Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 14?

Fantasy Premier League managers face one of the trickiest captaincy decisions of the Christmas period in Gameweek 14.

High-scoring and in-form Manchester United host Leeds United in one of the most anticipated games of the month, bringing Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) and Marcus Rashford (£9.4m) to the fore.

Also, after a draw at Crystal Palace and a last-minute defeat at Anfield, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur will have a point to prove as Leicester City come to north London.

Elsewhere, Liverpool prepare for a potentially tough-to-call trip to Crystal Palace although Roy Hodgson has played five, lost five as Eagles manager against his former club.

Thankfully for you, the Captain Sensible article is back once again to help you make the big decisions ahead of Gameweek 14.

As this uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

CAPTAIN POLL

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) tops the captain poll for Gameweek 14 ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Selhurst Park.

The Egyptian has delivered attacking returns in each of his last four Premier League matches, accumulating three goals and two assists in that time – earning him 39.3% share of the latest vote.

Fernandes’ first away blank as a Manchester United player has not eliminated him from the latest captaincy debate, 21.5% of our readers backing him for the armband when Leeds come to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites have given up an average of 1.8 goals per away game this season although the Red Devils have netted just three times at home so far.

Harry Kane (£10.9m) claims the bronze medal for the captaincy this week, earning 12.1% of the votes as Spurs prepare to host Leicester City. The talismanic forward has 14 goals and one assist in his last nine meetings with the Foxes.

A trip to Southampton for Kevin De Bruyne (£11.0m) and Manchester City is enough to ward off widespread interest in the Belgian this time around. Just 6.6% of you are willing to captain him at St. Mary’s Stadium, where the Saints have the second-best home record this season.

Despite Kane’s earning a place in the top-three for Gameweek 14, just 3.1% of the voters feel that Son Heung-min (£9.6m) is worth considering this time around.

Rashford, Callum Wilson (£6.6m), Andrew Robertson (£7.2m), Sadio Mané (£11.9m) and Ben Chilwell (£6.2m) are the only other assets with more than 1%.

Damn this article legitimately changed my mind. Alright alright... If in doubt captain Salah. I give in. Screw the Gandhi rule.

An eye for eye will leave everyone blind. That's what Gandhi said.

Camzy is saying what if we all remain blind to begin with. No eyes. Just cap Salah instead.

        Maybe that's the reference.

The Gandhi rule is - if you're unsure about your capacity for chastity, go to bed with a couple of young virgins.

Think I'm kidding? Look it up.

To be fair, may not help you choose Salah for captain. Just sayin'.

Yeah but I think Bielsa is capable of magic. He knows how big the occasion is, Leeds have an extra day of rest, and he might just do something insane like play Shackleton and double mark Bruno out of the game.

        I don't trust it somehow.

Away from home they conceded 4 against Pool and 3 against Chelsea. Bielsa isn’t the type to sit back. They’ll go for Utd and it will be high scoring

Also, I'm big into rest. Leeds have had an extra day of rest. Leeds especially having an extra days' rest is scary to play against. It's a quick turnaround for United and most of those guys who played midweek will play again.

Speaking of rest, Salah played Wednesday night, has then just 2days rest, maybe some training and a trip to London, then an early kick-off. Love Salah but something about the timing and away form is just putting me off. Yes palace are going to concede, but no it won't be 4 or 5. Still salah has a good chance to be involved. I like Bruno and Kane. Kane is getting an extra days rest and will play at home, in this busy week I feel that makes a difference. Salah may come off early whereas Kane is nailed for 90 no matter what

Kdb. Couple of days rest. Nailed. And city can put on a couple fully rested players if they want like a Mahrez, torres or Silva.

Do I need to step away from the laptop if I'm considering a Burnley defensive double-up?

Building for BB for GW 19 and Lamptey was going to be shipped soon anyway before this latest knock.

Issue is, up to 5.8 defenders I don't see too many I like and it's between Mee/Tarko or Maguire.

Because Pogba is being mentioned in terms of both his impact on Bruno and even as a standalone asset, I think it’s worth saying it’s quite possible he could be benched this weekend. I can definitely see a moreconservative midfield given the threat that Leeds pose.

1ft, wc in pocket. Mahrez out not a good idea after benching is my thought but Grealish against Wba is bit scary. At the same time my defence looks awful for this gw.

    A) Mahrez to Grealish (Wba)
    B) Mitchell to Targett (Wba, bench two of Dier, Justin and Coufal)

    Chilwell Dier Justin Coufal Mitchell

Not sure about (c) Salah. Last time CP conceded more than 2 goals at home was on 07/07/2020 vs Chelsea. Also, last time Pool scored more than 2 goals there was in 2016. Pool away form ain't great too.

I'm not also sure about Bruno, ManUtd has rather bad form at home recently.Only 1 goal in last 4 home games.

    May bet on Son (c)?

Lamptey a doubt, was going to get Coufal in a week or two since Chelsea now.
One option is to go 442 with Robertson but that would make future upgrade from Grealish to Son tougher, might have to lose KDB if I wanna get Son (which was the plan before GW16).
    A) Keep Lamptey, Soucek 1st on bench. Save and 2ft next week
    B) Robertson, dont miss out on that good run of fixtures

Exact money for PVA, DCL to Taylor, Kane for -4. Worth it?

Don't like losing DCL, but surely the latter combo is better long term and for BB 19?
