Pro Pundits - Andy

Should we sell or hold Timo Werner ahead of FPL Gameweek 4 and who are the best replacements?

It is fair to say that Timo Werner (£9.4m) has not started life in the Premier League as Fantasy managers had hoped he would.

Chelsea have scored six in their first three matches but their new forward has managed just one assist in that run.

So the question is: Is it time we looked to replace Werner? And if so who for? In this article I want to talk about the possible options.

As it uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

I remember City last season bouncing back from losses by thrashing the next team, considering Leeds' defensive susceptibility I can see them putting 3+ past them. KDB (C) for me.

Ings is a great option, West Brom are giving up chances for fun. It's a hat-trick game for him.

Man City will re-bounce and surely they have that ability to score 3-4 goals against that Leeds who plays high-line defense.

Atleast this fixture is bound to have goals.

In previous GW, LEI scored 4 goals and Vardy didn't have any involvement. We can't judge the player by the output as Barnes could easily have 2 assist if Vardy wasn't fouled in penalty box against City.

Vardy to Jiminez was the most ideal move, infact I would move again and again. But the way season is going anything we do, will reciprocate.

Auba to KDB/Sterling would be my move.

I agree. I did vardy to jimi and would do so again. Wish I had removed werner but how could you against wba.
The mistake was having werner in the first place.

I was just making the point that Auba to a city mid was a more obvious out than Vardy to X player.

I would say the majority of ppl playing FPL had that transfer lined up from the start?

I take your point though. If you already had your city guy, Vardy would be the next asset you look at shifting

                3 years, 6 months ago

Yes, as I told, I would do Vardy to Jiminez again and again in heartbeat looking at Stats/Fixture. But this season nothing falls in line or how we expect so nothing is obvious like you stated.

    2. GreennRed
      • 12 Years

Pure obvious. Selling a proven PL striker for a striker who's played 3 PL games and could struggle for gametime in Chelsea's best 11.

  10. Flair

He's such an incredible player and I still believe that when Chelsea are fully functioning, he can play at levels that replicate Salah's 17/18 season. Unfortunately the potential is far away from the current state, where he's sitting deeper, hugging the touchline, playing at LW and not performing well. FML FPL summed it up pretty well, Lampard just can't get the best out of him, or even anything out of him. They're a poorly functioning team living off individual quality alone and without Ziyech and Pulisic it just isn't working for them. I do want that 2 FT flexibility over the IB, but when players like DCL and Ings are out there it seems foolish to persist.

Guys at Planet FPL Pod made a similar point we know what players like Ings, Jimy, DCL, Tony are doing, what position they play and what's their role etc. With Chelsea & Werner we have no clue about their roles, positions and gameplan. It just feels like Lampard is trying everything possible so that something works out.

Anyone else finding it nerve wrecking making transfers.

I want to bring Ings into my team but he isn’t going to price rise so I’m waiting until the last moment because on top of the possible injury any player can suffer you could transfer in someone who ends up with Covid before kickoff and out for a few weeks....

Yes I am. That’s partly due to transferring out Son to Bruno for GW2 and then scoring less points with my WC team last week than I would have done with my previous team. You can guarantee that moving Werner to Ings or Jimenez this week will prove unsuccessful.

Saw comments on here last night that Werner was limping a bit by the end of the game and that's why he didn't take a penalty. Did anyone see that/did it look serious? Might be worth doing that Timo > Ings transfer I suppose.

Should 'we' sell or hold Timo Werner? How irritating.

Sell. Reassess in 4/5 weeks is what I'm doing. Cave decide on Ings or Vardy though

Richarlison a better option now only .6 diff in price. On penalties too.

Do you think he’ll outscore DCL? I’m on a WC having had a bad start and can’t tell if going rich is going to backfire. Shots look good and he does look dangerous on eye test.
Dcl just scores goals in the six yard box which everton seem to be creating masses of chances

IMO yes. I have DCL and I am changing when I have an opportunity. Penalties are a massive thing now too and Richa eye candy.

Is anyone concerned about match cancellations through Covid? it seems Italy are going to stop games for 2 weeks. Sounds like a similar pattern as before.

I think flair posted earlier that this week's round of covid testing had 10 players test positive so yeah disruption even if games aren't cancelled

Not me who posted that, but PL have very strict protocols on cancelling games. They want to avoid that at all costs, so I believe they've set regulations that mean if 14 players from your U-23 squad can play, they'll play. Otherwise, forfeit.

10 Covid cases already isn't a great look though, I expected discipline to be tightened like after Project Restart. If Italy are suspending games for 2 weeks it could have a knock on effect, or be an indicator of what's to come. The PL can't do it though, they'll do anything to avoid that scenario.

England have three games during the IB, makes little sense.

Little sense to call them off or play them? I think it will be taken out of their hands. Maybe not this time around but in the near future.

Play them, fixture congestion is insane. Sooner they go the better.

The relief in Werners eyes when he scored that goal yesterday!
The way I see it, he needed to score that goal to get som weight off his shoulders. Now he can focus on what's important.
I was torn between keeping and selling earlier this week, but now I'm sure. I will keep him for one more week, and then reassess in the IB.

We never owned him. But reading this article gave us a nice shot of dopamine, so thank you 👿

      McCarthy, 4.0
      Taa, lascelles, saiss, Taylor, Mitchell
      KDB, son, havertz, Podence, bissouma
      Werner, martial, Adams

2.5 ITB, 1FT - another terrible week... any suggestions?
Son and Podence obvious injury concerns, Havertz and Werner not doing much

Wait till Friday atleast. If everyone is fit, I would go Lascelles to Robbo/Digne.

I think Lampard definitely prefers his other options but they could have really used someone like him in that first half against West Brom. But in spite of his good performance at Brighton he was still dropped once Kovacic was back so I definitely wouldn't take it for granted that he will.

I suspect the choice is between starting Jorginho or Kante. Given they're Palace who won't press but will stay tightly organised, Frank ought to play Jorginho rather than his attack dog.

      Jimenez Ings DCL

I see city putting 3 or 4 against and same with saints against westbrom, However my thinking is that Ings will be more involved in the saints goals whereas city's goals could be shared

I don't see 3-4 goals against WBA, tbh. But agree if they manage to score, Ings will likely to involve. But still Sterling cap for me. Best fixture and no threat of rotation.

Maybe Sterling to Salah or Mane if you have the funds, but g2g otherwise.

          Thanks for the reply,

I think I could go without Salah for their away games with villa who kept 2 clean sheets and Everton. I would get salah for sterling for their home game against SHU

Fair enough, I see you have KDB as well and maybe enough City for now until they get up to speed imo. Either way it's a nice team.
