Pro Pundits - Darren

Why I’m lining up for FPL Gameweek 3 without any Chelsea players

A Fantasy Premier League veteran of 11 years, Darren Wiles has an incredible track record with three top 1k finishes in the last four seasons.

With so many favourable match-ups in Gameweek 3, I am feeling confident about the next round of Fantasy Premier League.

It has been a positive start thus far, anyway, with 80 and 90-point hauls in the first two Gameweeks taking me to a total of 170 and an overall rank of 29k.

The goals have been flying in so far and I have been lucky enough to capitalise on the early glut of double-digit returns. But all of that is in the past, and it’s what happens this weekend that matters now.

Here is what my team looks like for Gameweek 3 and the reasons behind some key decisions.

No disagreement on Burke, but is Harrison Reed also an option? 2 starts in 2 games so far

WC, going for 3 at the back with Trent, James, Saiss, Mitchell, Dunne.

But I’m happy to start Mitchell in almost every one of his next 10 games. So am I wasting money on Saiss/James?

Mitchell won’t play the next 10. Also you’ll probably need a 4th defender when players are rotated/positive test

    any good?
wildcard team seems a bit safe but nothing flash - anything you'd change?

    Martinez Steer
Robbo Saiss (pick 2 of Justin/Lamptey/Taylor) Ferguson
Salah Kdb Son (will move to Pulisic later) Foden Soucek (has Podence but allows 6.5m striker)
    Jimenez DCL Wood

    tooooo many options

It's good that, I don't like the 'Wood' pick really BUT I can't offer anything else other than Mitrovic and having 0.5 for Robbo to Trent.

Lamptey and Taylor over Justin - he'll lose his place within a month.

Wood can interchange to a few options. Antonio once fixtures improve
would gain 0.5 later Son to Pulisic if form is there

          Yeah that's fair enough....as I said, it's a good team.

I only have 1 premium Mid at the moment and I feel I have to change that by the morning.

Mitrovic is leading in my head at the moment but I don't really like him either.

I'm half tempted to gamble with Brewster and go 3-5-2 for now, but I feel that's a punt too far on a WC, as he'd be easy to get in GW5 if I need to (with 2 FT)

I started with Brewster but felt I need to pull wildcard this week
Important to get 3rd striker on pens imo. Maupay would be the other consideration until GW8 where Antonio becomes solid option (but not on pens)
Easy switch to Brewster if he’s nailed somewhere

I have all the scout picks team except three players

    Robertson, DCL, Werner (scout)
    vs.
    Foden, Martial, Jimenez (me)

I'd have Foden, DCL and Jimenez to be fair.

Martial at 9.0 isn't going to be better than DCL PPM this season IMO.

Not worth the gamble based on Man Utd's performance last week though is it?

Even if Martial hauled, DCL will always have a chance of scoring, he's the focal point.

The extra (almost) 2m is enough to not bother with Tony.

Ah okay, yes that makes sense....

He might be worth keeping at home, then away at the Toon?

If he blanks this week then it's an easy move though.

I literally considered it as I was watching the Wolves game and was hovering over the trigger right before the price rise. Taking the -4 hit put me off at the time but now I've took the hit anyways and lost the money from the price changes. Very silly.

    Martinez, Steer
    Saiss, James, Taylor, Lamptey, Mitchell
    Sterling, KDB, Son, Foden, Burke
    DCL, Werner, Jimenez

    0.3 itb

Dunne going up in price tonight- is he likely to secure starting spot given Burnley’s defender issues with Mee injury and Tarkowski injury/possible transfer- or stay away?

    1. SalahFingers
      • 6 Years

He may not rise. Many rises are inaccurate this week due to so many wildcarding.

I'd assume Dunne will lose his place long term, but I guess that depends how he plays.

Thanks for the feedback. I get the Southampton angst but fixture wise it’s the best over the next 6-8 games and realistically I’m not going to use a transfer to address it until next wildcard. So got to trust they’ll get their defence sorted

Podence over Klich for me with Wolves fixtures- could you stretch to James over Coady. More attacking potential and with Mendy increased chance of clean sheets

      1. Ruudy Van
        • 12 Years
        3 years, 7 months ago

Had podence and James pre price rises so was all good to go. Figured double wolves defence as a bit of calculated risk though. James & podence two players with potential to lose their place place alongside foden felt like too many. Could be very wrong however.

      Martinez/Ryan > McCarthy
Double up on Wolves is great and around gw 9 ditch Coady for someone else
      Really really like it

Thanks. Keeper is still proving tricky to decide on. Have the feeling Southampton will sort it out and have the best fixtures for the next 6-8 of the 4.5’s.. Coady- exactly that thinking, thanks for the reassurance

Foden or Podende on WC? Have 1m in the bank atm.

All depends on whether Foden starts

Podence for me, but Foden looks very good IF he keeps a team place. That's why I didn't go with him (also I have KDB).
