Fantasy Football Scout to partner with Football Index for the 2020/21 season

Sponsored by Football Index

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce that we’ll be joining forces with Football Index in the upcoming season.

We’ll be producing weekly articles throughout 2020/21, while there will also be regular segments on our Scoutcast and plenty more coverage besides.

If you’re new to Football Index, think of it as a revolutionary betting platform that works a bit like a virtual stock market.

Similar to player prices in Fantasy Premier League, the aim is to bet on the future value of the players when the price is low and then sell on when the value is high – the key difference here being that traders can profit from their ability to spot a bargain who is about to hit the big-time.

Fantasy managers can use their expertise to anticipate the on-field success of their assets in question, with dividends awarded for goals, clean sheets, assists and a whole host of underlying stats, from shots on target and accurate crosses to aerial duels won and tackles.

This is where the data in our Premium Members Area can really come into its own and give Fantasy Football Scout subscribers the heads up on which players could prosper on match days.

But that’s not all: along the way, traders win media dividends for positive headlines written about their players, so it’s worth keeping an eye on off-the-field events as well.

Like all betting platforms, the rules are fairly straightforward, and the nuances become more familiar with time.

We’ll be back over the weekend with a more detailed guide on how to play Football Index but head over to their website now for more information and tips on how to turn Fantasy prowess into a successful portfolio.

And don’t forget: this is trading with real money, so always gamble responsibly.

Timothy Castagne to Leicester means Justin in threat

What's everyone's thoughts about the bench boost in GW1 strategy? I'm very tempted to do it, mostly because my ideal GW1BB team is very close to what I was tempted to start with anyway playing normally. Thus you could postpone the WC easily until GW4 if you'd like that, but WCing straight away for GW2 doesn't seem like a bad idea as the Manchester teams start the season and you can get very quickly on them and any other bandwagons.

Not necessarily true - there's a bed-in factor depending on how well he assimilates to training, strategy & team. He wouldn't be the first player to come to the PL on limited mins.

Unlimited shares per player - wouldn't that drive down the value of the original share purchases?

Is there the possibility of a stock-split in the future if the player is over-subscribed?

How do you figure that - How many calls do football sites get right at this game of chance? This isn't investing, it's gambling. Research before you invest or begin to gamble.

The bookie/house/index always need win because they have overhead and are not in the business of losing money. Therefore someone has to pay the overhead and margin or otherwise the business model is defunct. Someone has to pay, maybe that's you? 😉

Disclaimer - the below doesn't count as advice xD and I may be completely wrong on my understanding.
I have a friend who has very basic knowledge of football and has managed to do alright with this just being quick to generally promising players. I keep being told to get on it but personally have no interest and don't 'gamble'.

The way I understand it, the profit comes from the new investors, and then the new investors after that, loss of value in one player makes up the increase in value in another, but kind of seems 'pyramid schemey' and for all intents and purposes is classed as gambling for obvious reasons, but particularly for legal reasons.

It is like an equity market in clear ways but is nowhere nearly as efficient as one, so people who react fairly quickly to goals, transfer news etc. would be the ones to benefit at the expense of slower 'players'.

All I am saying here is that the marginal benefit of having membership may well be of greater value than £17.50, but of course depending on how much you put in, your analytical ability and luck.

Didn't expect I'd write that much but an interesting discussion in any case!

If you sell a player to another user then FI take 2% commission. This is where they make a fair bit of their money but also new shares in players (ie those bought from FI rather than another user) and new players added to the platform are pure profit for FI. I haven't seen the figures but I would imagine that between £1.5-2m was spent on Messi since the news broke about 10 days ago, obviously a special case but shows the potential of it.

As well as players going up in price and selling you also have a chance to win dividends for the best players every time there are eligible games on as well as having the most points from being mentioned in the media each day.

It can look like a pyramid scheme but the main thing for me is that every player has a value based on how likely they are to win dividends. Some players are perfectly suited for the performance side of things and can be found fairly cheap. I bought Hakan Calhanoglu during the Covid break and since then he's won me about 30% of my spend in dividends and I have the shares for over 2.5 years if I want them.

As you can probably tell I've been on a little while and absolutely love it, you have to have the mentality to ride out any dips and not panic etc. Personally think it has a lot of growth left in it, I don't know how many people on here have had a look at it but I know plenty of people who love and gamble on football and hardly anyone who is involved in FI.

You've added some good insights. The dividends have to come from somewhere as well though. I think the key thing is to recognise that it is a game, and like all gambling, money is at stake and needs to be managed responsibly.

I wouldn't ever advise people to use it for an investment vehicle, but can see where the fun lies. I should also backtrack a bit and apologise because I take back my advocating - there will inevitably be people who will suffer massively from losing out, just like with any sort of betting.

Of course, dividends are paid by money made from commissions and new player sales. There are plenty of people on There who aren't fussed by dividends and will pay a lot more in commission than they win back but will have made money buying cheap and selling at a profit, moving on to the next player. I think most are quite aware that it is gambling but I have a lot of confidence in it going forward. When there aren't many new users joining is when it will get harder to win as you're all competing against each other more, more like a betting exchange like Betfair. Also if you are rash or don't know what you're doing it is completely possible to lose money on there now, or at least have it tied up for a long time. As ever with gambling you don't get more than you can afford to lose.

Agree that you can't use it as an investment, it doesn't have anything like the security of banks/property etc but it is fun and you can make very good money on there, although I speak as someone who has now taken most of my own money out so have the benefit of playing with profit.

Well summarised I think - and agree it looks like it'll get much tighter when new membership rates slows down. Congrats on the profit though and enjoy 🙂

Yeah it'll get harder, I personally think we're a good way off that though and there's a big untapped market for it.

Really I would have thought FFS would tie in much better with Footstock as they have one day tournaments etc which is a lot more fantasy footbally and only deal with the Premier League, whereas FI include France, Germany, Italy and Spain as well.

Properly p*ssed off as usual about west ham's owners and their dreadful transfer approach too. Selling their brightest attacking talent (Diangana) to a bottom half rival is madness. Apparently the player and manager were not even aware when it was accepted.

    What about this draft?
    McCarthy
    Robertson- Egan - KWP
    ASM- Soucek- Salah- Son
    Brewster- Mitrovic- Werner

    Bench: Ramsdale- Branthwaite- Lamptey- Bruno

Got 3,5m in bank and planning to sell Salah or Son for KDB for GW2.

IMHO, Justin is not a good pick considering the weakness in LEI def, benching Greenwood is a no go with Sancho talks still on and Covid threat, JWP and Soucek is still question mark.

Chop off Salah to add Robbo / Doherty and Son might be better

Have you seen the video of Zophar's first draft? The discussion he and Andy had (on opposite sides of this question) was enlightening. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax9Sbm7uEaY)

Felt compelled to say something here. I know a few very clued in people that have used Fantasy Index.

The general consensus is not good. And that's an understatement.

The concept is very good and right up the street of the kind of stuff FPL addicts enjoy.

However the reality of the execution apparently leaves much to desire. I'm not saying people don't have good experiences. Thanks but no thanks.

i looked at it a few days ago, as you say my kind of thing, combines the fpl type aspect, along with a little speculative investment/gambling, but some of the features like the bonuses for media interest etc, and only paying dividends on certain points scoring criteria for like a month (presumably to encourage more player trading) seem a little gimmicky for my tastes , but i quite like the overall idea

    Front 3 of

    Werner Martial Ings

Is like multiple orgasms for your other half.

Make that Jimenez instead of Ings and we are talking 😉 Great front 3 nonetheless. What's the midfield like?

I’d say double up but feel Triple is a little to much although Everton do have a poor record in London.

          Will Mitchell definitely start?
Some really good picks but it’s like looking at an NFL studs and duds team. Not much middle ground.

How did you convince her in the end to give it a go? My wife's been saying for ages how if she was to play she would do better than me, but now that it's come to actually playing, she has lost interest... 😀

There was a work league and various people in it she wanted to beat. She came about 1m last year and wants to improve on that now. She’s learnt football really quickly in the 4 years we have been together but doesn’t quite get the nuance of FPL yet

I’m still on it but Soucek news was annoying. Swapped him for Saka. Am more determined to get BB played GW1 as I think the season will be more and more erratic with potential last minute withdrawals.
