Scoutcast Episode 349 – Targeting the best premium FPL players

Joe and Az are joined by FPL Family’s Lee to look ahead to Gameweek 6.

For once this season the entire Scoutcast crew had a great Gameweek, thanks to some honesty from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola over the absence of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m).

The Belgian’s injury opened the door to a flurry of Wildcards from Az and Lee and gave Joe the opportunity to roll back the years and place his trust in Harry Kane (£10.8m) as captain.

With premium picks like the Spurs striker performing well each week, many Fantasy Premier League managers are adjusting the way they approach the game.

Accepting the “opportunity cost” of switching heavy hitters and targeting as many captainable assets as possible are among the strategies Joe, Az and Lee discuss.

Could Liverpool defenders make way? That’s certainly an option being considered by Joe as he looks to shoehorn a Liverpool midfielder in his already premium-heavy side. But is Sadio Mane (£11.9m) over Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) really “trying to be too clever” as Az suggests?

Aston Villa’s cheaper assets could be the enablers FPL managers need, especially ahead of a long, kind run of games. The merits of the likes of Jack Grealish (£7.2m) and Ross Barkley (£5.9m) are among Villa players the crew consider.

There’s a smoother edition of Rough with the Smooth this week, fixtures to frisk and captaincy and transfer plans to reveal.

In addition, Lee takes his turn to pick a differential. If he can select a player who actually sets foot on the pitch, he has already done better than Joe’s failed selections so far this campaign.

        I like the Holding > Robertson transfer since it lets me invest most of my money ITB.

        I've currently got Podence and Watkins as my cheaper Mid and Forward who I'd probably like to upgrade in the future.

        Would you reckon Holding > Saiss and upgrade one of the two attacking players next week?

    Would you rather:

    A) TAA and Mitrovic to Chilwell and Kane (have exact money so Chilwell might need to be someone slightly less expensive come Friday).

    B) Jimenez and Mitrovic to Antonio and Kane (don’t want to get Antonio yet but do plan on getting him in a couple of weeks).

    Both moves would be for free.

    Hi guys. I know this may be a tricky question to understand. Have 1.8 ITB in the bank and looking for a Reece James replacement. However, I also want to get one of KDB/Sterling back in my team at some point and may be priced out if I spend 5.5 or more on a defender. What would you suggest here? Hope it makes sense!

      Work for the now - GW10 is when city are going to be needed, no reason before then to keep cash available for that move - anything can happen in the meantime

    Keeping Trent for now, although Robertson looks much better. But Trent has haul in him and it is just matter of moment, will be patient with him. If I had other ft then I would have done Rams to Martinez but that has to wait now, Kane is killing it atm. Other then that think I am gtg.         I've got 1 FT and 2.9 ITB

        Defense definitely needs a major reshuffle but I'm also unsure of Podence and Watkins. What are your thoughts on improving this lot?

          Doing pretty well so far (99k OR), but every week it is a struggle to hold back and not to make some changes, always want to improve the squad. I have quite a chunk in the bank as well due to KDB to Zaha move last week.

          I have 3.6m in the bank

            You know CRY have a chance of a CS, but are still a bit naff. You know United have a good chance of scoring, but Chilwell does get advanced. Toss up on the higher odds.
