Scoutcast Episode 354 – How can FPL bosses fit in Salah, De Bruyne and Fernandes?

Joe and Az are joined by Karam to look ahead to Gameweek 11 and assess the key challenges facing Fantasy Premier League managers.

Chief among their concerns is the postponement of Friday night’s clash between Aston Villa and Newcastle United. There is a chance that it could be rearranged within the Gameweek but if not, FPL managers face some tough choices. Should they bench or swap out the likes of Villa talisman Jack Grealish (£7.7m) or Newcastle striker Callum Wilson (£6.5m)?

Our Scoutcast trio also discuss the three most talked about players of the week: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.2m), Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (£10.9m). These midfield picks are showing remarkable consistency but with hefty price tags, it may be tricky to fit them all in. Can they be ‘covered’ by the likes of Reds midfielder Diogo Jota (£6.8m) and City winger Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m)?

Pep Guardiola’s latest round of roulette is also on the bill. This chat will be of particular interest to those clinging onto City rotation risks such as Raheem Sterling (£11.4m).

Meanwhile, Joe, Az and Karam give their top tips for climbing up the rankings ahead of Christmas. Within this section, Karam takes his turn to pick a differential, which garners approval from Joe and Az.

The usual features are also covered in the show, with next four fixtures frisked, rough with the smooths aired, and transfer and captaincy plans revealed.

Does Kane Podence to Antonio/Bamford KDB (-4) still look the best bet here? Probably what I'm most keen on, despite Martinez being out and Cancelo a rotation risk. 1FT 2.6m ITB

    Martinez** (Steer**)
    Robbo Cancelo Lamptey (Coufal Mitchell)
    Bruno Son Ziyech JRodriguez Podence
    Kane* DCL (Davis**)

Likely shipping Hamez for Jota next week too, and maybe Cancelo for Chilwell. Thanks all as always 🙂

True every chance he does. But I still have Son for that game too, and there's also KDB against Fulham, and with excellent other fixtures coming up.

        Wwyd then?

Got to get KDB this week and Kane looks the easiest route.

Coufal is ok sub for Cancelo

Don’t like those moves at all, ditching Kane ahead of Arsenal and ditching Podence when he returned last week and Jimi is out.

Last week returns don't dictate this week though. Podence has Liverpool while KDB has Fulham, and more good fixtures to come. Still have Son too, while Kane been dropping deeper recently and still got some tough-ish fixtures upcoming.

Wwyd instead then? are you advocating going without a City player?

I’d just do a keeper move, no I’m not overly bothered by City unless there is an expensive/useless asset to move on.
Liverpool’s defence does not inspire me with confidence, I personally wouldn’t lose podence, but I don’t own him so easy to say that

Fair. Very hard to pick a keeper who'll consistently do well though - and I've been happy enough with Martinez set and forget, and he still has good fixtures plus 2 DGW now

Wouldn't mind Cancelo benching but I have Kilman too so both look like they are no longer starters.

Would have to go with Coufal, Chilwell and Targett. Ah, so that's only 2 defenders then.

    Martinez*
    Chilwell Cancelo Lamptey KWP
    Bruno Son Jota Bissouma

People think Antonio starts again this week, with the 45mins last week just easing him back into it?

Planning ahead is nearly impossible under normal circunstances. Under these covid 19 times alongside all the injuries do the fixture congestion, it is even harder. I still feel the need the need to plan a bit, as the transfers you make now will affekt the transfers you're able to do later. Which transfer plan do you prefer?

    A) The holy trinity (Salah, KDB, Bruno)

    GW11: Watkins + Son -> Bamford + Salah
    GW12: Save
    GW13: Kane + Stephens -> Bruno + Brewster

    B) No KDB (but Mahrez AND Kane)

    GW11: Watkins + Stephens -> Brewster + Mahrez
    GW12: KDB + DCL -> Salah + Antonio/Watkins
    GW13: Son -> Bruno

Thoughts? Actually leaning towards B. Feel like the overall team is stronger. Shift Captain between Bruno, Kane and Salah.

Kane + Wilson + Stephen’s —> Davis + Bamford + KDB (c) (and play a 3-5-2) worth -8? Imo sets the team up well for the coming weeks.

Next week can downgrade Ziyech or DCL to free up some funds to upgrade defence/bench

    Rest of team:
    Martinez
    Chillwell / KWP / Dias
    Salah / Fernandes / Ziyech / Grealish

Milner injured so there really aren't any other options at right back for the weekend

What's with the undying Bamford love? Bad fixtures and can't convert very well.

He will get some goals soon.

have you seen Leeds play? Even if his conversion is bad, he is bound to get goals due to number of chances, or even deflected assists

forget just Bamford, I'm looking at getting in Raphina to join him. Leeds are one of the most attack minded teams in the league.

      Bad fixtures?

His fixtures are some of the best.

      WHU NEW mun BUR wba

That is an outstandingly good run of games. I want Bamford or Harrison/Raphinha for this run.

Yeah I'm definitely doing DCL to him after this week. Even the MU game is exciting for attacking returns due to how both teams play.

Anyone rather Che Adams over Bamford, though? Or Jesus, even, if I were to sell Hamez over Podence?

Yep, Adams back in my team. Southampton looks good, and Ings back so he will benefit. Close call to be fair. Bamford is a good choice.

How essentially would you rate KDB for this week and going forward? Likely ditching Kane (still have Son too) to get him - but the City man only has 1G 5A so far... has he been unlucky not to get more? Should we see an uptick in form?

Not very, medium and long term I’d sooner have salah and Bruno I think

City got going against burnley but they rolled over and gave up, still not certain that they are firing

Who would you let go of to get Salah in gw12. Assuming 0.5m itb so will need to shift out two of these players to create the funds

    A: KDB
    B: Bruno
    C: Son
    D: Jota
    E: Kane

Am currently thinking Son + Kane >> Salah + Bamford in gw12. Alternatively just try to find 0.1m in def for KDB > Salah?

Hey guys. Best 4.5 defender? I actually like Taylor as he's a bit cheaper and Burnley are so stodgy.

    Other options:
Dallas - Leeds defence is still unpredictable
Bednarek - 6 point merchant, boring to own

Dallas. More attacking potential and often OOP.

Leaning that way too but only using WC gw 16 , certainly high up on the list if Burnley continue to improve defensively

Comparing Jota and Podence in comparison tool, Podence isn’t as bad an option as people think. Compare last two weeks and ignore the green bit at the top saying the key crap, actually look at the important stats
Bare in mind Jota has been on fire

Well I have no room for him and more important things, but if I owned I wouldn’t sell was my point. Watch him score vs pool

I'm about to go compare Hamez and Podence. Was thinking likely selling both in the net 2 weeks for KDB and Jota, but was gonna ship Podence first this week as he has liverpool to Hamez's burnley...

I had Podence. I still think he's quality, but sold for Jota for the price bump & better team (eye on Fulham too)

It's the consistent second-half substitutions that are the real issue with him. You can argue Jota has the same danger, but he plays for a better attacking team. Wolves never blown teams away.

Admittedly the Jimenez injury makes Podence more valuable to a wolves than before when I sold him, but I actually think that Neto is the better option.

How does the team look when I bench all the Villa players?

Taylor the correct player to bench ahead of Ayling and Bissouma? He will probably be auto-subbed when Cancelo is benched

    1FT 0.2itb
    Peacock
    Chilwell Justin Ayling Cancelo*
    Son KDB Bruno Bissouma
    DCL Vardy
    (Martinez* Taylor Grealish* Watkins* )

i think robbo should be fine, are you able to sell kane and mcginn to bruno/KDB and Bamford or striker of similar price. That would be my strategy

      1. Mr. Chimes
        • 4 Years
        3 years, 3 months ago

Yes, Kane out and Bruno in could be done. I already have Bamford so Kane would become fodder. I can only get KDB in on a -8.

Actually I can get one or the other for free. Reg could become Chilwell if I go Bruno.

Would anyone sell Hamez rather than Podence to get KDB?

Just compared them with comparison tool and the Wolves man actually comes out on top last 4 GW...

Was mainly looking at fixtures, selling Podence before LIV and giving Hamez one last shot v Burnley before selling next week, but....

      Tough one this week.

Burnley is a better fixture for James. Will have more space on the pitch to play.

Podence will be up against Neco with Allison also unlikely to feature.

If you're chucking one, I'd chuck the one you're less likely to want to keep longer term.
