Premier League fixture list published as Manchester clubs blank in Gameweek 1

The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

Also check out Porstmouth Bubblejet’s fine work in identifying the clubs that rotate home and away fixtures in 2020/21.

GW10 looks like the best week for WC. Insane fixture turn for City and Liverpool.

      For City yes

For Liverpool... Still really only WBA (GW15) as a stand out captaincy fixture from GW10-GW17 though

Main benefit for me is I switch from Doherty + Vinagre to Robbo + TAA (have 1 already, also +VVD?) to swap with the easy defensive fixtures. Captaincy depends on if Salah recovers his away form, it's a new season and he's certainly capable of it. I also figure I'll be captaining City mostly during the run, trying to hit the Aguero/Sterling explosive hauls that we'll inevitably be seeing.

Disagree on TAA based on fixtures against attacking teams. If Salah is essential why not Mane as well?

From memory, Salah beat Mane on various comparisons last season, so still has a big potential to outshine Mane.

I think Mane needed to be 11.5 to convince many to take him over Salah,

I listened to FML FPL last night & Walsh really went off the deep end about Werner

About how he should really be 11.5 instead of 9.5, how he'll possibly repeat what Salah did as a new 9.5, how he's going to break the game etc - was a bit OTT tbh

Don't see it myself - but might take a punt to see what all the fuss is about

Plenty of other good striker alternatives too though if you want to wait & see for a few weeks

We think very similarly, so I approve.

Diop with West Ham's fixtures doesn't appeal much... KWP or someone with a strong GW 1 fixture are preferable. Vinagre is great if he starts. That's a big if though... I like Justin for the start if Pereira is still out.

After the first few gameweeks I want to add more bulk into my midfield and maybe doing it week by week would be better. Also saves my wildcard for later when fixtures turn in favour for teams like Liverpool and City.

Trying to move Ziyech on but can't bring myself to. Part of the front three, on set pieces, world class creator and takes a ton of shots from range. Most importantly, has Brighton, Palace and West Brom in the first 4. Of course the risk is him not adapting but I'm willing to take it, especially looking at how insanely lethal Chelsea's attack is likely to be this season.

They say their price will be locked till they play

Not sure about that Holmes but hope you're right. Think prices are locked until GW1 starts and unlimited transfers are done. There will be a big jump in buys for both of them. I'm thinking of getting both for GW1 and the mighty McCarthy and Walker-Peters to sub in for them 🙂

Hoping that people just start with them instead

Not sure what my plan is just yet, they're not going to be in my team to begin with but how quickly and how I manage to jump on them is something I need to give more thought to

        Definitely ruling out wildcard

Liverpool-Leeds is Liverpool any good? Have been a while seeing them playing. Worth having somebody from Liverpool, Carragher still there?

Milan Baros is a snip and Riise at the back is a set piece merchant...

What chance of Henderson being loaned to Sheffield United again this season. Ramsdale's nowhere near as good as him and he won't get in many Southgate squads from the the United bench even if he's a better keeper than De Gea.

Didn't he already reject any idea of him returning on loan? I think he's staying to fight for de Gea's spot.

It's been decided. He doesn't go so the Ramsdale deal has been completed.

I know they signed Ramsdale. That's why I'm asking, even though he's not in FPL yet, should be 4.5m, lovely jubbly. But even if Henderson's not going back to Sheffield he could still go out on loan, though unlikely to a top 6 club, competition for United. Ideally they'd sell or loan De Gea and stop the ridiculous 'Can't bench him he's on huge money' argument. He should try earning that money and right now isn't doing do. For me Henderson is the best English goalie and United's best and should start.

Tough. I think both the Chelsea guys are pretty good deals. But I also prefer Kane to Son...

      Thoughts on this team:

      McCarthy(Martin)
      Tierney,Egan,TAA(Ferguson,Taylor)
      ASM,Salah,Auba,Soucek(Bissouma)
      Kane,Mitro,Werner

Very nice. Lovely balance. Not sure about Tierney's attacking threat though Arsenal defence has improved. Talked to a Celtic supporter who told me he was more encouraged to get forward in SPL though it's a lesser standard of football and Arsenal have more attacking options so he's less needed in an attacking role. Definitely he's a quality footballer. Maybe consider Vinagre, Saiss?

Thanks for the advice. Being an arsenal fan I've watched tierney play quite a bit and the signs are promising. He loves running down the flank can pair well with auba. He was able to get a few assists and a goal even though arteta played alot more defensive after lockdown. However I believe arteta will change his formation to 4-3-3 and play more attacking football once he gets the right signings.
I swapped vinagre for Egan because of the difficult fixtures he has very early on
The only issue I have with my squad is that soucek and ASM clash in the first gameweek. Im trying to look for a better option for soucek in that price range...have anyone in mind?
