remaining nine Gameweeks.

United certainly have one of the more appealing fixture schedules in Gameweeks 30+ to 38+, playing only one of the ‘big six’ and half a dozen of the clubs currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

In decent form shortly before coronavirus stopped play, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will also welcome back Marcus Rashford (£8.8m) and Paul Pogba (£8.3m) from injury when we recommence this month.

With this article borrowing heavily from the data available in our Members Area, only subscribers of Fantasy Football Scout can read on.

I currently have Alonso in my BB team. I am wildcarding in 31+ and he is not in any of the drafts i have made.

Would you replace him on the BB? Have Doherty and Jiminez are my other SGW players.

    Up to 6.6m to replace

If you’re going to have a CHE this week on a BB, I’d have Tammy or Mount. I’d rather downgrade to a SHU def and use the cash elsewhere in your case.

Have 3 SHU and no room up top for.

Should have posted my team. Have 12DGWs

It could obviously work out if Alonso brings the magic. However it’s a lot of cash that could be spread elsewhere. I think I’d downgrade. Fernandez?

Current BB draft. Would WC in gw31.

      Hendo, Ramsdale
      O'Connell, Alonso, Trent, Saiss, Targett
      KDB, Grealish, Mount, Cantwell, Fleck
      Auba, Aguero, Lacazette

            Leno Fodder
            Boly Saiss Egan Fernandez Taylor
            Sterling KdB Bruno Grealish Fodder
            Aubameyang Vardy Jimenez

  3. Don Kloppeone

    Bottomed.

I think I’m happy with this BB team. What do you reckon, anything you’d change?

    0itb WC and FH intact

    Henderson, Leno
    TAA, Stevens, Baldock, Saiss, Lascelles
    KDB, Mahrez, Grealish, Mount, Cantwell
    Aguero, Auba, Jimi

Effectively a BB of Leno, Mount, Lascelles, Cantwell which I’m happy with and 10 DGWers.
I know Baldock could be Lunds but unsure if it’s worth the risk.

    Cheers

Like it a lot mate. We may have endless discussions around Pepe vs Mahrez and whether Grealish will deliver, but this side can score big

I’m not keen on the Pepe pick. But then again, I’m pretty prepared for Mahrez to disappoint me but I wasn’t willing to take the risk on Sterling for £3m extra out of my budget!

Let’s hope for the scoring big!

Barkley is likely to play the first match with Jorginho out.

Its a good team but personally holding off bb as there is no advantage in 30+ than any other week. Rather see how some players are doing then play the chip

There’s definitely an advantage this week but you’re right we have limited info.

I’m getting points from Leno (x2), Mount, Cantwell and Lascelles that I wouldn’t be getting otherwise so I think it’s worth it.

The main players I’d look to get back post this GW are Salah, Bruno and maybe Son/ Vardy. Beyond that, I could hold off the WC

You can use the unlimited transfers to create the optimum BB team, then WC GW31.

I can get 12 DGWers + keep Mane and TAA.

Question is would you really want to make a team with 12 dgw this coming gw?? I wouldn't with 3 from villa. And then the need to use a wc to fix the team straight away seems like a waste of a chip

True but this is probably the only DGW. The rewards could be high or just average, but you don't lose much.

There's only 9 GWs left, so hardly a waste of a chip. You can FH GW38 for teams with something to play for still.

My point is bb this week is just the same as bb in any other week. I intend to prossibly wc in 36 setting up for bb in 37 and as you say fh in 38

I think folks get a bit hypnotized by the DGW for BB. I think there are many single game week players in 30+ that will outscore DGW players...especially Villa. If Sheffield lose out on both clean sheets it could be a pretty low upside for those tripling. I built my squad over the break so I would like to keep value and have many of them back for upcoming game weeks. A squad with Salah, Aguero, KDB, Mahrez, Auba, Grealish, Alonso, Egan, Leno, Egan, O'Connell, Cantwell + bench fodder might beat a BB team in 30+.

BB actually looks better for my squad in 31+ as far as fixtures for my single week players.

this is my point exactly. There is no real advantage when your do your bb as you cannot maximise to full 15 players. If anything I think its a problem as people will load their team with dgw players and need to wc to get them out immediately.

              2. Don Kloppeone
                • 6 Years
                3 years, 9 months ago

This is likely to be the only DGW so there is a better chance of more overall points from your 15 than any other SGW. That’s the only reason really. I share your skepticism if someone is loading up on AVL defence or something though...

          2. Klaren
            • 6 Years
            3 years, 9 months ago

There is an advantage because even if you have less than 11 DGW players, there are more cheap options with higher points potential than usual (SHU, AV players) which helps you invest more in your bench.

    My current team:
    Pope Krul
Taa Awb Doherty - Egan Taylor
    Salah Kdb Bruno Doucure -Saka
    Auba Jota Dcl
I have no WC. Should I:

(A.) play my FH in GW30 (and then revert to this team for GW31).

(B.) BB in GW30 and treat the unlimited FTs as an extra WC and set my team up for the remainder of the season.

      • 6 Years

I think with no WC and a DGW this week I’d play FH and then use FTs and a hit or two over the next few to fix the issues in the team going forward.

Arsenal starters v Brentford tonight. Lost 2-3.

Leno; Bellerin, Mustafi, Mari, Tierney; Ceballos, Willock, Saka; Pepe, Nketiah, Aubameyang.

*** Need to see formation, Tierney and Saka starting. Conceding 3 against a Championship team does not scream solid defence!

Lacazette and Willock scorers. 4.7m Willock also scored against Charlton last game.

    a) Pukki (SOT)
    b) Samatta (SHU, CHE)

Currently on Pukki, he's one of my gems of the season. Don't expect Villa to score in either game really, but it's possible and the double is worth something. Don't really know anything about Samatta.

    Thoughts? Cheers.

Too pricyeggsinonebaskety. It's a word! Seriously though, spread the wealth around a bit. Aubameyang should get plenty of minutes, not sure if Lacazette will be close in minutes. Pepe, Grealish, Sharp, Samatta, other options to spread the risk a bit.

No real way of maximising to fully utilise the bb. Even though its a dgw you can't get 15 dgw players in and if you could it means 3 villa players which isn't appealing.

Hence imo its better to sit on the bb atm and see how it goes

Any better ideas than this on a FH

    Hendo
    TTA, Laporte, O'Connell, Baldock
    Salah, KDB, Grealish, McGinn
    Auba, Aguero

Toss the coin over Aguero or KDB as Captain.

Yeah, that's why I worry, I think he'll be wrapped in cotton wool until the CL, could play 60 x2 of course and get a CS in both but it's a risk, Ederson is the only other worthwhile pick from their defence I'd say. Could go Ederson and another Sheff Utd defender if you can afford?

True but the haul potential of Lund is always there if he does play enough, plus it'd be as third Sheff Utd defender, gotta think on it.

Pretty weak bench. Why not Leno instead of Patricio? I'd go Boly over Doherty and upgrade your Villa lads or Saka.

Who do you prefer for next 2 gws? (4.6 def max)

    A) Targett (shu CHE, new)

    B) Saiss (whu, BOU)

Keep in mind aston villa 1 cs in last 15 gws. Wolves 4 cs in last 5gws

    Rest of defence is

    Ederson Leno
    TAA Egan Basham Lascelles ______

Nice team for a bench boost. But benchboost is restricting your best 11 after GW30+, could go all in on fodder, a keeper and defender for 3.9 each, a fodder mid orDouglas Luiz doubler for 4.4m. Henderson won't play in GW31+, v United his parent club.

Thank your for your advice mate, my initial idea if I was to use this BB would be to immediately do Aguero and Sterling back to Salah and Rashford who are I my team already and then the week after I can do Grealish or McGinn to Martial or Richarlison, gw31 Wolves have a nice home match so double Wolves defence I’m happy with, Pukki is at home again, Man United are at home and I can play Leno as Henderson is unavailable too so I think my team would actually be well set?? Any thoughts??

Both good keepers but Leno has Arsenal defenders in front of him and Arteta will need time to improve their defence. I think you might be going too hard on DGW players and SU defence. It mightn't reflect in PL but Bundesliga return stats are saying CSs are down, the away advantage is diminished without home support. If Wolves and SU concede in GW30+ that's 1/3 of your BB down a good bit. Obviously I love The Doc but might be overpriced for his attacking returns. Saiss in there instead of him and Boly, plus Lascelles. Take out Lundstram, unreliable gametime for now. Leno to Button and upgrade McGinn or, if you have enough, McGinn to a 4. 3 M mid, Pukki to Aubameyang and TC him or Aguero, De Bruyne or Sterling. I think BB could leave you needing hits after that GW.

Great information there mate!! Thank you very much some really good points detailed. I just had a little tinker, having Sterling with Aguero/Aubameyang/KDB as well is difficult... for that slot I have a maximum of 9.9 to spend now if my squads like this which I had a play around with....
            Henderson/Pope
            TAA Saiss Egan Fernandez Lascelles
KDB Fernandes Grealish McGinn +mid upto 9.9
            Aguero Aubameyang Jiménez

Could be right mate, would only be no Salah for only this week, he comes straight back in the week after, and Aubameyang I may(or may not)just take the risk to go without, unsure about that one tho as of now.

Thinking of this for FH, still have BB, no WC

Managed to get a big 5 in, still 9 for the dgw
    4-4-2
    Leno

    Lascalles O’Connell Mings Egan

    KDB Sterling Mane Grealish

    Kun Aub

Rest are fodder. Haven’t confirm anything yet. Bit punty that lol

Like it. Mane will be a good differential with everyone dropping him and salah to pick up DGW players.

Not sure about villa defenders though, can't see anything better than 1 or 2 points. Lascelles probably a better option

Which combo is best for BB (missing players are the same in both teams)

Option 1 - all in double GW

Reina*, Saiss, Lascelles, Egan*, Sterling*, Mount, Cantwell, Auba*, Samatta*

Option 2 - spread the wealth

Guaita, Doherty, Baldock*, O'Connell*, Mahrez*, Pulisic, McGinn*, Tammy, Jimmy

Thoughts on this BB team? Would appreciate any input.

    Leno Henderson
    TAA Stevens Lundstram Doherty Targett
    KDB Sterling Grealish Mount Cantwell
    Aguero Samatta Jimenez

Lundstram will become O'Connell unless we get early team news and confirmation that he is starting vs Villa.
I'm undecided between Mount and Barnes.

Good shout on Lund. I think he's too risky, particularly with 5 subs available. Not sure about Target, you might be better off with a Newcastle defender or Saiss if you can squeeze him in.

Mount a decent option against a weak villa IMO

      1. Klaren
        • 6 Years

Thanks. Saiss was an option I considered but decided on Doherty instead and feel like a defensive double-up might be too much.

I agree Targett is the weakest link in the team and I don't expect a CS from him but hopeful for an attacking return, watched him a lot of times this season and really think that his stats don't reflect his attacking potential for fpl returns.

My concern with Mount is whether he plays in the deeper central midfielder role or further up. He got most of his returns when he was playing further up, will look for info on their friendlies to see if there is any indication.
