Premier League fixture list published as Manchester clubs blank in Gameweek 1

The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Β£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

    McCarthy
    TAA Justin Vinagre Aurier
    Auba Salah Ziyech Soucek
    Kane Mitrovic

Thoughts on benching Greenwood first GW and paying 5.5 for Aurier?

A small hurdle to get over.
ManU and Citeh blank GW1 and have good fixtures thereafter.
With the likelihood of a minimum of 3 starters KDB Sterling and Martial how should my GW1 start?
Salah Auba and Werner? Then advice on the progress of getting those 3 back? Should I leave KDB or Martial benched or both?

I’m looking at benching two Manchester assets and swapping KDB for Mane for just one FT in GW2.

A reasonable call and then a decision on the bench choices thereafter?

GW1 side will be quite weak apart from the premiums that everyone else has. Normal bench will be:

          1) 4.5 def rotating with another 4.5 defender
          2) 4.0 def ideally playing GW1
          3) 4.5 forward burning away

As long as they get some minutes until the international break and don’t lose too much value they won’t matter too much.

Auba an obvious choice who will end up with a massive ownership GW1. I am thinking of hoping for a low scoring GW1 and sopha hiding with 20 mil on the bench.

I almost think it's worth having them on the bench. If someone like Che Adams bags a brace or Mitrovic looks in good form....you want to be able to get them in & not focus on your big hitters. It will mean a balanced quad is essential as you don't want utter dross starting GW1

      1. Eze Really?
        • 9 Years

My train of thought too. Auba easy to keep for 2 weeks as a captaincy option.
Spurs look good and I could go Kane for a while and sacrifice Werner or Martial.
Auba to KDB week 3 and Kane Werner or Martial if it seems worth it at the time.

Who do you think put a stop to United/City playing each other midweek in GW1?

    United being soft?
    City still rocked by Lyon?
PL dinosaurs in charge insisting the order of games must be random?
    Another club chipping in?

Fixtures perplexed me but this is the first draft I now like:

    Ryan

    TAA / Doherty / Vinagre / Saliva

    Salah / Auba / Mane / Armstrong

    Jimenez / Mitrovic

    ----
    Button / Ferguson / Gordon / Davis

    Potential early transfers:
    Auba > De Bruyne
    Mane > Greenwood
    Davis > Martial / Werner

    What am I missing?

West Ham have a terrible early run of tough fixtures but think Soucek is the sort of player who can pop up with a goal in those sorts of games where Moyes reverts to backs against the wall and set pieces.

How about this for your £4.5m defensive rotation?

      1) Start with CPL / NEW defenders
      2) GW6 switch NEW to AVL defender
      3) GW12 switch CPL to NEW defender
      4) GW15 switch AVL to BUR defender

First 17 GWs will give you:

SOU, BHA, EVE, BUR, BHA, LEE, SOU, LEE, BHA, NEW, NEW, WBA, BUR, FUL, CPL, SHU, FUL

Meets all of Hedge's criteria of avoiding the Top 8 and having home fixtures. Very little transfer cost too.

If you just want a set and forget, I think the best you can do for the first half of the season is CPL / NEW

Other than Burnley, all those defences with majority £4.5m defenders are crap.

Do you really trust Leeds, WBA, Fulham, Villa, Brighton etc?

People are saying Saliba, but is he nailed?
Justin at Leicester - Pereira is on his way back pretty soon. You might get a few GWs out of him but not many.
Wolves are looking to sign a LB to put Vinagre back on the bench.

Does Liverpool GW2 make Werner less of a GW1 pick?

37% ownership so far. But even if he hauls GW1, is his price going to rise by more than 0.1 ahead of Liverpool?

        Good point about counter attack

He's still up against the best defence in the league though

And with the new players not likely to have found their groove yet the last thing you want is to be up against VVD and Allison

Yeah it's a tough one. Despite their strong defence, remember the last time Chelsea played at Anfield...

That was in very different circumstances though.

Liverpool had league down up and defense went out the window

Feels like first few big clashes of the season are tight affairs (I have no data to back this up)

Who had the breakdown of Spurs Europa fixtures - do they have to play about 17 qualifying games in & around GW1/2?

That's effectively Saturday/Thursdays (altho' Saturdays might be shifted to Sundays).
Surely the kids will play the Caraboo games.

I'm looking at Kane and Son as placeholders so I'm hoping that's the case.

Matheurs Pereira seems like a very nice differential pick, West Brom face a lot of questionable defences in their first games

      Do tell...

I might make a few different variations. Make a GW3 wildcard one, and something that's a bit more balanced that doesn't require an early WC.

Actually think Liverpool have the best opening fixtures from an attacking viewpoint. Chelsea and Arsenal sandwiched between Leeds and Villa. Che & Ars are great fixtures for Liverpool, they'll score plenty

Chelsea’s defense at the Bridge actually improved a lot by the end of the season. They conceded one in their last 6 home games (and that was the insane KdB free kick)

I'm thinking about really attacking the first couple GWs and WCing early. Will want double United and at least KDB come GW3.

Not seeing many people with Kane, are people not impressed with the way he finished the season? Reasonable fixtures and good price if he can get anywhere near his “prime” numbers imo.

I'm looking at a set of tricky fixtures for both. I'm going to really take my times easing them in one by one, probably not starting before theInternational Break/TDD.

    What do you think?

    McCarhty/ Nylan
    Gomez, Digne, Vinagre, Dier/ Douglas
    Auba, Salah, Son, Ziyech/ Ritchie
    Vardy, Mitro/ Davies

    Is there balance or not...?
