Fantasy Football Scout to partner with Football Index for the 2020/21 season

Sponsored by Football Index

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce that we’ll be joining forces with Football Index in the upcoming season.

We’ll be producing weekly articles throughout 2020/21, while there will also be regular segments on our Scoutcast and plenty more coverage besides.

If you’re new to Football Index, think of it as a revolutionary betting platform that works a bit like a virtual stock market.

Similar to player prices in Fantasy Premier League, the aim is to bet on the future value of the players when the price is low and then sell on when the value is high – the key difference here being that traders can profit from their ability to spot a bargain who is about to hit the big-time.

Fantasy managers can use their expertise to anticipate the on-field success of their assets in question, with dividends awarded for goals, clean sheets, assists and a whole host of underlying stats, from shots on target and accurate crosses to aerial duels won and tackles.

This is where the data in our Premium Members Area can really come into its own and give Fantasy Football Scout subscribers the heads up on which players could prosper on match days.

But that’s not all: along the way, traders win media dividends for positive headlines written about their players, so it’s worth keeping an eye on off-the-field events as well.

Like all betting platforms, the rules are fairly straightforward, and the nuances become more familiar with time.

We’ll be back over the weekend with a more detailed guide on how to play Football Index but head over to their website now for more information and tips on how to turn Fantasy prowess into a successful portfolio.

And don’t forget: this is trading with real money, so always gamble responsibly.

How many premium attackers do you all have? (£9.0 and more)

Have had 3 ever since the game released.

(no I'm not anti-gambling I basically bet as a job but I don't to be part of promoting it, particularly to the fantasy football demographic)

Yeah, really disappointed too. The purity of fantasy sports is that they offer a pretty safe alternative to the highs and lows (ultimately lows for most people) of proper gambling. Exposing a largely paying community to this type of influence is hard to justify in my opinion. Really sad.

I've got probably the 3 most nailed defenders, I won't be needing my 4m defenders unless there's illness which I'd put down to bad luck TBH.

Well since already one of your players may miss out on GW1 due to illness, that "bad luck" part could be happening pretty often (to all of us)

Thoughts on Pool assets for the first 5 game weeks?

Salah looks a bit off the pace and despite his great record at Anfield, not sure he's the best captain pick for Gw1.

3 clean sheets in my opinion.

I think Keita starts GW1, which is good for Salah. He has looked poor though, but I don't read too much into pre season personally.

Not doubling on defence yet - think TAA at the back is enough balancing the risk/potential until we know they're clicking as usual again. Salah you feel may be an 'I'll do it on the day' kind of player. We know he has the upside potential and I'll have him in at least until I can have City/United premiums playing

My thinking behind Liverpool double defence is pretty simple really

            - Set and forget
            - They'll outscore similarly priced players in midfield and attack
            - Different points avenues; 15 clean sheets last season iirc (mainly due to Adrian imo) and yet they scored very well because of their attacking returns.
            - TAA's ownership where it matters will mean you'll need x2 Liverpool defenders to benefit from a CS

            1. A-L

You make good sense here but the form from last season wasn't such that you'll pick up a clean sheet 3 out of 5 weeks. We had something like 10 games in a row without a CS and then 10 games with a CS (not exactly but you see my point).

I'm thinking with the way last season ended and the lack of encouragement preseason, I'd prefer to wait until I have confidence they have consistency back. As a Liverpool supporter, I also had TAA and VVD in my draft teams for a bit before I changed my mind though

3 in 5 is the level of the season before last. My point is that even if they replicated last season defensively, which was underwhelming CS wise, they'll still be the highest scoring defenders and still outscore their counterparts in MF and ATT.

For attacking returns, better mids/fwds will inevitably emerge at that price point. But you're talking me into it actually - as we don't know who those players are at the moment, LIV defenders probably offer the best attacking threat where we know what we'll get.

I don't think 3 in 5 CS to start the season is realistic given the above, especially with some tough fixtures. But a good chance that LIV defence will start picking up CSs by the time those value mid/fwd picks emerge so could be a decent strategy

Everyone is trying to be clever but the no Manc's in gw1 scenario is unprecedented and really can't be planned for. Stop trying to be clever and do what you have to do. Field your best 11 in gw1 and WC in gw2. It's a no brainer.

I personally think it might be best to hold the wildcard as long as possible this year. There looks like there could be doubles / blanks earlier than usual plus more condensed fixtures meaning greater rotation so I don’t want to burn a wildcard in week 2.

I’m planning on starting Greenwood on bench then using transfers to get City / Utd players when I want them. Will only use wildcard if having a nightmare.

In my opinion, playing GW2 wildcard in potentially corona hampered season is just playing with the season-end devil. You may need another one as soon as GW5.
Wildcard so early is risky even in normal season, but for this upcoming one there is just abnormal amount of uncerainties for me to even consider that option.

GW 2 - Son and Ings ➡️ Bruno and DCL
      GW 3 - Auba - KDB.

      McCarthy Steer.
      Trent Taylor KWP Vinagre Lamptey

Does Ings outscore DCL by 4pts GW1? If not I'd just start with DCL and save the hit GW2.

Are 3 premium mids too much?

My team and plan for the next few weeks centres around whether I bring in Bruno or Martial.

      Team 1 is 3-5-2 (2.5m ITB):

      McCarthy (Nyland)
      TAA Davies Justin (Vinagre Mitchell)
      Auba Salah Son Armstrong Soucek
      Werner Mitrovic (4.5)

      GW2: Son > Bruno
      GW3: Auba > KDB

      Team 2 is 3-4-3 (0.5m ITB):

      McCarthy (Nyland)
      TAA Davies Justin (Vinagre Mitchell)
      Auba Salah Ziyech Soucek (4.5)
      Werner Mitrovic Ings

      GW2: Werner/Ings > Martial

If I have Ali already, would you go Kane or get Werner and use the extra 1 mil?
I usually don’t punt on new PL players but just feel if I don’t get Werner early it could back fire?

I'm sure they didn't stick to the strategies they leaked to us last season. I remember being annoy and amused at taking the 'expert advice' last year when it turned out they themselves did something completely different in the end.

      Just listening to Black Box...

We harp on about flexibility (understandably), but the amount of bandwagons that are just an utter waste of time:

      Pukki
      Wesley
      Mount
      Abraham

      Otamendi

Why were they a waste of time? It’s about getting them at the right time and moving them on.

        1. Ser Davos

Perhaps I should be more specific:

buying those players (Mark examples in this instance) after they'd had their initial hauls (they weren't necessary prospects prior to their respective hauls) the transfers to buy them and then to sell seems a false economy

Tammy was dropped then exploded at Molineux and then was a dud. Mount a similar story and Pukki had one or two goals post his hat trick and was then a dud for months

Initial caveat. I am rubbish at Fpl, always chasing points, taking too many hits, etc.

So I am sort of happy with my team, and have plans to navigate week1, and end up with a team I am happy with for wk2/3+
However, I am just playing around with a few fillers, and I find myself flipping between 352 and 451 (warning! - bad idea, but....)
The 352 has a 6m mid (say Ward-Prowse) and a 6.5 fwd (say wood, or a wk 1 playing player like Adams). Solid but boring.

The 451 has a mid upgrade to 8m, so Alli, or Ziyech, or other (maybe pulisic- in future with some trewaking) Yay, thats got to be an improvement?
      It's also more exciting?

But Wood becomes a non playing 4.5 fwd , and my benched 4.5 defender plays instead, (say Taylor)....

I plugged the numbers into RMT and Alli is the worst of the lot! Ziyech improves things but wood and ward prowse trumps any 4.5 Def and 8m mid I can find.

I know 451 is problematic, (2 non playing strikers on the bench is not flexible).... But Alli or Ziyech has got to be better than JWP or Wood, in reality?
Does 2 medioche players beat 1 good and one poor player?

      Thoughts?

(I have 3 strong defenders, fernandes/kdb by wk 2/3, with son and Werner taking all my remaining budget up)

      TAA, Vinagre, KWP
      Auba, Salah, Mane, ASM, Soueck
