International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

If Soucek ruled out of week one and in your team who are you planning to replace with? Rice or Noble seem possible options, or Berge or would you drop to 4.5

Not Rice, at least Nobes on pens.

Not sure if you have seen but he piped up last night on twitter over the Diangana deal. May have landed himself in hot water.

Only had him for GW1 until Greenwood is playing so I'd drop to a second 4.5 bench option and upgrade a defender to switch to 4 atb. Better value in that bracket

If we are sure about who our captain is going to be every GW, are we better off losing one of the premiums and upgrade the cheap MF/FWD (as we have plenty of good options in attack at 8-9m to upgrade from 5-6m)

    eg.,
    A)AUBA, ASM
    vs
    B) SON/alli/ziyech/harvetz, ings/jimenez/martial

If you are not ever captaining Auba, don't you think set B would comfortably outscore set A and also would make the switch from one player to the other easier as there are plenty of players available in this price bracket...

would love to hear your thoughts on this

Yes. But I am captaining Auba gw2. So afterwards, yes. But then you might want Sterling or De bruyne along with Salah and have alternating captaincy option depending on fixtures.

Using FTs to switch from one premium captain to the other depending on the fixtures?

Quick poll, as I am torn between the 2.

    1. Hold WC as long as poss.
    2. Look to play WC around the GW 4-6 mark.

    Cheers.

Has to be somewhere in the middle.

Booking it in is silly I think.

But trying to hold on to a team that is underperforming because you want to keep your wildcard as long as possible is also silly

Easy. Just think to yourself we are in the middle of a pandemic with cases starting to rise again and you have your answer. I would genuinely ignore anyone who tells you that planning an early WC is a good idea. Total nonsense imo

I was just looking at the Watchlist and it got me thinking. I'm now considering going without TAA and two 4.5m makeweights in favour of not putting all my eggs in the one basket and spreading the funds around a little. I did a little number crunching and Doherty, Tierney & James/Dier could quite conceivably outscore the first combination and possibly give more even yields.

Salah would be first to be dropped if he doesn't perform against Leeds. So many good options in midfiled this year the points to price will be so important this year.

You got over a quarter of your entire budget sat on the bench and your GW1 starting XI includes a £4.0m, 2 x £4.5m and a £5.0m. You are basically relying on just 5 players to score all your points, even if they all get returns (unlikely) there is no way you score more than 60 points.

Yes but he might replace Davies on 59 minutes when they're losing 0-1 since Sessegnon has attacking threat when he bagged 15 goals as winger back in Fulham days

I like A short term, Alli is at a great price point because you can easily move to Greenwood or one of the Chelsea midfielders. Liverpool's early fixtures are tricky from a defensive standpoint, and I really dislike the 5.5 mids as a whole

Yeah it is definitely a more flexible option. My concern is that just having TAA isn't enough, everyone has him. And if Robbo continues like he has the last couple of seasons, he is great value

What do you think of Vardy?
I lost a lot of point by sticking him post-lockdown. Like him but scared to back him again. He is older and lacking services from Chilwell/ Maddison.
    Thoughts?

Avoid, lack of service is true especially no Maddison to supply, topped with super expensive price for an ageing striker

Great option, he was actually very decent post-lockdown: 4G 1A in 8 with very good underlying stats. I'm keeping him for at least the first two and then reassessing then most likely.

Triple Chelsea from GW3 may be better? Liverpool will likely score at least 1 against them GW2 and you've plumped for 3 unknowns who may well take time to adjust. I'd love it to work for you though! Just very risky.

Still not sure on my defence in this Son-less draft - would you swap one of Egan and Davies out for a £4.5 or £4.0? And if so, are there any obvious upgrades to use the £0.5/£1.0 cash on?
