How Aubameyang compares to other FPL midfielders after positional change

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) will be a midfielder in Fantasy Premier League next season following the game’s relaunch.

The move comes about following Aubameyang’s half-season spell on the left flank, with Mikel Arteta’s appointment as Arsenal manager in December signalling a change of role for the Gabon international in the Gunners’ attack.

The reclassification further swells the premium options available to us in the middle of the park, with Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) also making the move to ‘FPL midfielder’ and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) rising considerably in price.

How does Aubameyang compare with the other heavy hitters after his positional switch, then?

Our Members article below delves into the data.

Cue Robertson goal and assist, being subbed at 88 mins. Liverpool concede at 90 mins and TAA gets booked.

Every preseason i decide about going big atb.

But as soon as game is launched there are 4.5m defenders tease me & i try to pick some attackers in 5-8m price range. 😕

I want to completely dump the midpriced attacking options except Greenwood & Soucek.

This is almost a mental block tbh. Robbo Doherty VVD comfortably outscore those 7/8/9 m attacker's from last 2 seasons .... Anyone else feeling same ??

Every season people start the game watching stats as a one big block and have this idea. We are not going to make dead teams though. TAA is locked in my team. After him I want some heavy hitters to midfield. Then it's time to tinker and calculate what I can afford if I have one expensive asset less.

        You're absolutely right mate.

But i really feel stupid after watching my rival last season going with Taa Robbo Salah KDB Jimenez throughout season & me changing things like a madman.

Might need to grow some balls & go triple pool + Vinaigre/Taylor rotation maybe for 4tg spot

It is simple if you could take emotion and impulse out of it.
Predict 160+ defenders and you can spend 6.5 on them.
In 3 weeks a pattern comes out for inexpensive gems.
Hinding mids who will give the same for less than 7.5 is hard.
Forwards usually come to light (Ings etc)
Any start delays throws a spanner in the works though.

Taking impulse out of it is exactly I want to do 😀

I remember last season swapping around turd like Wood DCL Vardy (half season) rashford instead of martial etc.

Basically having them at wrong time !

Nope. Never happening. This game isn't about raw points it's about being able to pivot to form players. Too much money at the back - no way to get the form players further up front.

But don't you think swapping around those cheaper attcaking options we spend too many FT's when these solid defender's can give is great returns after long term.

Why can't the swap to form players apply to defenders too?

Wolves have a good run of games and Jonny injured? Get Vinagre. Once that run ends, pivot to Saliba or Taylor for Burnleys nice fixtures. Clever swapping playing the fixtures for defenders can yield bigger returns off a 4.5m slot than just lumping 6.0m on Doherty and accepting whatever comes

Ings scored his points from 5.9 and Jim got his from 7.5 - there'll be more value I imagine in that range than the supermids who will simply match their price this time.

Also last season the value to be had in attack was not supermids but in the 9-9.5 range. Vardy and KdB were comfortably better options for value than any supermid.

I'll be getting a supermid or so but want to allow myself the chance to hit the value busting boys up top too.

      1. R.C
        • 6 Years

Which supermids do you have in mind right now?

          • 5 Years

          1 Uncertain

Pretty sure 11.5 KdB trumps 12.0 Auba but even then I'c ould go Auba on fixtures.

          2. Not a clue

And will keep secret to myself when I do have a clue!!!! 🙂

        Problem is identifying them.

Jimenez is there for 2 seasons now. Ings was a complete surprise. Can mitrovic bamford wood Armstrong ASM do it long term ??

Knowing my nature I'm very volatile and tend to swap players too much.

Hopefully you understand what I'm saying

        1. pingissimus
          • 5 Years
          3 years, 8 months ago

          100% understood

What I'm trying to decide is whether the smart play is to go Ings Jim for fair value and then move down when another option appears - pretty sure one will. They and Vardy are top of the value tree right now and beat the supermids - so money put there isn't bad money

            I agree with value part.

But © is a very very big issue here too. Having 2 good © options is something I want to follow this season too. Had so many © FAILS last season ....

            Tony KDB Salah/Auba

These 3 are looking like good options to me in isolation.

Currently on Tony Jimenez as attacking combo myself. United late start can be blessing in disguise 🙂

You can only play one captain at a time.

Most of my best captains were in 9.0 to 9.5 range. Will be quite prepared to simply to choose the captain from the best player in my team that week rather than transfer one in. Pretty much my approach last season. Got lucky of course but did well (585 points)

Psychologically it's easier when your captain fail wasn't a transfer fail too. 🙂

I'm on triple Reds. I tried adding Laporte but struggled to find the cash. Works beautifully with Garcia, 1m cheaper than Laporte and 0.5 cheaper than Ake. The half-million dollar question then is, who partners Laporte, Ake or Garcia. The former two are both left-footed and Garcia is right.

Is ASM at 5.5 a price drop? Seems like a bargain.

If, and it’s a big if, Newcastle actually secure a good centre forward or striker, ASM will be in my team all season. He can’t do it all alone though.

I’m a Newcastle fan and would advice against it, we will be very bad next season, should’ve finished bottom last season on xP. Maybe if we have a good run of fixtures it might be worth a punt. Would prefer Almiron too at the same price, more end product and less injury prone

Can't see us signing a striker unless we can unload one from Gayle/Muto, very likely to be a very quiet transfer window for NUFC with marquee signings likely to be loans or Jeff Hendrick.

We can't guarantee that though. But more importantly, for a team like Wolves, it would heavily depend on fixtures. If their first fixtures are Fulham and Brighton, for example, then he becomes a more attractive option.

Yes and no. Yes because he hasn’t won the champions league since Barca but no because he lasted a long time at Barca and managed to win for quite a few years there. He’s won the league wherever he has gone and has managed to make teams around city to up their games (look at how many points Liverpool had to get to come 2nd a couple of years ago). He’s very good but he needs to shake this champions league curse sooner rather than later

Good manager but definitely overrated in the way he is regarded among the world's best. I rate Klopp,Zidane,Simeone,Conte and Mourinho above him.

Haven't seen anything spectacular out of him since Barca days. At Bayen he failed since winning the league alone is not a success,it is a given. He was humiliated every year in CL.
At City he has done well in the league but failed again in CL. I'd like to see him manage a club that isn't head and shoulders above all others in the league in terms of quality and money. He has finally seen some competition domestically in the last 2 years from Liverpool. This season will be very interesting as I see Chelsea and Man Utd closing the gap as well.

So much value at Utd - it’s crazy

      - Greenwood as a mid & only 7.5 - could be a Delle Alli/Harry Kane/Gareth Bale type breakthrough season ahead
      - Rashford as a mid could be glorious
      - Martial only 9.0 (less points for goals & CS's, but baps will even out at least half of that deficit)
      - Bruno only 10.5 - probably good for 30+ returns easy, possibly 40+

Plus they're all going to have 2 extra games vs. most of their peers from GW3 onwards into the bargain

I think Greenwood looks way too cheap & Bruno was pre-designed as a perfect match for he FPL scoring system... but Rashford & Martial should also smash things to bits at times

        1. Potential Dallas OOP and a 4m defender so using two slots for that

Doherty doesn’t attack much when they play 5-2-3 and Vinagre for 4.5 is a better player in bps so highly likely to match or be close to him in total points till Jonny gets back.

Easily Robbo for me between the two.

Depending on Uniteds fixtures not bad but if they aren’t play gw1 then most of your midfield needs hooking out. Don’t like the premium def option but that’s just me (rather go 352 myself) Top 2 is good

On the deadline moving and people leaking teams - won’t those people just leak the news earlier? I always assumed they knew the lineups well in advance and just realised then just before the deadline. Clubs such as Leicester tell the players the day before the game who the lineup will be, so surely we’ll still get leaks?

    1. Goonsquad245
      • 8 Years

Two types of leakers. Club ITKs and people who work in the press etc. This kills the second cohort as they only get teams 10 min or so before everyone else

Team sheets aren't typed/printed until about 75 minutes before the game. Any leaked teamsheet you see before 90 minutes pre-match is fake (could be a good guess, but still fake), as the teamsheets wouldn't have existed yet

      1. Goonsquad245
        • 8 Years

You could still get nuggets of info from club ITKs though, but it’s much riskier and even if it’s right it’s still subject to change until teamsheets are announced

He looks a great option. Also looking at him but will likely go with ASM until that picture clears up.

If one of their currently priced 4.5 keepers become first choice, yes.

      Otherwise, absolutely not.

They’ll price Ramsdale higher than 4.5.

What’s everyone’s formation atm? Or common theme thoughout drafting? I’m liking 4-5-1

With 4-5-1 you can't use two 4.5 forwards, bench would be bad

Even if lone forward is Kane/Ings/Jimenez who will play every game if fit?

looks about right. not many forwards are priced above 10m coming from a foreign league

In other FPL season 9.5m for this striker sounds like a gift but this year it's strange bec fwds have very lower prices than normally

I'm scared of him. He could have another Aguero or Torres year 1.

The likes of VVD, TAA and Doherty are staring at me.

Combined price of 20m will get you 555 points when looking at this past season.

Could be more points this season. Average price of 6.7m and 185 points per player, damn!

I know i want Doherty in my team but cant fit him in at the moment but if fixtures are kind i will have to get him in. VVD i can do without out of the 3

Very strange that some would go Laporte over Doherty.

Laporte (when healthy) is an FPL Beast - 6 attacking returns & 20-ish cleansheets in 18/19 would be his natural level rather than the injury hit nightmare last season

He’s Peps Golden boy & Ake is cover rather than competition - look at how far City fell behind pool while Laporte was out - no coincidence

Wouldn’t read too much into last night either, it’ll be different gravy in the league

I think TAA has been effectively removed from any FPL conversation given his price - it’ll be very rare to see any sort of team without him

Add Robbo to that and see what that gets you?

    4. HurriKane

thing is at the start of season you want more money invested in attack which allows you to jump on early bandwagons

going heavy at the back at the start denies us the opportunity.

I think so yeah. Easier to shift money around without using a wildcard.

We have spoken before about this. I would tend to take out TAA from the equation as most will have him. There is value in high priced defenders as we all know, but the gems that appear and a realistic ceiling outside a few is well below 160. Everyone is going big in the mids but outside of captaincy, finding mid premium players (8 to 9.5) is important.

Say there is a 200pt gap in the top 10k, critical choices lie in captaincy, patience and the points the top players gain in defense.

I know I am simplifying it but the possibilities of Dunk/Lamptey/Saliba and promoted players are important too. Soucek, St Max are examples of good possible picks but it is key for ownership to be low initially.

    Draft #2

    McCarthy Meslier
    TAA AWB Saliba Taylor Johnson
    Salah KdB Rashford Foden ASM
    Martial Antonio Vassilev

Very set I think on Salah, KdB and TAA to start this season as the spine of the team.

Agree with the spine. Team looks good so far. No Aubameyang though and with him a mid and he will start every game virtually upfront or just left of striker, would you not be tempted?
