Aubameyang reclassified as midfielder for FPL 2020/21

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) has been reclassified as a midfielder for the 2020/21 season of Fantasy Premier League.

The change to his position comes after the Arsenal man spent much of 2019/20 operating on the left-flank of a front-three.

With Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mané (£12.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) all retaining their midfield classifications from fulfilling the same roles at their respective clubs, the game-makers at FPL Towers decided it was time to put Aubameyang in the same category.

It means a price hike of £1.1m on the Gabonese international’s final valuation from the end of 2019/20, which does make a lot of sense, all things considered.

In his new classification, Aubameyang will now get an additional one point for all of his goals and be rewarded for Arsenal’s clean sheets too. Considering he found the net 22 times last season and was present for 10 of the Gunners’ clean sheets, a similar level of performance this season could mean big things.

However, Fantasy managers are already wondering what to do with their £100.0m budget for 2020/21 considering the plethora of premium midfielders.

Salah, Mané, Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) will all set managers back at least £11.5m while Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) has joined the high-end premium bracket. And a reclassification for Aubameyang could also see Marcus Rashford join this group too, given his extensive time on the flanks of attacking midfield in 2019/20… Only time will tell.

    Value so far?

    TAA 7.5
    KDB 11.5
    Bruno 10.5
    Pulisic 8.5
    Soucek 5.0

An extra 0.5 each would surely have been fair - that quintet start to collect up a nice bit of value straight away, almost ~2.5m

Problem is they'll be in everyone's lineups

Well, maybe not KDB & Bruno tbf as the ceilings of the OOP mids will also be a big draw

I don't know what to make of Werner (& possibly Martial) at 9.5's though...

Ings will get you close to 200 points for 8.5...

I’m not so sure on Pulisic myself, he’ll be value at points throughout the season for sure though.

I also like Sterling at 11.5 alongside KDB, it’s not clear cut there for me.

Think Bruno is good value at 1m cheaper.

Ings will need to be at his best, even better to match last season. His history in FPL not that great but at 8.5 he probably shows the most value out of the fwds and probably will be in many teams.

Ings' history in FPL when he's been healthy has actually been generally very good, all the way back to the Burnley days

It's just he's had several bad injuries curtailing his pitch time

Big price tag compared to last season though - but the first week he scores & gets 3 baps in a 1-0 win or 1-1 draw it'll be "here we go again"

“... I don't know what to make of Werner (& possibly Martial) at 9.5's though...“. And this is the key imho. Mids are going to be easy; forwards not so much.

Ings popularity will be affected by Jimi and maybe even Martial's price if they come in at 8.5-9.5

IF both Ings and Jimi were 8.5, I'd prefer Jimi personally. Not sure I want either at that price though. Rather stack up Def and Mid.

I don’t think Pulisic is in that many teams. He didn’t do extremely well for his price last season. He had 2 good runs but he also had long runs of blanks. Also if they sign Haverfz, Lampard will still have to fit in his favourite player (Mount) somewhere in the team so he might not be nailed.

People are naming certs for their team or template picks without having seen the actual fixtures, one of the most decisive factors in the players we pick. Or indeed the full price list. Calm down, lads.

      FPL has two elements.

The first is picking those players who will score points over the longer term and are cheap (e.g. TAA, Vardy, KDB last season, but we have had Kane, Alli, Mahrez, AWB etc in prior years as well).

The second is picking those players who will score points over the shorter term and who offer good value because of their points potential in given fixtures.

Not the right way to do it. Gotta compare with players from his position. You would be surprised to know that Tarkowski's points per million wasn't that far off TAA's.

      1. goriuanx
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

And this isn't the right way either. TAA is more likely to be in your team for nearly the whole season as opposed to Tark, who probably isn't in your team for more than 6 weeks.

          • 7 Years

I was giving an example of defender vs defender to illustrate my point. Factoring what you said in as well, TAA is of course worth 2m more than Tarkowski. But this post comparing him to Auba seems to suggest that he should be 9m or something.

True, but picking out the next Tarkowski early will be difficult. TAA is such a safe bet to be the undisputed best defender in the game whereas it wouldn't be a surprise to see Auba comfortably beaten by Salah/Mane/KDB. It just feels to me like TAA will be in almost everyone's draft, but with the midfield alternatives we could see a lot of Auba exit plans early on.

And by "TAA will be in almost everyone's draft" I mean he'll stay in those drafts for a very long time (fixtures notwithstanding). Auba will be far more hit-and-miss IMO.

    6. Goonsquad245

It's relative to the alternatives in that position though as you have to have a certain number of players from each position. Expensive defenders become bad value at a much lower price than midfielders because of what cheaper alternatives in defense offer relative to their counterparts in midfield.

True, but going with someone like Soucek over Auba saves 7.0 whereas a 4.0 defender over TAA saves just 3.5. TAA is far closer to the price floor of his position so you wouldn't save that much.

FPL have created massive issues for themselves by their refusal to price Alonso above 7.0 after his 16/17 season and not moving Salah to the forward bracket after 17/18. Trent is a must own. Aubameyang moving to midfield is an utter abomination.

Appreciate we don't have the full picture but it feels like they are trying to force more squad diversity with lots of high priced premiums.
It'll be interesting to see what value there is to be had in the 7.5m range in the mids and 6.5m forwards

Kind of pointless putting together a team if we don’t know the fixtures in any case.

Out of interest which spot will willian take in the team? Could he take auba spot meaning auba might play as striker now. In that case he has more rotation risk with laca and Eddie?

Guessing TAA will feature in 99.9% of the teams in GW1. Maybe a record.

I presume you're not being literal, but yeah it could be pretty high.

I think 99.9% would be a record, yes.

Loads will be enticed by the idea of downgrading to cheapies with decent fixtures to fit in another auba/Rashford/sterling at midfield instead.

And VVD as the cheap option was the ownership king last time at a mill cheaper. that difference will still hold. Robbo might get squeezed this time I guess

depends on the price of the other Pool defenders, many will find the extra money in the bank more appealing than his attacking potential.

Why not 100% then? Who is the 0.1% not getting him if the other 99.9% are getting him? Are you in the 0.1%?

Tantrum. All I want to do is stay in my mom's basement and wait for FPL to launch and watch the Rocket this afternoon.

But I have to go out in the stupid sunshine and enjoy stupid fresh air and spend time with people not on a computer screen 😡

        1:15pm.

Helluva come back against Selby who accused Ronnie of being disrespectful for not playing safety escape shots properly.

12.0m too high for Auba even as a mid, no way he's the join best player in FPL. TAA at 7.5m keeps me in with a chance of doing this whoever (from GW2 or 3 onwards).

    4.5, (4.0)
    TAA, 2x 4.5m rotation pairs
    Salah, KDB, Bruno, Traore, Soucek
    Werner, 6.5 (4.5)

Remember Arsenal had Emery and chaos at the start of last season. Auba still delivered. Add him in as a mid and likely playing CF in a team with better attackers than last time...

      Think he’s worth the 12.

Prefer to get Doherty or second Liverpool defence ahead of Mo with a slightly different balance in midfield. Interesting point is though that we are both looking at non Liverpool triple ups - very tricky to do with both Bruno and KdB
