Pro Pundits - Lateriser

The ‘glue guys’ who will be set-and-forget FPL options on my Gameweek 3 Wildcard

Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, discusses the Fantasy assets who he’ll be sticking with over the coming weeks and months.

I am one of many managers who is deploying their Wildcard right now and one of the reasons for that is the emergence of a few ‘glue guys’ – that and the fact that I’ve had a terrible start, and my overall rank is around the 4.5 million mark.

Glue guys are the kind of picks in a particular ‘value’ price bracket that you just need to set in your team and forget about for a long time because they will continue to offer bang for buck for the mid-to-long term.

It’s important to filter these out because if you’re Wildcarding this early in the season, you need to get these picks right so that your team has enough stability.

It’s the emergence of these glue guys and a few long-term trends that I’m particularly comfortable ‘banking’ on that has me Wildcarding early. It was the similar emergence of assets like Caglar Soyuncu (£5.5m), John Lundstram (£5.5m) and Todd Cantwell early last season that instilled me with confidence to Wildcard early.

So who are the ‘glue guys’ that I’m looking at early this season?

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5M)

Brighton look like a different team this season, especially with the addition of highly-rated Ben White (£4.5m) in their side. They have been very impressive in the first two games and look to me like a team that is going to do much better than they did last year.

What Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) gives us is the ability to provide points at both ends of the pitch at a cut-price rate.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

Care to show us the rest of the new shiny toy :). I am not sure wether to go for Son in the mid or an extra stricker?
Son over a 4.5 means having Brewster up top and losing James/5.0 to Dunne.
Son gives flex to jump on another upcomming mid but weakens bench significantly and deprives me of either Jimmy or Werner up top.
        Thinking No to Son myself.

Ndidi put could have a big impact on Leicester’s ability to keep clean sheets but Castagne has more than enough attacking potential to make up for the shortfall.

Looks solid elsewhere and a nice bench option in Lamptey

I don't watch us much these days (although I did last week) but whenever he's become such an important player since Kante left. I worry that we'll be overrun in midefield in matches like we have coming up these weekend. I think it's inevitable that we'll degrade a little across the board.

Tried a bit spectacular here on the WC.

    Martinez
    James Siass Dier/Kean
    Salah KdB Sterling Foden Podence
    Werner DCL

    Steer Brewster Lamptey Mitchell/Dunne

    0.0 inb.

No Jimenez but I like to have Sterling as the captaincy option. No pool defence but I am hoping to rotate among cheap 5.0/4.5s according to the fixture. Thoughts?

You have 3 city midfield is way too risky for me. OFC, Sterling is costly for me and Jeminez is a decent option in the top 3

Indeed. I am currently weighing up if Robbo+ Jimenez outscores Dier/Kean + Sterling with captaincy in probably next two fixtures.

I think Greenwood is such an explosive pick and Martial is a captain shout to potentially emerge. Have to monitor Bruno's positions and van Deek.

So many options at Everton, Spurs, bits of Arsenal and Wolves and Brighton are on form.

As well as premium picks at Man City and Liverpool.

          Plus Chelsea players...

Will be interesting to see what Villa offer and if Burnley become a safe bet too.

With the current squad and the fact that Frankie will go for 4-2-3-1 to unleash Havertz's potential. The only threat for Tammy is Mount and CHO starting together but I really don't expect this happening so probably Tammy will be upfront

A few might think I’m mental, but really tempted to remove Salah/Martial for DeBruyne/Jimenez next week (-4) and this will leave me with a dbl up for Leeds away (currently I have Sterling).. Salah has 2 away games and then he will come back in for one of them.. Or am I better off sticking with sterling/Salah if they both do really well this week??

I'm currently thinking similar on WC. I don't think it's a decision you can make now though, the matches will give more info.

See how Martial gets on, if poor you can always move to Jesus next week to target the city double up for Leeds

Im thinking of going 442, which involves double Liv defence, at least 1 Wolves and Mitchell. Last spot is up for grabs and thinking of just doubling on Wolves, waiting on Semedo price.

Lamptey a good option and value but feel I wouldnt play him much with my set up.

Having any Chelsea or Man United players on WC Lateriser?

      Current wildcard team:

      Martinez
      TAA - Saiss - Robbo
      Hamez - KDB - Son - Podence
      DCL - Jiménez - Jesus

      Subs: Forster, Lamptey, Mitchell, Burke

Bit torn between Jesus/Martial/Werner for third striker slot. Also a bit anxious about not having Salah in so could swap the third striker for a 4.5 and upgrade Hamez.

      Thoughts?

      Martinez Steer
      TAA James Saiss Lamptey Mitchell
      KDB Salah Foden Trossard Costa
      Mitrovic Werner Jimenez

      Thoughts on this team guys?
