Scoutcast Episode 341 – Final Day Planning

What is it like to be within a whisker of winning Fantasy Premier League? Joe and Az find out when they are joined by special guest Alexander (@TooGoodFPL), who is in third place and just nine points from the summit.

This latest Scoutcast episode devotes itself to planning for Gameweek 38, as this longest of campaigns draws to a close.

Alexander reveals what its like to be so high up the rankings and the players he is considering for the end of the season as he bids for the FPL crown. With chess champion Magnus Carlsen hot on his heels in fourth place and just 30 points separating the top 10, there is plenty for him to ponder ahead of Sunday’s matches.

There’s alot on the line for all managers too, be it overall rank, mini-league glory or just the chance to own David Silva before he departs the Premier League.

While Joe and Alexander don’t have a Free Hit to play they can at least dream and run through the players, who those lucky enough to still have that chip, could bring in.

Az is one of those lucky ones. But with a wealth of choice from the ranks of Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and more ,deploying this chip is no easy task.

Elsewhere, Joe laments on his poor post-lockdown Bench Boost strategy and there’s some Rough with the Smooth tales of woe and joy to look at.

On Monday July 27th at 8pm UK time the Scoutcast will return for one more time this campaign, to look at the highs and lows and lessons learned from this odd season. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of this and future live episodes.

The Scoutcast without Mark and Granville is like Top Gear without Clarkson and May.

But I think I might listen in to my 1st of the season whilst I walk the dog. One of those days!

LR always comes across as arrogant in his posts. But boy does the guy know how to play FPL so he probably deserves to be a little cocky

It’s really such a shame that Mark doesn’t have any involvement in FpL anymore.

Even just the occasional guest appearance on the scout cast would be great

Hi all. Trying to get a top 10k for the first time. Currently 9k and 4pts ahead of 10k, but FH is gone and only have 1FT.

    Team is:

    Patricio
    TAA, Doherty, Pieters
    Salah, KDB, Mahrez, Pulisic, Bruno
    Vardy, Rashford
    (Greenwood only active sub)

    Options are

    A) Bruno to Dilva for free
    B) Bruno, Vardy to Dilva, Kane for -4
    C) Bruno, Vardy, Mahrez to Silva, Nketiah, Sterling -8
    D) Bruno, Mahrez, Doherty to Dilva, Sterling, Branthwaite for -8

Am I right to go with option B?

TAA & Pulisic for sure - I’d also be tempted by a Leeds 4.5 if one turns up

Pope probably a season keeper - but we forget just how little points he returned at various stages - needs to be a real fire & forget (if Dyche doesn’t leave)

Salah - I’m not just as fussed on... KDB & Bruno might be better uses of the budget, with Puli & a cheapy

Up front - Ings, Jimmy, Utd strikers - there’ll be a few options there

So, Vardy is in the lead for the Golden Boot, with 23 goals.

Ings is the closest, 2 goals behind.

    Auba is next, 3 behind.

Salah and Sterling are 4 goals behind Vardy.

Realistically, Auba has to be the best choice to catch Vardy, given the quality of opponent and the fact he’s capable of hauling.

City and Liverpool could put 6 or 7 past Norwich and Newcastle but, can Raz or Salah get 4? City and Pool would have to basically go all out to make sure those two players scored all their goals.

I’m starting to think Auba may be the go to guy here for a TC, not Raz.

    Thoughts, people?

    1. TheDragon
      • 6 Years

Antonio got 4 against Norwich in 75 mins whilst playing for West Ham

If City as a team decided they wanted Sterling to get the golden boot then it could happen

I’m starting to do a bit of a U-turn on my FH and target teams/players with something to play for.

I actually expect a lot of rotation from Pool to give their bench playing time

Arteta said that they want to be fair to the league and put out a relatively strong team vs Watford for the sake of the competition. For me it shows Arsenals head isn’t in it . I honestly don’t trust Arsenal/Auba here

I actually do think Ings and Southampton will be motivated. Doubt Ings will be in this position again.

As far as City, there are other players looking to prove themselves to start vs Madrid (I.e. Mahrez, Jesus, and to a lesser extent D Silva). KBD and Sterling have personal goals but I’d argue the former three are just as motivated

Spurs have been erratic but they have Europa League to fight for and Man United obviously have CL as well as Chelsea. United attackers and Chelsea players still great picks imo.

Just my thoughts. Could be wrong!

    3. bench boost for every gamew…

Auba ever made a hattrick for Arsenal?

Ings is 2 away so could be possible but not likely

No chance in hell for Raz and Salah even with bad opponents

And, Vardy will score so he´l l be golden boot winner anyhow. Going for any of those you mention is likely to end well, they all want to end the season on a high no matter if they reach the gb or not.

A or B? My ML rival has TAA and Martial and I'm chasing (20 points behind)

    A) Robbo & Martial
    B) Pieters & Auba

Is this a G2G FH draft or too risky having no Martial, KDB or Mahrez? Wanted something a little different (but good not bad different!)

    Pope
    TAA, Laporte, Pieters
Salah, Sterling (C), Dilva, Antonio, Pulisic
    Kane, Ings
    (Martin) (Greenwood, Branthwaite, Simpson)

          Antonio vs Aurier ??

I like Aurier more this GW.

Added incentive of Tarkowski goal threat too

Kane recent hauls were lucky IMO. 2 goals from rebound.

Also think Son & Aurier will have field day vs both FB's.

There was a very good post.

Wondering if Jim isn’t better than Ings this week. Big difference in Wolves Chelsea rest periods. Also Doherty/Traore versus Alonso could lead to goals.

      SU are looking mean again.

I’m quietly confident (or maybe it’s just hopeful) of Jimmy getting joy against this Chelsea defence as well

54 goals conceded is shameful. Jim versus Kepa = only one winner

Off topic - Guys, I've never been to the UK personally but I keep hearing a lot about robberies and burglaries in Merseyside from my friends who've been there. Is it true that Liverpool area is infamous for things like that ?

No different to any big city in the UK, or the world for that matter. It's a regular occurrence in deprived areas. I've seen it happen a lot here in South London.

As the late, great Obi-Wan Kenobi once said when he was asked for his opinion on Liverpool:

“You will not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious”

Or come to think of it, maybe that was about Mos Eisley. But both are inhabited by pretty similar clientele in fairness.

This is absolutely true. It's also true for several also cities in England, but Liverpool definitely one of them.
