-4 GW18 team, if my one my City defenders doesn't play and Villa game gets cancelled I'll be down to 7 but probably enough:

    Martinez
    Cancelo Walker Holding
    KdB(C) Bruno Son Grealish
    Lacazette DCL Brewster
    (Forster Robertson Soucek Dallas)
    0.8

I was locked in on free hit, but just toying with the idea of going with this.

    Robertson & Salah - > Cancelo & KDB (-4). This would field:

    Cancelo Lowton
    KDB Bruno Son
    Kane Watkins

Next week: Son & Kane -> Salah & Vardy (-4).

Could I get away without free hitting or is it too light? (Obviously depends on *that* game going ahead)

I'm in a similar position, I have 8/9 players with 3 UTD, 3 City and 2 spurs players. If I want more players I need to take out DGW players to bring in Arsenal players which doesn't seem like a great idea .... especially considering I'll be bringing in players I haven't fancied all season .... so I'll go with my solid 8/9 and see how I get on (happy to see my 3 City players come off at half time today)

I don't see Pep returning to that system after how City played in last few games with KDB and Sterling playing furthest forward. I think he'll stick to Foden/KDB/Sterling for next few games ...

    Darlow
    Cancelo Tierney Stones
    Son Rash Bruno KDB
    Wilson Laca Cavani
    (4.0, Smithrowe, Kilman, Mitchell)

Not too sure on double Newcastle and Cavani atm. Spurs postponement would make things a lot easier tbh. Any thoughts welcome and a little discussion 🙂 cheers

Games are still at risk of being cancelled, and all will be at risk in the short term with how high the infection rate is right now.

If you're going to activate the FH Chip, wait to do so on Tuesday afternoon if you can.

All good to plan whatever you like up to that point, but there's no point activating it as budget is hardly going to be a big issue. The government could announce tomorrow that there'll be a circuit break, or another team could get an outbreak.

Honestly just hold on and gain as much info as you can. Anyone who's activated the chip early is a bigger fool right now than ever.

More rumours for stricter lockdown rules including 4 week break to ejeet sport due to Medical staff/ at John’s ambulance etc etc to be used for vaccine rollout and still 100 odd people attending games, media, security, press, ground staff etc etc ☹️

Lots of rumours. Let's just wait to hear how the news filters out in the next day or so.

Give yourself as much as an advantage as possible by being as flexible as possible (i.e. Don't go activating chips until late-on unless it's absolutely urgent - which it isn't.)

Really hope the spurs game is on. Loads of value tied up in kane and will transfer him out for 19 but I don't see any good striker options for 18 other than single gameweek 19 players who i don't want to waste a transfer on. Or should I punt on martial ?

There’s only about 6 players left playing in GW18, FH looking sketchy now

I am but that's because I'm planning to FH19. All subject to Villa Spurs going ahead.

Still dont know is it worth to take -8 hit to get KdB and get rid of Balbuena for BB

I'd have no issue with a hit during the DGW if you're going to BB... KDB also a possible captaincy option.

Any weight in Mourinho saying he expects game to go ahead or is this the usual Jose bit where he sets himself up to go off on one if its postponed?

KDB for me. The MCI kids are clicking with KDB unleashed

Kane and Co could win 10-0 vs the AV child soldiers but I think they would stop the massacre at 3-0 so not to spark outrage and show respect for AVs situation. I rather stay away from this situation with a captain.

SPEARMINT’S MINTY FREE HIT GUIDE: GAMEWEEK 18 - My first FPL "article" in a while!

What’s up guys, my first article in a long while. I’ll be going through my top blank gameweek picks based on my studies of the stats and the eye test.

    Keepers:

    Karl “Pilkington” Darlow (5m)

A shoe in vs the goal shy and generally poor SHU team. My only apprehension is the lack of save points against such a shoddy SHU attack.

    Jay Leno (4.9m)

Less likely of a cleanie in my humble opinion vs a decent CPL attack. Better for saves, in a better defence though.

    Rammy Ramsdale (4.7m)

Rammy gains the advantage of being able to own the insurance of big Mikey Verrips (4m) as your backup. Again, against a side who are fairly impotent up top.

    The D:

    Cancelo Culture (5.6m)

Pricey, extravagant, and hopefully not at the mercy of Pep’s Wheel after his 45 min rest this weekend. By far one of the best attacking options at the back and a part of the D most likely to get a shut out this GWK.

    Johnny Stones (5.0m)
Cheap as chips and fresh off a goal against United midweek, inferior to CC but not a bad option whatsoever against a pretty dire Brighton attack who need to find another striker in the January window. Dias too pricey for my likely but the better option if you have a 800k in your back pocket.

    Kieran “The Taste” Tierney (5.4m)

Alongside CC, the best of the defenders this week for potential attacking output. A decent fixture against CPL in London. Has a great deal of threat and arguably ousts a second MCI DEF with this.

    Shawshank Redemption (4.8m)
On corners for United with surprisingly good attacking underliers in the month gone by. Not a bad option.

Harry Maguire (5.4m) – Already memed too much to allow for a nickname.

Top of the threat charts for a reason but can’t seem to hit the target. Better than sure IMO for the added points and bonus that come with a DEF goal if you have spare cash. Not as good as Tierney or an extra MCI DEF.

    DeAndre “Pace” Yedlin (4.3m)

The best budget pick at the back this week. Playing as a wingback against the worst side in the league though don’t expect the world; it’s a NEW defender I’m suggesting here – give me a break fellas. Watch out for Lewis injury news. If Lewis is back then go for Clark (4.5m) or Schar (4.9m) if you’re feeling spicey.

    The Batman’s Holding The Bowler’s… (4.5m)

Rob Holding BTW. A safer if less exciting alternative to DeAndre. Likely won’t be on for any returns at the opposite end of the pitch.

That Mitchell and Money in the Bank Look (3.9m)

This man is for your shamefully low budget bench you penny pinching FPL scumbags out there. Have another better pick in reserve in front of him as it’s unlikely he’s getting anything this weekend but some points for just turning up but more importantly gives you the extra funds for a big man at the back.

    Middle of the park:

    Kevin (11.6m)
You didn’t read this far for me to give you a tip about the best midfielder in the world being a good pick did you? I will say no more. He is very good at football, he is playing against Brighton.

    Bruno (11.3m)

Looks like he needs a 3 week spa break but will be chomping at the bit and fresher after the defeat to City in the League Cup and then rest in the FA Cup. Avoid at your peril.

    Marcus “The Saviour” Rashford (9.6)

A great man but is he great this week in your teams? The answer: most likely. Burnley look poor, he looks sharp and again has had a little rest.

    Tiki Saka (5.3m)

Potentially a little bit of a trap with the surprise ARS resurgence but cheap enough to avoid any embarrassment over the pick. Decent stats and value too if ARS keep it up. Pref a premium defender and switch in formation but he’s here as an enabler.

    Ilkay “The Snapper” Gundogan (5.4m)

A shrewd pick. Topping Sterling’s and KDB’s recent big chances and in a purple patch. Will he play? Where will he play? Only Pep knows. Not a bad enabler and better than Saka if you’re opting for KDB and only one other MCI asset besides the German box-to-box man. Fine but don't be surprised at a large 2 staring you in the face when you excitedly click your points tab.

    Aubameblank (11.3m)

He’s on the list but at the bottom. Should you pick him? Probably not given the value and form of about 700 other players in the league but he’s here. Do you like a shot in the dark, a gamble, a longshot over a sure fire? He’s your man.

    James “The Fringe” Rodriguez (7.7m)

Very interesting pick at the 7-8m range. As a watcher of many Prem games I can tell you Wolves have looked and played awfully. Will be ready to play and always passes the eye test.

    Up Top:

    Cilson (6.5m)
Outrageously Cilson is top of the list. Penalties, value and fixture swing it. My tip would be to play him as a two or even solo and go for the heavenly five man premiums in your Mids.

    DC to the L (7.8m)

A true poacher and goalscorer this season. DCL has James back against a pitiful Wolves team. The match could go either way so I will not be tipping a double up but his service should be good.

    Tony M (8.7m)

As a one weeker, maybe the best pick up top… arguably. That’s if he can shrug off that trademark Tony M mood and get back in the icey cold veins vibe, scoring streak.

    Lacasweat (8.3m)

He’s in the zone but pricey and security of starts coupled with ARS’s dodgy early season form worry me. Definitely wouldn’t captain but an okay choice for his price range.

    Benchman Brewster (4.5m)

Here’s your prime bench fodder for this week if you’re playing one or two up top (my recommendation for an optimal formation this week). Again like Mitch I would have someone else proceeding him though – a Holding/Gundo type ranged player. Go for (4.3m) Davis if you need the funds though.

    GENERAL TIPS:

You’ll notice a distinct lack of Spurs lads here. That’s because it seems very likely their match will be called off tomorrow (or today if you’re reading this then). If it’s not then Harry "Yeah, Obviously" Kane and Superman Son will be the top of my tips this week. Captaincy wise I’d go the following, fixtures allowing:

    TOT attacker
MCI attacker (i.e. KDB as Raheem the Dream is rumoured to be out)
    MUN attacker

Everton's attack is juicy with James and DCL. Wolves look terrible. Toss of a coin due to both clubs being similarly levelled on paper though. Fine if you fancy it.

With general odds and statistics there's a lot higher chance that a cheaper defender should keep a cleanie against a subpar side than for Saiss to score. I'd put him at no. 4 for attacking potential at the back this week anyway tbh with your Trophe.

Thanks for the green mods and all your work.

      * UPDATES (as of 11/01/2021 0518 MDT) *

      Karl “Pilkington” Darlow (5m)

*A few of you pointed out Dubravka could reclaim his place, I don't see it personally with Karly Pilkoids Darlow being one of NEW's best performers this season, a fan favourite and in months gone by he had the best keeping stats in the league. Go for Jay Leno below if you're a worrier.

      *Shawshank Redemption (4.8m)

Avoid now due to new injury update. Pick H-Mags over AWB, more thread, AWB more defensive. Telles tasty too.

      *The Roman (5.1m)

Added to replace the Shawshank Redemption in the list but by no means a priority. The Roman should be a decent option but as I've mentioned in other areas, Wolves look sub par and Everton's attack will be revitalised. Coin flip but good attacking threat.

*Price corrections: Kevin (11.7m) & Cancelo Culture (5.8m)

I generally wait till the deadline to make transfers. I said to myself let's do this today morning what could possibly go wrong so I could avoid price drops/rises. Brought Shaw without FH as Telles played in the cup. Boom injured. Never early transferring again

Tempted, although I transfered out Son and while I was happy with it before when looking at his fixtures, knowing Spurs will have a few DGWs (especially if the Villa game is off) I'm kind of regretting it especially because of the value I have built up in him and knowing I won't be able to get him back really. If I FH it means I'll have him back, but my initial thought was to just try wing it with my 6/7 (that'd be after a Spurs cancellation) and save the FH for a week where I imagine there'd be more points available and more choice, and seeing there are a few here that seem like they might just do that too means maybe I'm best too doing that

What’s the status of the Leeds vs Southampton game? Seems like everyone forgot about it as another fixture aside from Villa/Spurs at the risk of being moved.
