Fábio Borges wins inaugural Virtual FPL crown

Virtual FPL came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, with Fábio Borges – a name many of you will be familiar with from our Hall of Fame – clinching the inaugural title.

Ragabolly’s Fantasy management game launched way back on April 11 and has filled an FPL-shaped void for thousands of us over the last two months.

Gameweeks had been held four times a week until recently, when the pace was stepped up in order to complete this simulated season before the real-life version restarts on Wednesday.

Fábio, a long-time leader of the overall standings during the middle part of the campaign, reclaimed top spot on the final day, having gone into Gameweek 38 in third position.

Despite taking a hit and not using a chip, he leapfrogged Atticus Finch and Jürgen Clough to finish ten points clear of the chasing pack.

The decision to hand the armband to Anthony Martial proved to be a sage one, with the Frenchman racking up a 16-point haul.

Atticus, who had led the way in six of the preceding seven Gameweeks, finished in second despite the deployment of his Bench Boost chip.

The podium finishers above were the 1-2-3 in our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, too, with T Rev, Mr Hindsight, Merseyside is Blue and Joe Gumbie also featuring in both tables.

Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy finished top of the pile among the Mods and Cons, while the aforementioned Mr Hindsight was the winner of Greyhead‘s The Great and The Good league.

Not only that, Mr Hindsight won the final of the second vFPL Cup of the campaign.

For those that are interested: Liverpool won the Virtual FPL title on the very last day, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Aston Villa consigned to the drop.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Golden Boot winner, finishing on 32 goals.

A huge shout goes out to Ragabolly for all his hard work in creating and maintaining the game, as well as those who also contributed their free time to this incredible project – the likes of TopMarx, Hassanality and FPLHints, amongst others – since its launch.

        cheers Ragabolly for VFPL little bit gutted to miss out on a top 10 finish, mainly due to poor captain picks in the final few game weeks. Still pretty happy with my 17 place finish, was buzzing being top around game week 15.

      Thanks for the game Ragabolly,

      It was fun playing and a great substitute of the the real FPL during the weeks in isolation.

      I finished 4th overall, several bad captaincy choices deprived me of a podium finish, but still had a great time and cheered the virtual goals and assists all the way. 🙂

    Can I say a massive thank you to Ragabolly and his team for producing something to help get over the lack of FPL. It created much distraction from the troubles and was a lot of fun taking part........Well done to the top three, great ending drama on the last day.

      Also, Fabio Borges is a beast - he's 3rd in the FFS HoF (both career rankings and live rankings). His FPL finishes are amazing - he's improved in OR every season since he's started playing:

      95 in 18/19

      And he's not doing badly this season either - he's currently at 8531 with BB, WC#2 and FH left

        So if I FH this week, having not made a transfer yet, my team reverts back to the one it is today, not one I could potentially make with Unlimited FTs before hitting the FH button, right?

        So if I FH this week, I’d be left with this as no WC. Any ideas how it looks going forward and if I should save FH and just look to use the FTs this week?

        Hi guys,

        Help greatly appreciated! Like many others I had been making small changes over last 5 or 6 weeks to build up to Bench Boost. Am I right in assuming it's best to wait for a larger DGW for Bench Boost or could this be the best time? I've not kept very up-to-date on future fixtures.

        A is my current Team and B is proposed option.

            Cheers. Correct, no WC. Hmm I'm a bit torn - if I BB this GW then I'll want to get another x2 Villa and another x1 Arsenal and from GW32 I'm going to probably need to make 3 or 4 transfers and take some hits perhaps to fix the Team.

            If i use the free WC now to get the best GW31 Team before using FH to get the best DGW30 Team, doesn't that leave me in better stead? Although I would then miss out on the bench points this week.

          I really don't understand the McGinn love anyway. What do people expect? That he will play majority of 2 games within 4-5 days after being out for 6 months?

        Dean Smith on John McGinn: "If I've got any concerns it's the fact that he hasn't played for six months. The other players haven't played for 12-13 weeks. So we have to manage him appropriately after his injury and we will do so."
