Win a share of €250,000 in FanTeam’s new Champions League Fantasy game

Sponsored by FanTeam

The UEFA Champions League returns after its winter break and with it comes yet another chance of winning a life-changing sum of money, thanks to FanTeam.

Fantasy managers can put their European football knowledge to the test in the €250K Champions League Knockout Rounds game, which comes with a first prize of €25,000.

This is a completely new tournament that does not require involvement in the previous group stage game – so sign up now and get your teams in before the deadline on Tuesday.

As the name of the game suggests, there is a total of €250,000 (or £225,000, in English money) in the kitty, with the top 2,513 managers walking away with cash prizes.

With a maximum of 15,000 entries permitted and, at the time of writing, only around 900 teams currently entered, the odds are very favourable for those who know their Liverpools from their Leipzigs.

Entries cost just €25 (or £22.50), a sum that many of us will have readily forked out in our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues in the past.

Up to 50 teams per user are allowed, too.

Even better: the scoring system is very similar to FPL, so skills are easily transferred from one game to the other.

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

Slightly different from the group stage game, FanTeam managers are given a budget of €90m to build a team of 11 players that includes at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward.

There is no bench or manual substitutes; instead, there is a ‘Safety Net’ feature. If a player in your Fantasy team isn’t in the starting XI for their side, they will automatically be substituted for the next priced player from the same position and club.

Captains score double points, as usual, while there are no price changes to worry about!

For a more detailed rundown of the rules, including transfer allowances, chips and quotas of players from the same club, click on the below image to expand:

SCORING SYSTEM

Seasoned FPL managers, or those playing FanTeam’s €1m season-long Premier League game, should have no problem in adjusting to the €250K Champions League Knockout Rounds game.

The familiar scoring system is shown above, with the minor differences outlined below.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.

People confident in Bamford? Playing against Wolves and Southampton, doesn't scream goals to me.

Both? Last 3 for Wolves : Beat Arsenal, drew against Leicester, and won against Southampton. That's far from rubbish in my book.

How many of you have all the chips left but still undecided on what to do when? Have 2FTs now to have Bam, Ings and Dallas in the team. A hit for Raphinha and I think I will have the main players. Bench not strong enough to BB25 and WC26. Also, don't find it too attractive to WC now and BB26 as well, as I will have dgwers in 25 still left and could be in trouble if some others get injured or suspended. Is WC25 and BB26 still the best use of the chips?

I hope to find many more me(s) and hear what they think. I think WC25 loses value by gw26 if you have to take hits to get dgw players or play BB using sgw players. I won't be changing too many of my premium assets anyway (probably just a debate about whether to lose Salah, Bruno or Son to get Kane in). What is your current thinking?

Looking at WC teams, not far off what I have so off the WC+BB plan now though it is what I was intending.
BB in anything but a double seems a waste and was not keen on the whole get rid of BB to make things easier argument, but having said that, in hindsight, probably could have BBed in any of the last few weeks and been happy with the points.
As to what I will do. No idea to be honest.
          Dead end into 29.
          WC in 30.
          FH in 33 maybe

If you don't need to WC you can hold and still BB in gw26.

I want everyone to BB because it's becoming a bit of a recurring theme but each to their own.

It seems many are looking for the wisdom of the crowd to Bench Boost.

Just hit it when your guys are fit and playing.

The truth is the last 5 weeks were optimal to BB but there's a collective desire on here to hold BB for 15 doubles and focus the transfers around it. All without taking hits if possible.

  13. Atimis

Thoughts on the teams below? Would be without WC and with 1/2 hits.

    For 25:
    Martinez
    Cancelo/Stones/Tarko/Dallas
    Bruno/Salah/Grealish/Gundo
    Bamford/Ings

    Martin/DCL/Coufal/Stephens

    For 26, could use TC:
    Martinez
    Cancelo/Stones/Tarko
    Bruno/Salah/Grealish/Barnes/Gundo
    Kane/DCL

    Martin/Bamford/Dallas/Coufal

Help greatly appreciated chaps and apologies for the long post! How do the below WC25 and BB26 Teams look?

    25:
    Areola (Martinez)
    Struijk*, Shaw, Dias (Stones, Konsa)
    Raphinha*, Salah, Fernandes, Gundogan (Son)
    Ings*, Bamford*, Kane

    26 (Ings & Raphinha -> DCL & Barnes (-4)
    Martinez*, Areola
    Stones*, Dias*, Konsa*, Shaw*, Struijk
    Salah*, Gundogan*, Fernandes*, Son*, Barnes*
    Kane*, DCL*, Bamford

Assumes no Southampton DGW in 26. Some cheaper options like Struijk/Konsa over Dallas/Targett that allows me to keep hold of Salah into GW27 (FUL). Carries 2 Leeds into BGW29 too.

    Cheers

Cheers. Not fully decided on GK yet. McCarthy would have CHE, lee, eve (I think) and Areola SHU, cry, TOT - think i prefer the latter.

Going Tarko and Mee as Burnley defenders is just something you would expect from Fpl

Good DGW against teams that have been struggling to score, and both quite weak aerially. It kinda made sense, especially as many plan to play WCs soo after.

Nobody expected Lionel Lowton tearing up the wings, unless they had read the Differential Article... and even then, he hadn't scored a goal in 8 years!

Who looks better for 26, assuming all teams involved have the expected doubles:

    A: Bruno & Watkins

    B. Kane & Maddison -4

    Cheers

    I've decided I want a Brighton defender.

Good GW25 fixture. Good fixture in GW26 even though it isn't a double to BB. Good game in 29 with NEW.

    Who is the best one?

    A) White (4.4m)
    B) Veltman (4.3m)
    C) Burn (4.2m)

When I've watched brighton lately (especially liverpool game) Burn seems to be really attacking - admittedly with little end product.

        Martinez schmeichel
        Cancelo stones kabak targett strujik
        Salah Fernandes gundo Barnes raphinha
        Kane DCL(bam in 25) Watkins

They still might have a double, but he has a post saying brown and yellow were almost sure and should be followed incase fixtures aren't announced before 25 deadline.

Did Dyche indicate if Mee would be out next weekend or just midweek?

Glad he's ok, but getting him over lowton has proved really costly.

Yeah, from this, sorry. I wouldn't change much of the first team, especially this week so it'd effectively be a WC to only change my bench, doesn't seem worth it.

If they were the same price, Ings but £2m difference in price is significant.

Would like Ings but as I already have Watkins/DCL and want to bring in Kane then its not really an option for me (would also be for a hit)

Wasn't expecting Burnley to clean this fixture anyways but it is more annoying now that Mee is out as a CS would actually gain me points unlike last fixture's 103% EO.

Yesterday was so so uninspiring to me, I owned just Bruno and Bamford for an entire set of fixtures. Happy at the end, could've been much worse if Bruno hauled.

BB Martinez(LEI), Grealish(LEI), DCL (liv) and Coufal (TOT)?

I would put this starting backine: Stones, Cancelo, Dallas, Lowton, Pope.

I guess the sensible answer is no, fixtures are not good enough, but with Martinez form, DCL going against nonexistent Liverpool centrebacks, Grealish is good player you want to play anyway, and Coufal could potentially nick an assist, it's not that crazy.
