International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

    Morning,

Final week of chopping and changing, I'm just curious to how many have a double Liverpool defence and how many are likely to stick with it?

I'm a little surprised that we have not seen a trent and robbo double up in many drafts...

tough for clean sheets or attaking returns? If anything I thinknits a good thing they have Chelsea and arsenal early.

Trent and Robbo and not planning to sell all season. Can create a surprisingly good team with them. I also have these premium players, and it feels balanced

      Auba
      Salah
      Son
      Werner
      Doherty

Doherty could also become a £4.5 and I could keep £1.5m ITB for Son to Bruno

      I really wanted both...

But I think I value Salah+Auba+Fernandes+Werner higher for the time being, and adding Robertson to those four leaves a very weak remaining squad

Personally wouldn't be comfortable with such a cheap bench especially with covid about.

I have debated that very team myself but I'm not sure about it

Any Sheff U fans about? O’Connell seems to have dropped off radar and Robinson at 4.5 is playing all the friendlies. Him or Phil Jak to start?

      O'Connell is first choice.

I think they're trying to look after him though due to his injury at the end of last season, hence his lack of preseason.

Jags isn't first choice either, so no 4.5 nailed options I'm afraid

My front 8 look like this:

    Auba Salah Son ASM Soucek
    Werner Adams Mitro.
1.5 itb for Son to Bruno.

But are the front 3 too light?

I can switch it round so I have Ings not Adams but it would mean Bissouma not ASM and I'd only be able to afford Rashford

    Hi Everyone
Just wanted to get pals thoughts on Naby K for liv
at 5.5 he could prove to be an excellent pick
May not play every wk but definitely stands a chance to get more goals and assists than ASM etc.
He takes up a liv slot but i don't see many teams with more than 2 liv players

I think he's worth to watch first but probably not a good FPL pick considering some (or many) might go triple LIV DF or 2DF with Salah/Mane from GW4-5 onward

Fixtures after city look great - with the defensive absences and BUR mci I’m in the first 3 I’m leaning to Werner but it’s tough

Werner allows for Taa, vardy robbo. Ultimately saves a transfer down the road sticking with Werner but vardys opening fixture is great.

Thoughts on having a decent mid of Bruno, Pulisic, Sterling/KDB, Greenwood, JWP with Werner and Ings/ Jiminez upfront at the expense of Salah and Auba?

    Thoughts please?

I'm also thinking about going without one of them and maybe both. KDB will be in, but seriously thinking about a stronger midfield across the board, or upgrading defence. Not been playing FFL that long, and have never been without Salah or Mane, but it was always a case of "have I got the wrong one?" come gameweek. Also Pool last year was a bit of a no brainer. I'm personally not thinking they will drop their levels too much, though I've seen posts suggesting they might, rather than I expect Man Utd and Chelsea to be stronger this year. And if that's right, there's some good value to be had in their players. Hence the tinkering......

    Thoughts on my latest team?

    Schmeichel
    Robertson Doherty KWP
    Auba Son Traore ASM
    Antonio Werner Ings

    Nyland Vinagre Pereira (WBA) Mitchell

    1.0 ITB

Traore is reverse OOP until they sign a right wing back. Personally don’t like your keeper either, Leicester defence is distinctly average

Need an opinion on two templates. I'm definitely going with one so if you rip them both to shreds I'll probably cry.

A Team - I am favouring this approach

    McCarthy Ryan
    TAA Vinagre Justin Ayling Taylor
    Salah Auba Son ASM Soucek
    Ings Jimenez 4.5

    0.5 ITB

My justification for this is, although there will be money on the bench, it's only ever 2m and it *should* in theory reduce my transfers in defence as I'll have more options. There's also home/away rotation pairs in Ryan & Ayling and Justin & Taylor. Yes we know Justin may not play once Pereira is fit but it's a small move to a Sheff U 5.0 defender. In midfield and attack it's moves to Man U and Man City that are likely and this can easily be accommodated in the form of KDB & Bruno, or the riskier step of Rashford and Martial.

B Team - Less flexibility, but more potential (maybe).

    McCarthy Button
    TAA Doherty Vinagre Ayling 4.0
    Salah Auba Son Soucek 4.5
    Werner Ings 4.5

    0 ITB

This selection provides less selection headache in defence and provides two defenders more than capable of getting 150+ points. Still room to manoeuvre in midfield by downgrading Auba or even Salah and up front we get Werner who seems to be the go to pick. He allows for a downgrade to Martial or Jimenez and isn't too much of a stretch to Vardy, Kane or Aguero if one of them explodes.

There's a lot more rigidity in this team and would require more transfers which is something I'd like to avoid, but I think points potential early on might be greater.

Let me know what you think 🙂 and please be kind (ish).

I don't like any 4.5m goalkeeper to be honest. There seem to be only 2 options, McCarthy and Ryan and both of them ended last season on 3.7 points per game. For the first time in couple of seasons I'm actually willing to pay the 0.5 or 1m extra for the goalkeeper...

Are people missing a trick on the 5m defenders? Surely there is some amazing value to be had there. I have Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Shef Utd and United defences all @ 5m. Not that those defences have been amazing recently but certainly look likely to improve.

        Dier from set pieces.

Bellerin if he stays or Cedric. Whenever it is clear who is nailed.

James. Some rotation inevitable but high ceiling.

Egan, solid defence and goal threat.

Shaq/Lindleof. Shaw with some threat but injury prone and Lindleof just at a decent price for united defence.

Dier will be a dire pic imo

          James when chelsea settle

          Egan agree offers great potential

Shaw when he shows he is back and fit defo going in my team

Saiss could be great too, that said Vinagre is 4.5 and offers more in attack.

Dunk or Coleman could be options per fixtures who also offer attacking returns

Chelsea - Signed Silva and Chilwell along with some attacking signings that will likely have possession for long periods.

Spurs - Mourinhio’s second season and signed Doherty.

Sheffield - Egan is a great option and proven solid defence.

Arsenal - Look to have tightened up in recent games against Chelsea, pool etc.

United - Have a defender on the bench for gw2 onwards with a nice run of fixtures for 5m.

People have TAA plus cheapies to fit all their attacking picks in. Some also want Doherty. The 5.0s are mainly the CHs like Dunk Saiss Dier that are not as sexy as the full/wing backs but could well offer stability and good value

Not a million miles away from mine, but I binned Salah so I didn't have any non-playings on my bench and had to play Mitrovic every week. If you've got you heart set on Salah then Ziyech (injured?) > Zaha/Barnes/Mount would free up enough to improve fodder. If Salah out then Jiminez up front is what I did - if they all play looks fine - good luck!

It's time for our ML draft again (we play with the 100m cap but have a 5-team 'draft'). I'm developing my 'big board'. Starting with overall, how would you rank the top 10 players in FPL for this season. Position value plays a part but really about total points.

    I have:
    1) Bruno
    2) Salah
    3) KDB
    4) Auba
    5) Mane
    6) TAA
    7) Kane
    8) Stirling
    9) Werner (I have him > Vardy....)
    10) Son...(Rashford, Havertz, Ziyech, Pulisic... Chelsea big?)

I would love to hear how you rank them! Who is missing?

    Thanks

If we are sure about who our captain is going to be every GW, are we better off losing one of the premiums and upgrade the cheap MF/FWD (as we have plenty of good options in attack at 8-9m to upgrade from 5-6m)

      eg.,
      A)AUBA, ASM
      vs
      B) SON/alli/ziyech/harvetz, ings/jimenez/martial

If you are not ever captaining Auba, don't you think set B would comfortably outscore set A and also would make the switch from one player to the other easier as there are plenty of players available in this price bracket...

would love to hear your thoughts on this

Hey - thanks for thoughtful reply!
Typically in this format I'll have to be very flexible because you just don't know who will be available. I would ideally take B and manage my (C) choice each week because i feel there is so much high-quality depth in MID this year (not so much in FWD). However, I have to try and get an every-week captain in 1st round because there could be a run on MID that obliterates my options for B...

At what point have FFS activity encouraged us to stake money on a certified losing bet?

That's a different point (and is coming soon anyway according to the article) - the point here is the more money you lose the more money FFS makes, so FFS are effectively wishing misery on you. If you think that's fair game then fair enough, but I don't!

It says 30% of the deposit, not 30% of Bet365's profits.
If we followed a link from here and put £10 on it, FFS get £3 regardless of win or lose.

Big difference with this. Generally punters choose to go on these sites with the express purpose of gambling. This is not the case with FFS.

Only 2 of the 7 platforms I listed would be people go to for the purpose of gambling.
32Red sponsored Leeds and the official Leeds website has a promotion offering a free VIP matchday package to people who signed up and deposited £50 on 32Red. The fans visiting the Leeds website weren't punters looking to gamble. Same as with this site.

Do we think greenwood is nailed. Surely at 7.5 he offers value?
