Can Soucek command a starting place in FPL squads this season?

Tomas Soucek (£5.0m) could compete with a number of mid-priced midfielders for a starting place in Fantasy Premier League teams this season.

The West Ham man finished the 2019/20 campaign in relatively encouraging form, scoring three times across the final nine Gameweeks and averaging 4.1 points per matches.

Those three strikes could easily have been added to as Soucek developed a real eye for shots during the Project Restart period.

A nailed-on route into West Ham’s midfield, the Czech Republic international could continue his assault on opposing goals in 2020/21, which makes him an interesting prospect compared the £4.5m assets and even some £5.5m options.

To assess his true Fantasy worth, we have examined Soucek’s underlying statistics from the final nine Gameweeks of 2019/20. As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

What is Soucek’s average position?

As long as their fixtures are good, it's not really stupid. You know the risk, defense and midfield will be compromised.

True. A lot will depend on fixtures but just wanted to know people's view on going with premium strikers. A lot of discussion has been around going with heavy midfield, based on last seasons points. Will it be the same this season? Especially when the price of premium strikers has dropped considerably?

I messed about with my team after seeing your post and came up with this:-

          McCarthy
          TAA Saliba Vinagre Williams
          KDB Soucek Salah
          Martial Kane Werner

          Nyland Romeu Stephens

Will you have a big hitting midfielder ?
Are you comfortable © one of them if no big midfielder ?
If yes, it's not stupid. Strikers are priced low to bring them back in play by FPL.

Having said that I'd be much comfortable © Salah KDB Bruno then those 3

A lot will depend on the fixtures, Amey, but I feel like strikers will have bigger say than last season. Considering they are nicely priced, just wondering how others are feeling about going with premium strikers.

*Giroud & Abraham combined for 23 goals (and a fair few assists) last season
*Werner is better than these 2
*Werner could also be on pens

The only way I see Werner not scoring 20+ goals is if he is heavily rotated with forementioned players or if he gets injured.

Don't think Lampard rotated his team much unless there were injuries.

Giroud will likely play club games and come in late in PL and Abraham probably to come late in cup games, or if they are chasing games.

Think if you go with him you need to start him most weeks so you don’t miss his goals. But we don’t start with enough data as to who is poor at defending set pieces at the start.

West Ham assets: GW30 of one season to GW8 of the next. Then sell

Their ability to be among the best in the league and then fall off a cliff, consistently, is amazing

I hope it changes this time

It’s a very tricky call, I think those that go with him may need to start him most weeks, whereas someone like Saint-Maximin can probably be sensibly benched in tough away trips and against the top 6.

This is a very good point.

As soon as the first attacking bandwagons emerge, it'll take willpower to not cash in on those defenders.

This is among the reasons I'm starting with more money further forward - to not give myself that decision,l of redistributing cash, and make it easier to move on to the bandwagons

With the fixtures out later today I've been trying to guess the rotating pairs .
      Man City /Man Utd
      Liverpool/Everton
      Spurs/Arsenal plus 2 of
      Wolves/Villa/West Brom should happen
Chelsea/Fulham & Leeds/Sheff Utd may happen due to how close they are to each other.
      This leaves
      Southampton/Brighton (a good defensive pair) &
Palace/West Ham again reasonably close to each other .
      Leaving
Newcastle/Burnley & Leicester one of which will rotate the unpaired West Midland team .
      What do you think ?

The top three are a given, the rest could be anything as geography has gone out the window in recent years. We had Newcastle / Brighton in 2018 !

        2019

        Leicester/Brighton
        Wolves/West Ham

        2018

No.. that's the thing, your 4th Mid could be say a 6.5 and get 200 points instead

The idea is to maximise points in the highest scoring slot i.e Mid and compromise at other places

Good early fixtures for West Ham would be very interesting

      Soucek, Antonio... maybe even Fredericks

Keep an eye on Ben Johnson (4m). I think Fredricks is currently first choice but Johnson has been top quality whenever played, offers more defensive stability than Fredricks.

        But its the WH defence.

They were saying don't play the first weekend yesterday, but that doesn't rule them out from playing midweek GW1.

Both Manchester clubs were knocked out of Europe last weekend, four weeks before the new campaign. It means, in theory, City could play on 15 September, with United in action the following night.

However, these dates clash with the EFL Cup second round, which Wolves are in after their failure to secure a top-six spot.

        - His manager's style of play
        - Lots of other shiny, well-priced midfield toys
        - Uninspiring form at the end of last year
At 9.0 he's an OK pick but you'll need to see the fixtures.

Son tends to take a while to get going and then flourishes in purple patches of decent fixtures. I will get at some point when these conditions are met.

Potentially going to be hard to avoid doing this. Making a team for GW1 and benching Utd/City players will likely result starting with a lot less points (but with a wildcard in hand). As always, depends on fixtures I suppose.

Another split week would make it interesting.

If we can have one split weekend, why not many. So your team is locked for the fixture, whenever it happens. Why did PL have to do it?
