Scoutcast Episode 352 – Tackling the international break injury crisis

Joe and Az are joined by Seb Wassell as they look ahead to Gameweek 9 and a growing injury crisis among a number of popular Fantasy Premier League assets.

Suddenly, many FPL managers teams have turned red, orange and yellow as injury and sickness flags are being waved across their teams.

Joe, Az and Seb’s squads are no exception as they ponder whether to keep hold or ditch the likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.3m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m), Ben Chilwell (£6.0m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.1m).

Understandably, they open the show with a look at the various ways FPL managers can tackle the current glut of knocks and niggles.

The fixture swing away from Tottenham Hotspur and towards the two Manchester clubs and Leicester City is also considered. Could Gameweek 9 be time for an early Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) party? Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.6m) look great transfer targets. But how do FPL managers fit both in?

Aside from a brief look back at Gameweek 8’s key moments, our trio also reveal their impending transfer and captaincy plans.

Meanwhile, Seb takes his turn to pick a differential amid better fortunes – at last – for the Scoutcast’s low-owned selections.

Joe and Az also find time to quiz Seb on his role as a features designer on Football Manager. Are there similarities in strategy between this popular football simulation game and FPL?

Werner is a risk due to the amount of playing time he has had during the IB. I'm currently on DCL (c) and Grealish (vc).

As I have said before I´ve watched Spain vs Germany (2nd match of IB for him) and he definitely looked tired and slow... but maybe it was just Germany that really sucked that night...

Think it looks great but agree, city def needed as well. Personally I think Kane is still going to big player - but can understand that the money invested into ziyech / defence can cover the points difference

Captain decision is going to be huge isn't it. Likely to be a lot of variation. Some choosing hits and WCs to build new team or heal wound, others rolling transfers with different long term aims. Captain choices will rescue or expose plenty of other mistakes this week

Don't overthink it, he's a clear captain choice. West Brom might not roll over but no chance they keep Utd out for 90mins. Bruno nice and rested over ITB, plus 8pm matches have a bit more intensity about them

Depends on the Salah news on Thurs. I'm keeping Son for this GW but can see why he can be transferred out to Bruno or Rashford as a captaincy option

Would you triple up in Villa players with Watkins (Martinez and Grealish) or bring in Bamford? I've been on Watkins due to the fixtures but Bamford stats are hard to ignore.

If you believe Watkins > Bamford for the next few - and I would support that - than the mythical "triple up" should have zero impact on your decision.

I dont disagree that on paper Watkins looks to have the better fixtures but from an attacking point of view I think Bamford games are just as easy and he has much better stats.............but I dont think either are a bad choice.

I feel like this Intl. Break has sucked some momentum out of me. Got used to planning weeks ahead, having detailed transfer plans etc. But because of the insane number of injuries I've just decided to not look at it until Friday when we have pressers. There's just too much in flux right now to make any decisions.

Great option for this week to have in your team but I would find it difficult to take that risk with captaincy on him. He is on pens and great attacking threat but I feel there is always a booking or red card in him which puts me off.

I actually think KDB and defense double-up of Dias and Cancelo could be the way to go in order to take maximum advantage of the fixture run.

That way you have a great captaincy option and the added security of a nice haul even when they scrape a narrow win to zero or a 0-0 draw.

      1. Tonyawesome69
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

I would not lock in with City defence double-up. I understand City have improved in defence but with these fixtures coming up, KDB and Sterling can create some form

Held Foden since GW3 and have been rewarded with an assist and a goal from the bench so far.

I don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate you! I'm worried Werner won't play given Frank's comments before the IB.

With pulisic out I think he’ll start, possibly get subbed off but I don’t want to get rid of him especially now it looks like he has pens

Find out about Salah tomorrow mate. Pretty guaranteed to miss 1 but may be only 1

Nope, we have had no new news.

Salah, you can guess won't be out too long provided he remains symptom free.
      TAA - wait for pressers

Salah has already tested positive - twice

And, yes, it's nigh on certain that he'll miss the Leic game

Free hit team, what we thinking, GTG ?

    Martinez

    AWB Digne Zouma

    Fernandes (c) Rodriguez Ziyech Mane

    Watkins Werner Richarlison

You already pulled the free hit trigger? It looks decent but honestly can't see much benefit in this FH team over the majority of teams this weekend. FH so much better during a blank / double gw to maximise points potential

I agree with this I save mine for the blank gw, build a team up in previous weeks full of double gameweek players, free hit in the blank them im ready to bench boost in the double

      2. dhiggz97

Had salah and sterling flagged with no bench possibilities, also dont think its worth transferring out salah when hes most likely out for just one GW, tbh prob shouldve saved for blank/double gw though lol

On wildcard I’d consider a united defender. Telles or maybe AWB. I think this is the game to trigger their home form this season

    Opinions on this wildcard?

    Martinez
    Chilwell Cancelo KWP
    Mane KDB Grealish Jota
    Kane DCL Bamford

    4.0 Soucek Lamptey Bernardo

    £0.2m left

Really like this WC team. Though did you have Salah before? Id keep him over Mane even with missing a week to be honest. Soucek a very good option this week and also Lamptey, easy cover. Like keeping Kane

Had him before, but bought at 12.3, so I don't lose any value on him. Fingers crossed I can get him back soon if needed

Possibly in a couple weeks Everton fixtures toughen up and maybe DCL can be downgraded for Salah. Frustrating to be 0.1m off Salah though!

Other option is go with Mcarthy in goal, and swap KWP to targett

    Should be topical given Liverpool's injury crisis and fixture swing;

    Defender Picks which are not intentionally budget but give options for heavy Mid (KDB/Bruno etc). Also not just one week options but should provide medium term picks (in no order);

    Everton (Ful/Leeds/Bur)
    1.Coleman - 4.9 - likely to be fit
    2. Holgate - 4.8

    Palace (Bur/New/WBA)
    3.Clyne - 4.5
    4. Dann - 4.4 (less nailed but palace legend and recent strong performances raises case)

    Others:

-Cancelo (5.4)- an option after Spurs this week
-Justin (4.8)- an option after Liverpool this week
-Neco Williams (3.9)- enabler, likely to get game time

the case against others getting a lot of press time -

-Cress- Stats good but ultimately playing LCB and not amazing fixtures after Sheffield. Courfal better pick but hammers historically leaky.
-Bellerin- Arsenal out of form and Leeds/Wolv/Tottenham capable of scoring >1 goal
-Villa defenders- argument to triple up on Grealish/Martinez/Watkins

Happy to hear feedback as always

I brought in neco for trent so I could get KDB next gw without removing Kane, if he doesn’t play I’ve already got Justin on the bench

With aguero in contention for the spurs game, I’m contemplating:
    GW10: Rodriguez > KBD
    GW11: Kane > Aguero
    Thoughts?

Yep I think he will but playing out wide on the right, sterling left, then it’s between aguero n Jesus for the middle

1 Ft and 1.4 ITB.. Is Rash to Bruno too sideways, particularly given other injuries in my squad (salah, robbo, chilwell)? any help much appreciated

    Ryan Button
    Lamptey Robbo* Chilwell* Dallas Ferguson*
    Salah* Rash* Soucek Grealish Ziyech
    DCL Kane Brewster*

In reality I guess there are 2 City attacking spots between Foden Mahrez Torre Gundo Bilva. Maybe one if Kun and Jesus get playing together. More of a minefield than its ever been
