Alli returns for Spurs as Bergwin drops to the bench

Dele Alli (£8.3m) is straight back in the Spurs line-up for Gameweek 31+ as Spurs host West Ham in a London derby.

The mid-priced midfielder missed Double Gameweek 30+ due to a social-media-related suspension but has no issues breaking back into Jose Mourinho’s team at the first time of asking.

Alli takes up the number 10 role, fulfilled by Erik Lamela (£5.7m) against Manchester United, hoping to get back to his pre-lockdown form, which yielded five attacking returns between Gameweeks 24 and 29.

The return of the England international sees Lamela drop to the bench, but Double Gameweek 30+ goalscorer Steven Bergwijn (£7.4m) suffers the same fate.

His wide-attacking midfield berth has been handed to the returning Lucas Moura (£7.1m), who missed the Manchester United game through injury.

While Alli poses some potential as a differential, the main Fantasy focus from this London derby will, of course, be on Son Heung-min (£9.7m).

The South Korean is owned by just 7.9% worldwide, but he still sits in 40% of squads inside the top 10,000 managers.

Furthermore, 6.7% of those at that level have handed him the armband for Gameweek 31+.

As ever, there is little interest in the West Ham assets, their 4-3-3 line-up probably more encouraging for the 6% invested in Serge Aurier (£4.9m) more than anything else.

Still without a recognised striker in the starting XI due to Sébastien Haller‘s (£6.8m) injury, David Moyes has named a front-three consisting of midfielders.

Pablo Fornals (£6.0m), typically deployed in the middle, sits on one side of Michail Antonio (£6.9m) with Jarrod Bowen (£6.4m) on the other.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski; Cresswell, Balbuena, Diop, Fredericks; Rice, Soucek, Noble; Fornals, Antonio, Bowen.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris; B Davies, D Sánchez, Dier, Aurier; Sissoko, Lo Celso; Son, Alli, Moura; Kane.

People trolling Son owners but it’s the fact it’s so minimal. It used to be the striker got a favourable decision to encourage goals. I mean it was his toe, hardly 1 metre!

If you wanna give this article a quick read it you'll see you're talking utter rubbish.

Just because you're constantly rambling on about something like a disgruntled child doesn't make you right.

We get it, you don't like VAR. But at least put a bit more effort in when trying to be knowledgeable about a subject. It's incredibly easy for anyone to do a quick internet search to challenge what you're saying.

        https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/3929823/how-var-decisions-have-affected-every-premier-league-club

Wonder what your reaction would be if VAR saves you some FPL points, or benefits the team you support. Hmm.

so 1.99m is fine? Moving the line does not change the marginal calls.

lol, why use the rules when you can reinvent them.

I think they should flip a coin at the start of the game and the losing side of the coin toss has to play the first half with the their boots on the wrong feet and the crossbar is raised by 2ft.

Yup. Six inches. That's a fair amount - I believe - for a linesman to be incorrect / not see / get wrong.

Likewise! But whether it's a foot (or 30cm) or 50cm, the important thing is to agree a decent margin. My previous post related to cricket and the fact they stick with the umpires decision of 'not out' if less than half the ball is still hitting the stumps. Six inches just seemed a sensible analogy. But maybe a foot / 30cm is better.

      1. You don't need VAR for a 2 metre offside. Don't be silly.
      2. Who measures the 2 metres? How accurate does that have to be? How would that be different to the current 'issue'?

      1. Sly Fly
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 10 months ago

The difference is - and ignoring the 2m distance - is that you're at least giving some margin for error. Currently there is none, and everyone complains that being "1mm" offside is unfair.

So if you allow for a margin, and for the sake of argument let's take my six inches above (wahey) there's less to be disappointed about if your six-and-a-bit-inches, or in metric system 16cm for example rather than 15cm. Can't complain if you're that far offside - or whatever further distance is agreed upon.

Hahah-I will never take your 6 inches.
The rule itself, is fine as is. Everyone knows where they're at. Offside is offside. The forward just needs to do their job and stay onside. This isn't new.
The process just needs to be quicker and slicker. It's fine in rugby, tennis, cricket.
          Football alway

*football always seems to lag behind other sports. Partly, I think, due to 'proper football men' talking heads riling the punters up, resisting change. Partly due to the toxic, negative atmosphere that seems to surround it.

Totally agree with you on all counts bar one or two things, and this is only for consideration.

Cricket and Tennis are stop-and-start games, so there's no real disadvantage in asking for a review / ball-tracker / hawkeye / whatever system they're using. Doesn't really halt the flow of the game.

Plus Cricket does, as previously mentioned, build in some allowance for an umpire error (when really close), which I'd like to see transferred across to Football.

Rugby, yes, agree completely. You still get the odd controversial decision but it's generally accepted by the masses.

But football is more flowing, and being "1mm offside" does introduce an element of "Really?" where we never previously had this. Replays on Match of the Day would be "That was too close to call" or similar. putting lines on the screen showing such close calls is soul-destroying in some cases. But if they were to draw a line along the defender which would automatically then produce a hatched six-inch (fnar) or twelve-inch / whatever zone of leeway it would definitely speed up those marginal offside calls. Very quickly. Just my thoughts after a bottle of wine. 🙂

I think the process just needs speeding up.
If it's unclear (eg '1mm'), the ref should go to a pitch-side monitor (like in the world cup?) and decide. Keeps a more relatable, visible, human element (VAR is still humans) and hopefully allows a bit of common sense.
Only used in goal scoring situations, so doesn't really slow down an already stopped game.
It just needs to be done better. Other countries have it and it's fine. As usual, the UK is lagging behind/resisting progess.
