The expected fixtures and postponements for FPL Blank Gameweek 29

The FA Cup fifth round came to a conclusion on Thursday evening, with Southampton and Chelsea progressing to the last eight of the competition.

The quarter-finals of the FA Cup are set to be staged on the same weekend as Gameweek 29 and there are seven Premier League matches that will be affected by the cup ties.

All of them are expected to be postponed given that an international break follows immediately after the weekend in question.

The fixtures are:

  • Burnley v Leicester City
  • Crystal Palace v Manchester United
  • Liverpool v Chelsea
  • Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • Sheffield United v Aston Villa
  • Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton
  • West Bromwich Albion v Everton

That leaves just three top-flight games unaffected by the results of this week’s FA Cup ties.

Barring inclement weather or a COVID outbreak, these matches will go ahead as planned in Gameweek 29:

  • Brighton and Hove Albion v Newcastle United
  • Fulham v Leeds United
  • West Ham United v Arsenal

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

(Click above to expand image)

New dates are awaited for the Gameweek 29 fixtures that are set to be postponed, with four other outstanding matches (Aston Villa v Spurs from Gameweek 18, Aston Villa v Everton from Gameweek 19, Manchester City v Southampton from Gameweek 33 and Fulham v Spurs from Gameweek 33) also still yet to be rearranged.

An announcement from the Premier League could come very soon, given that Gameweek 26 – and its free midweek – is expected to absorb a large chunk of these 11 games currently in the ether.

Aston Villa v Spurs may, in theory, move to Blank Gameweek 29 to increase the number of Premier League fixtures that weekend to four.

Both clubs have been eliminated from the FA Cup and their scheduled Premier League games on the weekend of March 20/21 look set to be postponed.

EARLY THOUGHTS ON BLANK GAMEWEEK 29

Bamford and Raphinha star in audition for Double Gameweek 25 3

Should all of the above pan out as expected – and we are still yet to hear confirmation from the Premier League – then there will be a very small pool of players to choose from in Blank Gameweek 29 whether using the Free Hit chip or otherwise.

Fulham and Leeds have Double Gameweeks before then (the Cottagers in Gameweek 24, the Whites in Gameweek 25), so anyone stocking up on the likes of Patrick Bamford (£6.7m), Raphinha (£5.3m), Stuart Dallas (£4.8m), Alphonse Areola (£4.5m) and Ademola Lookman (£5.0m) will already have a head start in preparing for Gameweek 29.

As will those who own Tomas Soucek (£5.4m), Michail Antonio (£6.7m) et al, although the flip side of being well set for Gameweek 29 without using a Free Hit chip is that it will impact on the ability to maximise returns from the expected Double Gameweek 26, when the likes of West Ham and Leeds will only have one fixture.

Should Aston Villa v Spurs get moved to Blank Gameweek 29, however, then that could significantly aid preparations on both fronts.

Stupid question but which teams have a DGW in 26? Can’t seem to find them.

From Feb 10 to Feb 28 Tottenham will have played 5 games in 18 days.I think the most possible game that we could see rotation from Jose is vs Burnley(gw26).Tottenham's only target for this season is Europa League and ManCity(gw24) and WHam(gw25) are more difficult games than Burnley at home. Also Tottenham has the Southampton game that could be rescheduled on March 2/3.With so many games though for Spurs i think it's more logic that it will be rescheduled for gw27 on March 9/10.Any thoughts or ideas?

Spurs have Europa League midweek of GW27 and 28 unless they lose to Wolfsberg (211th best team in the world).

This. Also regarding rotation, you talk about fixture congestion but the last 2 months or so have been continuously 2 games per week, thats probably a good indication of how much rotation we should expect to see. (i.e. for Spurs, very little)

Yeah all possible and we can only make educated guess at this point. Detail plans that we attempt will have caveats such as things you mentioned. Applies to all FPL managers though so that is there the uncertainty (or labelled as 'luck') factor of the game. On top of that potential injuries.

Spurs will have three fixtures to make up, and the obvious slots are GWs 26, 29 and 32. GW37 is also a possibility, but why leave it that late?

Cavani has alternated starts / sub appearances since gw18. Is he a viable punt to replace DCL for the next 2 - would ideally like a nailed starter.
if true to form then he is benched this week then starts next week.....

I think he's pretty nailed now, may get a few rests here and there but imo he's been first choice for the past few weeks, rested in the cup and will get plenty of gametime

If you are planning to have a player in your squad for 2 weeks, I don't think it's a good idea to bring him. I will only do it if you have absolutely nothing else to do. But given upcoming DGWs and a BGW, I doubt you have absolutely nothing else to do.

hmm depends when you plan to wc
areola plays in 29 so decent pay back. Mee is a play in gw25 as well. Depends if you want Watkins longer term

How much do you expect to get from the bench? Even if you get 20, that is effectively just 12, after taking 2 hits. I wouldn't do it for -8.

  11. HMC

    Areola
    Dias Stones AWB Coufal
Sterling c Bruno vc Salah Soucek
    DCL Antonio
    Martinez Grealish Mitchell Rodrigo

2ft 2m itb (only WC + TC left)

    a) DCL to Cavani and roll transfer
    b) do A + Rodrigo to Bamford
    c) Bamford not needed with Grealish / Mitchell on the bench
    d) any other moves you can advise

Likely to do Coufal to Dallas next week and bring in Bamford anyway. Possibly Soucek to Harrison as well

Plan would be to not wildcard until 30, and switch Sterling to Kane possibly via Gundogan

    Current team:
    Sanchez Mccarthy
    Coufal Cancelo Stones Robbo Chilwell
    Bruno Salah Gundo Son Bissouma
    Watkins DCL Antonio

GW24: Chilwell + DCL to Dallas + Adams
    GW25: Bissouma to Raphinha
GW26: Robbo + Antonio to Kane + Konsa

    GW 26 team:
    Mccarthy
    Cancelo Stones Konsa (Coufal Dallas)
    Bruno Salah Gundo Son (Raph)
    Watkins Kane Adams

    This gives me 3 DGW24, 4 DGW25, 11 DGW26, maybe 2 DGW27 (Soton) and 8 BGW29 players with 3 FTs from GW 26-29.

Thoughts on this plan? Will wildard in GW 30.

So if AVL/tot gets moved to GW29, I reckon we can navigate the GW29 blank without needed to FH.

WC in 25 would likely include 7-9 from LEE, AVL & TOT anyway, so just need to use FTs to get 10/11 in 29.

Not sure the other fixtures are that great for the other teams playing in 29:

        WHU/ars - fairly even
        BHA/new - maybe a BHA defender enabler

What’s everyone thinking with all chips left?

        A) FH29
        B) navigate with FTs

That’s impressive. I think I need to WC in 25 as currently only have 1 LEE and 0 TOT.

seems like a good strategy. for those without BB (even though overrated), holding the wc til gw30 allows for cheaper bench and more spent into starters

When are you planning to use them? Still think FH has benefits for 29. It means you don't need to get too tied to spurs / leeds / villa and can attack the fixtures better in 27 & 28 without worrying about bringing 29 players in.

Having said that, villa and spurs fixtures for 26, 27 and 28 seem too good to ignore so it's somewhat of a no brainer I guess

Yeah that’s my thinking if I WC25. Would likely have Martinez/Targett/Watkins/Son/Kane/Dallas/Raph/Bamford come 26 so that’s 8 already for 29 and then 3FTs to bring in 1/2 more

Those with villa, city, spurs and Leeds assets with WC in hand already are probably best off right now. Could navigate through to 29 and then WC 30 to attack the fixture swing

Looks like I've come full circle to your approach Holmes 😀

alas for me I have no villa or spurs so WC25 or 26 is on the cards I think

        Pope (Walton)
        Cancelo Justin** Stones (Alioski**, Douglas**)
        Grealish Salah Fernandes Son Gundogan
        Bamford Antonio** DCL**

        1.5 ITB, 1FT

Looking a bit of a shambles now....What's the priority transfer here? (Brought in Justin at 4.5 so I might hold onto him 'til he's back)

        a) Douglas > Dallas
        b) Douglas > Konsa/Mings
        c) Douglas > Shaw
        c) DCL > Ings
        d) Something else?

I think there is a very strong case for TC Grealish in DGW26 over the likes of Spurs or City players.

Firstly fixtures, Villa arguably have the pick of the bunch with Leeds away and Sheffield United away, both having fairly poor defensive numbers.

Secondly, low risk, Villa arent in Europe so don't have nearly as much fixture congestion as the Spurs or City guys and Grealish will certainly not be rotated. Meanwhile with Kane only recently recovering from an injury (and same with KDB if he returns) rotation is possible. European fixtures only add to this problem.

        Thoughts on these transfers:
        Martinez steer
        Dallas dier coufal Mitchell cancelo
        Son Bruno sterling gundo Maddy
        Bam Antonio DCL
        2FTs
        Gw24: Mitchell to lowton
        Gw25: sterling to salah
Gw26: steer to ederson, coufal to Justin, antonio to Watkins-4
        Using BB in gw26

        Best route here?

        A) Early WC
        - 24: Mitchell -> Mee (DCL -> Rich if out)
        - 25: WC25
        - 26: BB/TC

        B) Delay WC until post 29
        - 24: Save FT
        - 25: Martinelli -> Raphina
        - 26: Bellerin, Sterling & DCL -> Stones, Son & Kane (-4)

        POPE
        CANCEO, Coufal, Bellerin
        STERLING, GUNDO, Salah, Bruno
        DCL, Bamford, Watkins

        Forster, Targett, Martinelli, Mitchell
        Bank 2.3m, 1FT, all chips

Thinking of just ignoring the Burnley defenders and ManC midfielders and get Lookman and play him instead of Antonio (this will give me two free transfers next gw). Stupid or acceptable strategy?

        Burke -> Lookman

        Martínez
        Cancelo, Digne, Alonso
        Son, Salah, Fernandes, Grealish
        Antonio, Bamford, Ings

        Button, Burke, Coufal, Lowton
2 free transfer, 1.0 million in the bank
