International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

This is too difficult. Whenever I want to reduce my watchlist, I end up adding new names like Che Adams, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dele Alli. And after deciding on 3-5-2, I'm struggling to only pick three strikers!

But it all comes down to which Man Utd and Chelsea player to go with. Everything else will follow (Son, Ings, Vardy).

Leeds don't have a good run of fixtures until week 12. Although I think their assets will eventually be in demand, most of us don't have enough faith in them to overlook the early fixtures.

Don’t think their fix is relatively too bad. I think sometimes we need to take fix with a grain of salt in certain scenarios. I appreciate your reasoning and viewpoint though

Leeds will finish the season clearly above Brighton who has terrible fixtures to start. And Leeds will have more CS than Brighton, just make conclusion.

Leeds could certainly be the most underpriced team long-term.

Interesting. I think it’s between him and McCarthy, but there’s lots potential Soton options and McCarthy’s never quite had a breakthrough season

Johnstone and Rodak both have nice fix and save potential. Johnstone former MUN and capable of saving pens

            1. Flaming Flamingo

If Southampton can keep up their defensive form from the end of last season, McCarthy will be a great option. I'm not convinced though.

Meslier and KWP/Bertrand looks a potentially viable combo early on. Dallas and Ayling to possibly emerge a little later on

I know it is off topic, but I would like to share my strategy on betting, you will always the winner.
In chinese Super league, everyday there are 2 matches on different times.
When there are no draws after 5 games, bet on the draw on every match until it happens.(minumum odd for a draw is 3).
On every bet add some money that you could win your previous staked money plus the current one.
You will always be the winner, the draw is always about to happen, you can go and watch the results.

don't think that works overall in the long run, for a start in the EPL odds for a draw are often less than 3 meaning you need a good percentage of winning bets, and if doubling up on your bets can quickly get to big numbers, where you either don't have the funds to double up again, or you reach the max bet limit set by the bookies which voids the whole system

That depends on whether the 6.5m striker you could then afford scores you 41 more points than the 6.0m striker you would’ve had.

personally I would just get either McCarthy or Ryan. You will have to play the first Wildcard by GW16 anyways so I would stick with a 4.5m GK until you need to use it.

0.5m is worth 20 points, so you should definitely pick Ramsdale if you think he's returning anywhere near 40pts more than the other 2.

That's interesting. Is that just for keepers? Is there a formula for other positions?

Your budget is about 83.5m disregarding the amount you have to spend on the bench, and 2500 points is a very good score. Dividing 2500/83.5m suggests any move generating over 30 points per million should be a no-brainer.

Your captain should bump up the average, so if you get 500 captain points from an 11.5m player, you only need 2000/72m from the rest. That's around 27 ppm assuming you get a few points from your bench here and there.

Hello latest draft. What say thee?

    Lloris
    Trent(vc) - Doh - Robertson - Saiss - Boly
    Salah(C) - Son
    Jiménez - Antonio - Mitro

    Nyland - Soucek - Reed - Greenwood

If Soucek is not available for GW1 which option would you go with? He's the glue for my team!

    A) Soucek ➡️ Noble/5m
    B) Adams & Soucek ➡️ Armstrong & ASM (352)
    C) Martial & Soucek ➡️ Ings & ASM (Salah & Ings to Bruno & Martial for a hit GW2)

Already got a 4.5MID though. The max I could do with 0.5m saved is upgrade my 4.0m defender.

Playing a 4.5 mid early doors may not be the worst solution as long as they guarantee those two points. Converting a Ben Johnson to one of CTaylor/KWP/Vinagre and beyond seems a better solution at this point

I know playing a 4.5 mid is the least sexiest thing to do in FPL, but as an 11th man and in PPM terms, it could be worth it early doors. That 5.5 to 6 attacker that you’re punting on early doors is likely to give the same output (unless a Richarlison, Michu, Siggy) so may as well optimise elsewhere where you’re much likely to see a far great return on a bit more outlay

Yeah I agree with that but Soucek just seemed like an option who could offer something more than 4.5m defenders.

Soucek is the exception I think, but once you start paying out for 5.5s I think it leaves you in No Man’s Land

      1. Karan14

        3 years, 6 months ago

Yeah but bench is down bare bones already if he misses GW1 I'll be relying on 4.0m def or a 4.5 mid.

          • 7 Years
          3 years, 6 months ago

That's what playing fodder is for. The 4.0s that may start GW1 have a decent fixture as well, so you may get lucky. No point rearranging your team for players who are likely to blank themselves IMO.

I guess that depends on his GW1 performance but I don't like his fixtures from GW2-5 and I would probably prefer capping a United/City/Chelsea attacker in those gameweeks.

Reasonable odds he’s a 2/3 pointer anyway week 1 - a return is a bonus in any given week. Part of his charm is that he can return any time given his set pieces. Hold him and play bench if you’re happy with dude generally. Possibly no loss

      Looks good

      Steer over Nyland

And three of Mitro-ASM-Soucek looks too much potential-mid-price-no-man’s-land. Pick one and see if the left over pennies grabs another Pool defender

cheers Ser Davos, yeah i want Robbo, but 4 x attacking premiums (or potential premium in Werner's case) just looks nice 🙂

you think Steer more likley to play than Nyland?

I think Mitro can play most weeks, and i'd probably play the 2 x 4.5 defenders over Soucek most weeks, just not sure there's much in between basement players and premium players to start the season, finding it really hard to choose what to do - definitely want Robbo, but Chelsea and Arsenal fixtures followed by a couple of away games might be worth sacrificing to have a full-on extra premium attacker

losing Kane would definitely give me the funds and flexibility.....back to the drawing board 🙂

Fair, it’s your team afterall and I’m just observer rather than any kind of expert 🙂

Kane early doors could be great. Not convinced longer term. Even a 30 goal season will have struggling to break 200

i agree with your general point, Kane wouldn't be a season keeper, nice early fixtures might be worth giving him a chance, and then downgrade to allow maybe a Chelsea mid and another Pool defender in a few gws, finding it a real struggle to work out what strategy i want to take at start of the season - appreciate your input as always Ser 🙂

To me greenwood is the biggest bargain in the game. 7.5m for a united OOP attacker. 2m cheaper than the man who effectively plays the same position on other side of the pitch.

I feel pretty happy with him while sancho news is quiet I think.....
