Which FPL players are on international duty and when ahead of Gameweek 9

The final international break of the calendar year is underway, with over 200 Premier League players in action for their nations over the next week.

Some international sides are again cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and, as was the case in September and October, a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their respective countries’ matches.

Fatigue is certainly a concern ahead of Gameweek 9, then, be it through on-field exertions on the continent or due to long-haul flights back from further afield.

As was the case last month, a host of European teams – including England – are scheduled to contest UEFA Nations League games on Wednesday evening.

Gameweek 9 begins less than 72 hours after these matches have been played, with Newcastle United v Chelsea the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

The main concern might be the number of World Cup qualifiers held in South America, however.

The likes of James Rodriguez (£7.9m), Richarlison (£7.8m), Roberto Firmino (£9.2m), Thiago Silva (£5.5m) and Alex Telles (£5.5m) will have to endure long-distance flights back from their respective countries after being in action late on Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

After the international break in October, Rodriguez, Richarlison and Firmino all started their clubs’ Gameweek 5 fixture (the early-afternoon Merseyside derby) but Thiago was rested by Chelsea.

Players such as Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m) are all in African Cup of Nations qualifying duty over the coming days, meanwhile.

The likes of Raul Jimenez (£8.4m) and Son Heung-min (£9.6m) have an easier ride, however, with Mexico and South Korea among the teams in friendly action in Europe.

Seeing Mount pop up in the wings from CM is reminding me of the debate Bielsa and Capello had.

Capello prefers specialists, and Bielsa prefers versatile players. Bielsa's argument was that players end up playing in different positions during the match because of the fluidity of the game, so they need to be proficient in various positions to play the modern game effectively.

I'm with Bielsa on this one. Versatile players like Mount and Grealish helped England looked more fluid tonight with their constant positional switches.

What was the platform for this Bielsa/Capello debate?

It's an hour long. I searched through the last half of it and only found that Capello interrupted a few times, but not saying anything much. Do you maybe have a time stamp to help people out?

Christ I can't remember, I'd need to watch it again. Sorry mate.

This probably isn't the right arena to have these kinds of discussions anyway. I'm off now, have a good one.

Yeah the fluid football system is effective for teams that keep possession but they played rep.Ireland.
If they played France or Portugal, I doubt if he will give Grealish/ Mount the license to roam around & switch positions like today

Are they really that versitile just because they turn up out of position? They're quality on the ball, which surely helps them look good wherever they are on the pitch, and central attacking mids usually are. They can't exactly do a Walcott past the last man though, nor tackle like the best CBs, lead the line, etc etc. What makes them versitile exactly?

They're not specialists in either position, no. So they won't beat men like a Sterling or dictate a game like KDB.

But they perform at a high standard in both the central midfield and the wing areas.

It's their quality at playing both roles that makes the versatility valuable.

Just drifting into these areas isn't enough, it's that they're very good when in these positions.

Mount's defensive work when in CM is not usual for an AM, for example.

Heartbroken and we’re not even out yet. Perfect performance from the team apart from Mctominay and co seemed to think the ball was going somewhere else from that corner!? Terrible marking. Taken our best players off of course so looking unlikely now. Still we have a 100% penalty shoot out record so you never know.

Subs killed us. I got two of them but McBurnie!? Should have put Paterson on for Dykes initially, he can at least run!

I dont think so. I think they were the right moves at the right time. I just think the players changed the system themselves and tried to play the game out rather than keep going with 3 pairs of fresh legs.

I have a plan for my team at least. Gonna keep Kane through thick and thin I think.

    Martinez Forster
    Zouma James Semedo Lamptey Mitchell
    Salah Rashford Son Grealish Foden
    Kane DCL Davis

    GW9 - Foden > Eze
    GW10 - Semedo + Son > KdB + KWP/Coufal -4
    GW11 - Zouma > Cancelo (could also take a further -4 and do it in GW10 for a -8)

You don't miss a chance to ridicule me so why not have at it?

We'll see about the plan. The only thing I know for sure is that I will have one of KdB or Sterling come GW10 no matter what.

Other options are Watkins in for -4 instead of Eze. And I could also replace Rashford if he's injured instead of Son.

You make yourself open to ridicule often.

You post Ed this like everyone cares, not even asking for opinion

Nobody ever made a three week plan involving hits and stuck to it

You will just act like you never posted this when you don’t do it

You only sing when you’re winning

tbf it's only a two week plan once he makes this weeks transfer, and I've certainly stuck to 2-week plans before, hits included. I find it useful to look ahead and make rough plans like this, personally. Whether or not it's interesting to share is another matter.

"You will just act like you never posted this when you don’t do it'

So why not just ignore it then? I do sometimes post things here to 'think out loud'. And you know what, it sometimes works. Some helpful posters can come in with interesting suggestions that I haven't thought of.

I forgot in my haste to 'ask for suggestions'. It was clearly the intention to get some feedback on the plan or at least I'm open to it. No need to be rude about it.

Bit harsh Rover, some of us actually value Camzys opinion on transfers etc. If we all asked for opinions we'd have the same team. Think that's what he's trying to avoid

This is harsh. It is a FF forum and he is suggesting a plan. From what I see he answers more peoples’ questions than he asks from us. Rover you clearly don’t like him but this is not needed on this forum (people don’t like Camzy but “they’re not here any more”...that sounds foolish).

I love the Kdb and cancelo move.
Seems like uv got it right.
I like the Rashford move to and as iv said earlier to u, I have a gut feeling about him doing well in the next 2 weeks. So good luck with that..
Trying to get Kdb and Cancelo myself but somehow not able to accommodate them. Will try some more permutations to fit them in.
