International Football

How many minutes did FPL assets play over the international break?

A busier-than-usual international break has come to an end and the Premier League players who were in action for their respective homelands have gradually returned to England ahead of Gameweek 5.

Some nations crammed in a triple-header of games over the last fortnight, with a handful of Fantasy assets taking part in all three of their country’s matches.

Fatigue is certainly a concern ahead of the Premier League’s resumption, be it through on-field exertions on the continent or due to long-haul flights back from further afield.

In this article, we’ll round up how many minutes each FPL asset clocked up while on international duty.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED

To the best of our knowledge, these were the players who racked up the most minutes over the international break:

FURTHEST TRAVELLED AND LATEST RETURNEES

Most of the matches that took place over the international break, including the friendlies involving the African teams, Mexico and Japan, were staged in Europe.

There were a number of World Cup qualifiers held in South America, however, so the likes of James Rodriguez (£7.8m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) and Alex Telles (£5.5m) have had to endure long-haul flights back from their respective countries after being in action in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

Everton and Liverpool, of course, meet in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Goodison Park.

The South American countries weren’t the last ones in action, however, with a host of European teams – including England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Italy and France – contesting Nations League games on Wednesday evening.

The dates for all of the international games in October are available here.

CLUB-BY-CLUB ROUND-UP

The team-by-team guide below breaks down the minutes that each player has played per international match over the last week or so, with a total given at the end.

Any players with an asterisk next to their names withdrew from their countries’ squads either at the outset or midway through the international break or picked up an injury at the back-end of it.

We’ll have further details on any lingering fitness concerns in our pre-Gameweek 5 team news round-up on Friday.

In what way is Salah away from home, at a place he's not scored and to super in form team a safe choice?

Not a bad pick, but Son or preferably Kane is a much safer pick due to form and fixture. Not that it'll be easy!

City player probably a better choice than either or a maverick Chelsea or Man United choice.

Would captain Kane if I had him, currently on Son.
Would't captain City player until they get back to their normal standards.

I think Kane or Son is a safe choice that makes sense.

Equally i wouldn't be surprised to be sat here Monday morning and city won 3-1 with KDB getting 2 returns and spurs drawing 1-1. Tough game this haha

Not much wrong with it. But maybe keep a plan of getting KDB back in case he goes bonkers.

Tough one. If KDB is out tomorrow then that's more straightforward and i'll probably go without for 3-4 weeks.

I think we've missed the boat on Son. Great if you had him for hauls, but both were freak games and i don't think we'll see such high lines / collapses. Still a solid choice, but i'm pretty confident Kane scores better by at least 10+ points over next 4.

I'm keeping Robbo on WC, maybe seeing if i can fund the extra 0.5 for TAA. You either accept they're season keepers and take the droughts with the 15+ pointers or try and get lucky with cheaper defenders and rotating. History says they'll come good and underlying stats are fine so points will come!

I'd be most happy without kdb injury pending, then missing Son.

Excellent points. definitely depends on kdb injury, will have to see what pep says, most probably nothing.

        Great reply thanks alot.

I am working on a WC also and by the end of the today all 4 of those personnel will probably be included. If I drop one it will be Robbo and thats to bring Salah in. I cant get Salah in with the other 4 (no one can I suspect) with currently low team values.

Anyone else going Salah captain? And yes, I know I don't enjoy the early kick-off captain picks. A blank ruins the entire football weekend.

      Absolutely not.

People picking Salah captain this week should just perma cap him. There is no way he is the best pick this week vs Everton at Goodison who they have historically had a hard time scoring against, who are in really good form, and who have great underlying defensive data as well.

I know it's a difficult choice picking the best captain among all the remaining guys, but you have to try imo. Defaulting to Salah here is lazy.

I think it's got to be Kane.

Son thrives in open counter attacking games while obviously being capable of the moment of magic as well. West Ham just won't do this and as a long term Son owner (except inexplicably the 2 game weeks he goes mental...) this is the classic game he could struggle in.

Bale might also start so we could see Kane being targeted a lot leading to assists / goals. Shame he played 90 mins midweek, but at least that shows he's fit!

I'm in 100% agreement with you and everything logically says it's a poor choice.

But the way this season is going. Salah will probably score a hatrick for the first time in mersyside derby since Gerrard in 2012.

I won't be (c)ing him, but its not a bad choice. I just genuinely think there are a number of better options and 9 times out of 10 you'll be better off going elsewhere!

I’m captaining Salah, but guess I’m just lazy for defaulting to the best asset in the game in a week where there are no standout options. It’d be KDB if he was declared 100% fit with no doubts though.

It’s close between Salah, Son, and Kane with KDB out the mix IMO.

I am between a reasonable and a crazy choice but Salah is definitely out. All the reasons in the world. Difficult opponent, last games between the two teams were goalless, early kickoff, expect Liv to focus on defence after last game etc

The defensive data says that they are... They kept a clean sheet vs Spurs who are the premier league leading scorers now.

The only thing that might offer hope is a Pickford howler but that's not exactly reliable.

Personally, I would avoid all these and go for Coady or Saiss. They are cheaper and have just as much chance of producing relatively big returns.
